Simulator of getting headshotted through three layers of fog, two mountains, and a concrete wall by a mercenary who spotted you missing a pistol shot from 800 meters away. Stealth in this game is an urban legend.
This is how hard games used to be, kids :) If you think this is hard, you should try the original ARMA (operation flashpoint) game.
I played and finished this game several times when it first released back in 2004. Back then there was NOTHING LIKE IT on the market. And it still is to this day a top tier FPS. The graphics and and Tropical environments are still beautiful. The gun play still feels visceral and punchy, the enemy AI is better than most FPS games you will play today. Do yourself a favor and tPLAY this classic. This is the original FARCRY. The best in the series IMO. This game has a good story, It's OPEN ENDED, not open world. Meaning you are in a closed map with a linear path, but the objectives along the way can be approached many different ways. 10/10 CLASSIC ! IF GAMING HAD A HALL OF FAME... THIS GAME NEEDS TO BE IN IT !!!
I am not sure what to say about this as I would with other titles. This game qualifies as my favorite shooter. If you like shooting, this is it. I understand that the engine is wonky and the draw distance desires do not fully connect. Sometimes, you will be shot by someone that you do not see. However, as you learn to play the game, it becomes the best stealth/action/sniping/planning shooter anybody could have ever imagined. It is paradise. It is the game that originated the modernized trope of "a far cry from paradise." Project Farcry is the highest achieving shooter for its technical limitations. It demonstrated the brilliance of mathematics in the CryEngine. It is lightweight, it is artistically beautiful, it is well-paced with its gameplay. It delivers the absolute peak of what a shooter can and should be. Farcry (original) is unmatched and an unmissable experience for any serious videogame enjoyer.
this is the only game that truly deserves the name Far Cry. its challenging, it came up with new game play and it looks amazing.
Game is really difficult and frustrating!
Oh, man, this game is such a massive nostalgic hit for me. I used to play with my uncle, we would run around the field killing the NPCs and enjoying the best game we had at that time (This was around 10 years ago, if not more). I remember loving how the car sounded with its machinegun, then how we accidentally came across those monsters even without progressing through the story. We would play it as people play GTA nowadays, but we had so much fun. It was a shock for me to find this game on steam. As soon as i saw it, i immediately bought it and it did not disappoint. An amazing game, which was far beyond its time. Great story, immersive environment, stressful fights, outstanding audio for guns and to sum it all up a great story, especially for its time. Nowadays, Ubisoft has a bad REP, but back in the days, they were the giants, who made those gems that shaped our childhood. This game awakened a child inside me with those sweet moments. In addition, Steam being one of the best at it, if you think that the game is old and it will not run on your system, thats what i thought too, but it ran like butter. A few things i did not like though. One, way too many enemies at once, Second, your character being too sensitive to even one bullet, i die instantly and even though the game is around 3-4 hrs long, it took me almost 9hrs, because i died so many times. and third, shutting the game off and turning it back on causes the system failure, meaning, if my movement was set to W,S,A,D it goes blank and i have to manually adjust it. It does get annoying, but overall, it was a decent experience. Fourth, if you are recording videos of this game and you want it to be smooth, just do it in Windowed mode, you will get better FPS and your game will not Freeze while recording. I had moments where my audio was going through the video, but the gameplay was frozen, putting the game on Windowed helped it.
Yeah, so i haven't written any reviews on steam for quite some time. But i just had to write one for this game. I beat this game out of spite. Had a CD-version of it many years ago, but haven't really played it that much, only the first couple levels. I remember that back in the day it looked phenomenal, and the gunplay felt really decent as well. So when i saw it on sale for a buckaroo or so on Steam, i decided to get it and finally beat it. I should have just beaten my meat instead. The game aged horribly. The steam version is the exact patch where enemy AI got broken and they became able to detect and shoot you through tents and sometimes even walls. But even if you fix this particular issue the game itself is still stinky doo-doo at times. I played it on the "Challenging" difficulty, so i understand that the game is supposed to be hard. But some levels and their specific parts are so talentlessly designed it is baffling. It feels like no one even playtested them (at least not on every difficulty setting). You just have to get lucky to finish these stages, or play them so many times that you remember every single enemy and their routes and just cheese your way through by trying to play around the enemy AI. Your adversaries will shred your MC's health in seconds with sniper-like precision from a really long range, but the damage your character deals is highly inconsistent. And don't forget that you have to do some difficult sections all in one try, because the checkpoints are your only way of saving progress if you are not willing to trick the game into letting you save manually. I'm not going to comment on the story and the voice acting. Those things are to be expected from a 2004 game. I would even say that they are endearing in a way, as they remind us of days gone by when games did not take themselves too seriously. When people say that games today are too easy and pamper the players too much - they are usually right. But games that are hard not because of the player's low skill level, but because of the level/game designer's low skill level - are not something that we should treasure and commend. Don't waste your time and money, find something better to play instead. But if for some reason you bought this digital torture device or own it already and have decided to play it - do yourself a favour and just uninstall it after a couple levels.
So let me put it this way if you dont have any nostalgia for this game dont play it. 1. NPCs can see you through walls and even shoot you. 2. They can somehow spam RPGs at you. 3. Your gun accuracy is sh*t. 4. You have to headshot enemies (with your sh*tty accuracy) otherwise they take way too many bullets to die. 5. The FOV sucks and you cant change it. Maybe this was impressive back in 2004 but it definitely didnt age well.
