It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within. Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above.

After finishing Metro 2033, I wasn't sure how Metro: Last Light was going to follow it. A lot of sequels lose what made the original special by trying to be bigger and louder. Last Light somehow manages to expand on almost everything without losing the identity that made Metro so unique in the first place. The first thing I noticed was how much smoother everything felt. The movement, gunplay, stealth, and overall pacing all feel more refined. Combat still has that weight to it where every weapon feels powerful and improvised, but it also feels more responsive. Sneaking through enemy territory is more satisfying than ever, and when things do go wrong, firefights are intense. What impressed me most is that the atmosphere never took a back seat. The Metro is still one of the most immersive settings in gaming. The stations feel alive with people going about their daily lives, having conversations, arguing, laughing, telling stories, and just trying to survive. It still feels like you're walking through a real society instead of a series of levels designed for the player. The environmental storytelling is just as strong as it was in the first game. Last Light continues to trust the player to pay attention instead of stopping every few minutes to explain everything. There are so many little details hidden throughout the world that reward simply slowing down and looking around. Whether it's an abandoned room, a conversation between NPCs, or the remains of someone who clearly had their own story, the world constantly feels like it has history. Exploration is still incredibly rewarding. Taking the time to search every corner often leads to valuable supplies, hidden stashes, weapon upgrades, and alternate paths that many players will probably never even notice even years later. The game never feels like it's wasting your time for being curious. If anything, it encourages it. The world building somehow gets even better. Last Light expands on the different factions, the politics of the Metro, and the people who call it home without ever feeling overwhelming. Every group has believable motivations, and very few characters feel like simple heroes or villains. Everyone is just trying to survive in a broken world, and that makes the conflicts feel much more grounded. The story also deserves a lot of credit. Instead of simply repeating the first game's formula, it builds naturally from the consequences of Metro 2033 while introducing new ideas and new moral questions. It's emotional without feeling forced, and by the end I genuinely cared about what happened to the characters. The quieter moments ended up sticking with me just as much as the action. One thing I really appreciate about the Metro series is how confident it is. It doesn't constantly interrupt itself with tutorials, objective markers, or long exposistion. It lets you exist in the world, listen, observe, and piece things together yourself. That's something so many modern games seem afraid to do, and it's one of the biggest reasons these games feel so immersive. Metro: Last Light doesn't replace what made Metro 2033 special. It builds on it. It keeps the incredible atmosphere, environmental storytelling, world building, exploration, and tension that made me fall in love with the first game while polishing nearly every part of the gameplay. If Metro 2033 made me a fan of the series, Last Light convinced me that Metro is one of the most immersive and consistently well-crafted franchises I've ever played.

Nota Geral | Overall Rating
Metro: Last Light takes everything that made the first game work and refines it without losing its essence. 4A Games could have turned the sequel into a more conventional, more palatable shooter, but chose to keep the tense, oppressive survival proposal that defined Metro 2033, just with far superior technical polish. It's rare to see a sequel expand the experience without betraying what made the original special, and that's exactly what Last Light delivers.
Jogabilidade | Gameplay
Combat is more fluid and responsive than in the first game, but the survival essence remains intact. Military ammo as currency is still there, forcing that constant decision between firepower and economy. What really evolves is the stealth system: shooting out lightbulbs, hiding in the dark, and checking your watch to calculate how much longer your invisibility lasts makes every human encounter a matter of planning, not just reflexes. Mutant confrontations remain chaotic and genuinely tense, especially in the underwater sections and areas infested with creatures you only notice when it's already too late.
The campaign keeps the lean length that worked so well in the first game, between 10 and 12 hours of a well-paced journey. There are no filler moments or padding missions, every station and every stretch of tunnel has a narrative or mechanical purpose. It's a length that respects the player, delivering a complete experience without artificially stretching screen time.
Enredo | Story
Last Light continues Artyom's story shortly after the events of the first game, and the decision not to retcon Metro 2033's "bad" ending is bold and rewarding. The war between the Alliance and the Red Line gets more spotlight, and the game uses it to explore themes of fanaticism, survival, and the human cost of war in a way that rarely feels forced. Artyom's relationship with the characters who join him along the journey, especially Anna, gives an emotional weight the first game hadn't explored as deeply. The final climax, once again dictated by your actions, ties the duology together in a satisfying and coherent way.
Visual
The visual leap from the first game is huge. Dynamic lighting, particle effects in the radioactive haze, and the level of detail in the stations make Last Light one of the most beautiful games of its generation. The surface sequences, with snow falling over Moscow's ruins, and the flooded tunnel areas create striking visual contrasts. The mutant design also got a notable upgrade, making every creature more threatening and more detailed than in the previous game.
Audio
The sound design maintains the first game's standard of excellence and even improves in some areas. The echo of the tunnels, the muffled sound underwater, and the distant roars of mutants keep building that constant tension. The soundtrack is used with the same surgical restraint, coming in only at moments that truly need emotional weight or tension. The Russian voice acting with subtitles remains the definitive experience, delivering an authenticity that reinforces the devastated world the game builds.
