Reviews
A simulator of spending hours flirting over the radio with your alcoholic boss while developing an absolutely insane conspiracy paranoia in the middle of nowhere, only for the game to remind you that your real adult life problems are still waiting for you back in the city. 10/10.
I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this game, there is just one thing. Absolutely no way that 40 year olds in the 80s talked like corny millenials
Short and bittersweet. Great game.
I enjoyed this game far more than I thought I would. Full disclosure, my main motivation for playing it was because I liked the backgrounds in the points shop. But I ended up liking it so much that I binged it in one sitting. I finished in about 5 hours, but I think it could be finished sooner. (My extended time is likely due to a mixture of being nosy and wanting to explore everything, and also having a terrible sense of direction and needing to check the map every 1.3 seconds.) It's definitely a shorter experience and not action heavy, but it's well paced and does a good job of building suspense in the time it has. Starting right from the intro, the game deals in some heavier topics, but one of my favorite things was the way it balanced the darker themes with a lot of humor. Henry and Delilah are pretty funny together. It's also visually stunning with great music, which really adds to the experience as well. I also liked that there was so much grey area in the events that you encounter. Henry uses the fire lookout job as escapism from the problems with his wife, and the player can definitely debate whether he's handling things the right way, but he's not a bad guy. Delilah makes some really questionable decisions as well and often feels guilty, but it can definitely be debated how much she's really at fault in some cases. And at the end when the bigger mystery comes unraveled, it's still not 100% clear what really happened and who should be blamed, if anyone. Definitely worth picking up. I don't think I'd want to pay full price, but definitely worth it for the $3.99 I paid on sale.

Firewatch is one of the best examples of a "walking simulator" done well. Instead of focusing on combat or complex mechanics, it tells a deeply personal story about loneliness, guilt, and human connection.
Firewatch isn't just a "short walking simulator slop", it's more than you really think it is! It does resemble how reality is sometimes, that you must distract yourself to forget the previous problems you had or currently have. As we continue our journey with Firewatch, we are trying to prevent fires happening but also unravel the mysteries of the forest and solving problematic encounters on our hiking journey. Firewatch has suprised me a lot with it's story, as I didn't know anything about the game. It is a very well written story in such a short period of game time, where a hiking journey becomes more than just that. You will definitely be infested and in love with this game, both visually, sound wise and story wise. Developers have managed to create a game that could in some way resemble somebody's reality and question the player throughout the entire game. You should definitely grab Firewatch if you want to immerse yourself into this short hiking adventure and to discover what the forest has for us!
Firewatch is a really specific tilte, which reminds me of What Remains of Edith Finch, however in comparison narration is lackluster. It's really simple, short linear game with eye-pleasing graphics. There is a point in game which may creep you out a little bit, however it's not scary. If I had to describe this game, it feels like a book of somebody's summer while trying to runaway from your problems. I do feel a little bit disppointed - it's practically a diary of Henry's instead of a game. The only choie you get is the relationship you mantain towards your boss and wife (and even that is really limited, when the game tries to let you know he'd rather cheat on his sick wife by flirting with boss). Every other thing is linear. If you focus on nature and story of what's happening during your firewatch work, it's quite enjoyable. I feel like you can grab it on big discount to give it a try. I know it tries to be a game about life, however it feels a little bit incomplete due to lack of decision making, I feel like narration could be better - I mean personal life of main character. Nothing changed, there is no consequences, no decision's from Henry, no character develompent, his boss tries to force him to get back to his wife???, he just kinda feels like a bad husband? Even from before his wife got sick. I really wish I liked this game more, but it's just fine. As someone wrote "nice to walk in digital forest". Maybe inetersting conspiracy/mystery plotpoint, however it achieves nothing if your character is in a limbo and refuses to act, think or grow up. Definitely grab it on discount, if you want to play it. I'm not even sure if I'd recommend it, it's really overhyped. If steam gave me an option I'd give it "maybe on sale".
