So, first, a word of warning, what follows is a deeply subjective and opinionated set of impressions, so take it as such. With that being said, this is what I think: Forbidden West took is in almost every way a failed sequel, the only exception being graphics. It takes all negative elements of the first game and exacerbated them. Let's start with the characters: The borderline infallible main character and over the top genius gene 'mother' from the last game (where these properties where present but far less visible and served the context of the story) went to insufferable Mary Sue who never does anything wrong and is always right, and godlike savior who likewise is without fail or problem, the male friend who was struggling to grow into a leadership role became the drunk fool and comic relief and the machiavellian business genius became the incarnation of narcissistic evil, in the end reduced to monsterous egomania. To paraphrase Tolkien, they took characters and made them into (Arche)types, which makes them shallow and pure story devices, if not outright superfluous. Consequently, a believable system of interactions between them doesn't develop, and so they stay pure window dressing. I never developed any interest in them. The story itself doesn't measure up to the predecessor either. Instead of a continuation in which the topics of the first game are deepened and Aloy continues to 'grow up' into the leadership role fate placed her into or any one of the manifold opportunities the first game set up, we get a shallow 'evil self-indulgend rich people try to ruin the world and hero has to stop them' Marvel-esque sunday morning comic that in no way measures up to the scale, sense of mystery or depth of the first game, leaves hardly any room for the players own imagination and is drawn to unnecessary and tedious length. Opportunities to humble the main character, and in that way let the player take part in her struggles emotionally, are not taken. These flaws in character writing is the first and by far biggest issue I have with this game. With respect to the world itself, there is little reason to explore it other than for grinding resources, and it holds little inspiration and does not spark a thirst for adventure at all for me, in stark contrast to the first game. The combat system became in my opinion unnecessarily complex, enemies rely heavily on, often chained, stagger attacks, animations for reloading, getting up or healing cannot be skipped and result in being hit, and it forces you into melee situations in boss fights while at the same time giving you the option to spec completely away from melee. What I liked about it is the graphics improvements, which make it into an absolutely stunning visual experience, and how fluidly most of the movements of Aloy can be chained together outside combat, but that's about it. All in all, I must say that Forbidden West has become a big disappointment for me, and I only completed it in the end to finally be done with it.
The world is absolutely stunning, with incredible environments that make exploring fun from start to finish. Combat is the highlight of the game—every machine feels unique, and taking them down requires planning, the right weapons, and smart use of their weak points. Even after dozens of hours, fights stayed exciting. The story kept me invested, and the side quests were much better than I expected. They often had interesting characters and felt worth completing instead of just being filler. Progression is rewarding, with plenty of weapons, outfits, and upgrades that let you tailor your playstyle. My only minor complaints are that inventory management can become a bit tedious, and a few menus and map controls on PC could be smoother. Those are small issues compared to everything the game does well.
Ok
I've completed and gotten every achievement on both Horizon games twice (once on PS4 and now on PC) I absolutely adore this franchise. as soon as I indulged myself in the Horizon franchise I fell in love, not just because of the graphics and storytelling (which are both amazing in my opinion), but also some of the character's you're introduced to through the story. I'm quite happy with how this sequel game goes as far as the story and gameplay aspects, my only "grudges" are some of the puzzles for collectibles and side missions. I like how the harder difficulties change more than just enemy health and damage, the challenge was nice. I took 107 total screenshots during my playthrough of the main campaign and the DLC due to just how pretty this game is, I highly recommend this game and its predecessor to anyone willing to give them a try.
es un jodido juegazo
10 sur 10
Good game
Horizon foi ofuscado por dois lançamentos: Zero Dawn pelo lançamento do Zelda: Breath of The Wild e Forbidden West por Elden Ring. Se não fosse essa azar teria sido bem mais aclamado.
