Great game, nostaligic grpahics, great action, and great story.
I went into The Witcher 2 with high hopes. The combat is the biggest disappointment. It feels stiff and unresponsive in a way that constantly pulls you out of the moment. Light attacks, heavy attacks, dodges, and signs sound straightforward on paper, but the hitboxes are unreliable, animations lock you in place, and canceling moves is a nightmare. Fights against groups or bosses quickly turn into cheap, trial-and-error slogs rather than satisfying duels. I died far more often to clunky controls and stamina issues than to any real challenge. Compared to the first Witcher, it's even more button-mashing with extra frustration and even less flow. The game also throws you in the deep end with almost no helpful tutorial, then punishes you harshly for not already knowing how everything works. The inventory and menus are cumbersome, the map is borderline useless in tighter areas, and the constant backtracking through linear zones gets tiring fast. Choices from the first game are mostly brushed aside or heavily railroaded, which makes your previous playthrough feel like it barely mattered. On top of that, bugs, crashes, and painfully long loading screens (even for simple doors) kept breaking any sense of immersion I had left. The story has some genuinely strong moments and solid voice acting, but it’s bogged down by predictable plotting and lengthy exposition dumps. The endings feel rushed after all the buildup, and the world itself is smaller and less alive than I wanted—no real sense of open exploration, just corridors of rocks, trees, and political intrigue that never quite lands with the weight it aims for. The Enhanced Edition smooths out a few rough edges, but it doesn’t fix the core jank. If you’re coming from The Witcher 3 or simply want smooth, rewarding gameplay, I’d recommend skipping this one. It has real narrative ambition, and that makes the disappointing mechanics sting even more. A rough middle chapter at best. Not recommended.
actually its really painful to just get through the story line. i really enjoy witcher 1 (except the combat system) but not this one.
