One of my favourite games of all time!

The premise of ZD and FW are great but damn I forgot how bad the gameplay is. Sat too long in library hell for a refund :/
You cannot turn off aim assist in settings.
Only on Very Hard difficulty do you eliminate aim assist in the game without modifying files. Very Hard difficulty has the most egregious outgoing vs incoming damage I've seen in a single player game in a very long time, even in late game. Changing the game files to kill aim assist results in a ghost arrow phenomena for some reason, like certain hitboxes are only available during certain timings of machine animations and rely in part on the ingrained aim assist. Attempting a melee build is futile as there is no parry/block mechanic and 75% of the weapons are some sort of bow.
The game runs fine, the written dialogue and side quests are marginally better than the first game, the world has more diverse biomes and machines. The base gameplay loop is worse
The keyframing of machine animations coupled with the bullet time mechanic results in a lot of jank whether or not you have aim assist. On normal/hard difficulty with the ingrained aim assist you will have shots that would clearly hit weak points veer off unnaturally at the end of their flight into adjacent armor. The main story isn't as good as the first but the first game had the novelty of a new canon to work with and the bread crumbs of discovery were much more rewarding in that regard. Non story spoiler: you don't get a flying mount until the second to last story mission which is the only reason I'd do a NG+. I did a full NG+ of the first game. Story sets up a 3rd game, another release is planned but will not likely come to PC, because of that you shouldn't pay full price.
Could have been better than the first, but isn't. 6.8/10
