Castle Crashers is pure chaotic fun and a very cool co-op game. I played it with a really good friend, and every session turned into complete madness, constant laughing, and somehow surviving despite making the worst decisions possible. The funniest part? It took me 3 hours to realize that you can actually block. After discovering this ancient secret technique, I managed to survive about 2 seconds longer than before. Truly a game-changing moment. The combat is simple but satisfying, the bosses are fun, and the co-op experience is where this game really shines. If you have a friend to play with, expect a lot of chaos, questionable teamwork, and unforgettable moments. Would happily spend another 3 hours forgetting basic game mechanics. 10/10 ⣿⡇⣸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⢰⠇⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣴⣶⣶⠟⣩⣴⣾⡿⠛⠛⠙⠫⠌⢁⡌⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣇⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡿⢑⠊⣬⡟⢛⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⢢⡿⠋⠐⠀⢀⠤⠀⠀⠄⢻⡇⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⠸⣿⣿⣿⡋⠎⠈⠾⡛⠵⠿⢿⣦⣽⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠗⢀⣾⡀⠻⢀⣠⠇⢤⢸⢱⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣇⢿⣿⡿⠃⣰⢟⣡⣾⣿⣷⣦⣼⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡇⣼⣿⣿⣯⠍⢁⣰⣿⠘⡜⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⣿⡘⢟⣥⣾⣧⡾⠛⠉⠉⠉⠉⠻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡏⢠⡇⣿⣿⣿ ⣿⣿⡝⣧⢻⡻⠿⠟⠁⣠⡆⠰⢷⠀⢀⠀⣍⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⢃⣿⡇⣿⣿⡟ ⣿⣿⣷⠹⣄⠻⣿⣶⣦⡙⠿⣶⣆⣘⠛⢠⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠏⣾⣿⡇⣿⠟⣼ ⣿⣿⣿⣧⢻⡜⣌⠻⣿⣿⣿⣴⣥⣦⣶⣾⣿⣿⣿⣿⠟⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣾⣿⣿⡇⢏⣾⢣

the first and only time ive ever played castle crashers was with the love of my life. ill never play it ever again because i fear some things are meant to stay exactly where it is you left them. i wont add more hours to a game when i know ive spent exactly this much time with him. i used to think it was really dumb because it was so hard, but he breezed through every boss like it was nothing while i just sat there looking pretty. i was just happy to see him happy. it was our game and we never finished it. i just hope hes still laughing and smiling.
Castle Crashers

Fun but very Outdated Side-scrolling Brawler

Maybe worth a try with the Demo
Castle Crashers is a nice classic brawler from the Flash era. Unfortunately, it is a title that has aged quite poorly due to several gameplay and design issues, including its awkward combat system, unresponsive controls, repetitive action, and surprisingly poor performance despite its relatively low system requirements.
Gameplay
It is a short but fun game to play with friends, but there are definitely better games to play co-op or online. On the other hand, playing alone can be a really tedious and frustrating experience, as it requires a significant amount of grinding to progress through the game's story. However, this game also includes several annoying sections that unnecessarily extend the experience with minigames that feel unpolished and poorly adapted to the brawler genre. This is the case with a timed escape section where, if you fail, you have to replay the entire level, or the absurd volleyball section, which is a bit lenghty and forces you to repeat the minigame from the beginning if you lose. The combat feels very repetitive, with only a small set of attacks that can be spammed endlessly without any real technique or depth. Enemies also suffer from this same issue, as they can often be approached through repeated stun hits, while they also rely on repetitive attack patterns to stun the player. On the other hand, character movement feels pretty awkward and inaccurate. Playable characters move very slowly and require several points invested in the Agility attribute to effectively dodge attacks or escape from enemies. Overall, most enemies are damage sponges that exist more to hinder game progression than to offer engaging encounters. The same applies to the bosses, although some of them have slightly better mechanics and are generally more enjoyable to fight. Finally, another issue within the gameplay is the enemies' hitboxes. Large enemies and bosses often lack defined hitboxes, leading to occasions where attacks appear to connect visually but they do any damage. Dealing damage often requires almost perfect alignment with an enemy's sprite, something that can be difficult due to the character's rough movement. However, enemies can grab players in mid-air or perform area attacks with surprisingly large hitboxes regardless of the direction they're facing.
Art and World Design
The game features a very unique visual style that stands out through the simplicity of its weapon, environment, character, and enemy designs. The game's Flash-inspired aesthetic is one of its most memorable aspects and it has held well enough over time. Nonetheless, some foreground elements can obstruct the our view and make some sections unnecessarily difficult to navigate or fight through. In terms of story, the game revolves around a simple yet fun rescue narrative that serves its purpose to move the characters from one level to the next.
Music and Sound effects
The soundtrack is an interesting but inconsistent aspect of the game, with some tracks that do not quite match the tone of certain levels or situations. The music is playful and cheerful, but it occasionally clashes with darker moments or more serious sections of the game. However, the audio often cuts between tracks, resulting in abrupt transitions or sometimes causing multiple tracks to overlap. The sound design is fairly basic, but it serves its purpose well by providing audio cues for attacks, enemy actions, and environmental interactions.
a major classic from my childhood. it’s just as good as i remember! 10/10
It's very hard for me to get bored of this game. With many different characters to play, so many pets, and many weapons, there was so much to do. I could play this game hours on end. The multiplayer option also makes this an amazing game as it's a lot of fun to play with friends. This is an amazing multiplayer and solo game.
That Deer do be Shidding

The Good

Classic Behemoth vibe and humour, absurd, weird, and goofy, story and character designs as well
Gameplay loop and controls are very straight forward and simple, easy to pick up and get friends to beat stuff up together
The game is just dumb fun, especially with friends, good game to just vibe to if you dont wanna think too much
If you really enjoy the game, there are a LOT of characters with different magic powers to play with, both from within the world and from other indie titles
Round floating pet designs are peak ngl

The Bad

Overall gameplay is simple, but repetitive, usually finding myself spamming the same moves for most effective damage
Game is built for multiplayer, so solo play can be a lot more punishing, requiring you to spam specific moves to stay alive
I wish the other stats than Magic had more upgrades to them like for Magic, they dont add much besides just damage and survivability
Weapons while having unique designs, also dont add much except stats and the occassional added effect

The Random

Back Off Barbarian is such an unrelated and random gamemode lol
Omg it's Hatty Hattington

Overall Thoughts
Dumb fun game, probs should convince a few friends to play with you, you'll get a couple hours of beating the crap outta enemies. If you're looking for more depth in mechanics, might not be the game for you right now
Castle Crashers was a game I played back in 2016 and I loved it then and still do now. The way to go with this game is to play with friends. You will have battles with and against each other, so the game gets a bit personal at times. The soundtrack is fantastic and is very nostalgic. The combat is a bit repetitive but is very fun. The overall games mission is to save the four princesses from bosses all spread across the map. It's a simple yet amazing structure. My personal favorite boss is the Necromancer. The OST and mechanics for this boss are very fun and unlike anything in the game. Overall, I would say this game is definitely worth its price tag.
Castle Crashers is one of those games that's impossible not to have fun with. The combat is simple but satisfying, the humor never takes itself too seriously, and playing with friends makes the whole experience even better. It might not be the most complicated game out there, but its charm, replayability, and chaotic co-op are exactly what make it so memorable.
