Scorn is a very interesting game. To put it bluntly, I'm not entirely sure if I recommend it. As a walking sim, visual/psych horror experience it's pretty good! As a video game, it falls short of being something I actually recommend. Scorn is a very visuals first game. The style it goes for is very remnant of H.R. Giger's work. It does an excellent job adapting that style and utilizing it throughout the game. The world feels so alien, abandoned, grotesque. When the steam tags have "gore" as the top result, they aren't kidding. Much of the game is shrouded in decay, viscera, and sickening rot. I found myself often thinking of who built this place, why they built it, and whether or not it was all worth it. The environments had strange purposes, not always clear. It wasn't until the endgame area that the purpose of the building became apparent. I thoroughly enjoyed this theme and the questions it arose. Though, beyond a certain point, I stopped asking questions and just watched. Because that's all I really could do. As an art piece, watching was all that was left. As a game, Scorn just didn't interest me. This is a common consensus from players. What little expansive gameplay exists here isn't entirely deep. The combat is often just okay, if not annoying. Traversal can be a bit boring as much of the game pathways have a similar feel. Some items can be missed simply because they look a lot like background assets. Or you just didn't think to check every wall of a room that appeared pretty empty before. The puzzles weren't hard, some were alright, none were super fun though. At best they were neat exercises, at worst they were a waste of time. Towards the end, a couple puzzles make use of cutting a growth off your hand so you can use items. But if you heal, one of your hands magically becomes free of growth so you can do that? It makes sense as a game mechanic to prevent softlocking, but at that point why even have cutting your hand take health away? It's a short section, just make the player invulnerable and you're fine. It seems at times, the game wasn't even thought about as a game by the dev team. That is where I think this game's weaknesses are highlighted. I had one very unfortunate bug at the end. During the final stretch of the game after achievement 010, My audio became horribly bugged and the SFX kept cutting out. The background music and ambience kept playing, but all SFX was intermittently cutting out. For the single most cinematic part of the game, it was a very immersion destroying bug. I'm a big video games as art guy. I see the merit in having games like this and have played many games with poor if not just bad gameplay with great stories or presentation. But this is an example I feel misses the point of that balance. The story it tells is internal within yourself, and that's fine. Where it starts to become an issue is when the design/dev team forgot they were making a video game. Walking sims are often good because of the way things flow from moment to moment. Scorn lacks effective flow most of the time. Many of the areas feel separate from each other and as such, it can be hard to follow the pace as you go act to act. The visuals do more for the game than what little story there is does. That itself is my issue with Scorn. It is all show, little tell, nearly no play. I will recommend this for one main reason. I didn't hate my experience. I don't feel worse for having played this. I feel like there is something here for players. If you are a fan of H.R. Giger's work and want to play something that immerses you in it. If you are a fan of body horror and gore. If you want something with breathtaking views that are truly haunting. Then there is something here for you. If you want something with gameplay beyond the surface level, then there's not much to offer here. Gauge that before forking over your money and time. [Unmentioned but no, I don't think $40 is anywhere near worth it for this game. It's 90% off on the day I'm writing this and I think $4 is a lot more fair than $40. Absolutely crazy price to pay for something that you wont even think about a day later]
very interesting but at the same time very confusing, but its an interesting run
different but i liked it!
Це афігенно гарна графіка класні механіки
One of the most horrifically beautiful and aesthetically unique titles I've ever played. Prepare yourself for ~8 hours of enduring abject body horror amid heavy puzzles and combat that qualifies more as survival/attrition as you traverse a Gigeresque hellscape. The complainers can go play Call of Booty. 9/10
Horrible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ combat but the atmosphere and environment design make it worth the money
卧槽这游戏纯恶心,没有地图,没有教程容易迷路,不看攻略真难玩,而且看的头晕,逆天了,美术风格不错,血肉飞天,但是不好玩 ,不推荐,wdnm
