Scorn puts us in the role of a pilgrim who must traverse a decaying world to reach an uncertain destination. RL;DR: I would recommend Scorn only if you're looking for a walking simulator with puzzles and a suffocating atmosphere, along with some moments of action. I’ll start with what is undoubtedly the best thing this game has to offer: its atmosphere. Heavily inspired by H.R. Giger, the world of Scorn is made up of colossal structures, whose interiors are filled with machines, objects, and constructions that appear disturbingly organic. Everything seems to pulsate, flow, or serve as the skeletal framework for a larger whole, and as we make our way through narrow, oppressive corridors, one can’t help but feel as though they’re being willingly “digested” by a gigantic creature. All of this blends masterfully with superb sound design. I’ve often found myself looking over my shoulder, thinking I heard “something” behind me, only to discover it was the sound of the wind or the mechanical pulsing of a nearby wall or column. As for the gameplay mechanics, this is where my opinion splits into two distinctly different parts. Starting with the positives, the puzzle-filled areas reminded me a lot of great classics like Myst, where you’re never given any hints; it’s up to you to try to understand not only the current puzzle you’re trying to solve, but also how it fits into the area you’re in and how it might help you progress through an even bigger puzzle. I absolutely loved this, as the world of Scorn lends itself perfectly to offering unknown mechanisms and artifacts whose functions we must figure out through trial and error. This, combined with the fact that all objects integrate organically (both aesthetically and mechanically) with the environment and your character, gives Scorn’s world a brilliant polish—one that, despite its hostile and terrifying appearance, makes you want to get lost in it. The downside is, without a doubt, the “gunplay” (for lack of a better term) in the second third of the game. While it isn’t bad in and of itself, aiming often feels clunky, and the enemies you face are usually significantly faster than you. It’s true that you can get through the vast majority of these situations by relying on stealth or running away, but in doing so, you’ll be missing out on part of what this world has to offer. As for the tool you carry, it’s a living creature and feels like one—to the point that to switch “weapons,” you extract biological parts from it and swap them out for others (and the same happens when reloading). In terms of storytelling, Scorn has no dialogue, audio clips, or text. Everything is told visually, and it’s up to you to interpret what happened in that world of utter abandonment and decay. The story unfolds through the environments themselves, the objects you find, and the creatures you encounter as you progress. Even so, everything becomes relatively clear in the last third of the game (if you’ve been paying attention), thanks to how organically well-designed the world and level design are. In short, would I recommend Scorn? As a fan of horror games and games where you have to figure out how their mechanics work, yes. However, if you’re looking for a shooter with horror elements or a game that serves up its story on a silver platter, this probably isn’t the game for you.
it was perfect. perfect everything, down to the last minute details.
Experiencia ensimismante.
Absolutely terrifyingly intense. This game deserves an open world sandbox filled with puzzles and mysteries. The ambiance and world building is exquisitely unique.
Needs more blood and wierd sh1t
It was a nice walk through the gallery. There were a few intense moments and one time of being stuck with a puzzle. As for the first fully 'environmental storytelling' game it felt nilce. Really like the way all the interactions and the inventory visualisation are made in this game.
