This is a great game. I put this in the same league as God of War and Spider man. This is a highly underrated game. Though there are some glitches but nothing that ruins the experience.
This is a midgame review, but as someone who has thoroughly played the previous instalment too, I feel that I am in a good position to write a review now after having played 30+ hours. I believe that this game is like the first Horizon but on steroids! Better in every aspect from gameplay to amazing graphics to story telling. I will describe the best parts that left a positive impression in my humble opinion. I will update this review as I progress the game, for both negative and positive impressions.
Machine parts targeting
Now you can target and tag individual parts on machines making it easier to get your nimble fingers on that sweet part you are after. You don't have mentally juggle while in combat to remember which one of the highlighted parts is the one you are after for a specific upgrade or salvage quest. The quest related ones also have a helpful "Quest" label when highlighted so you are certain that you've targeted the right thing.
Balanced aim assist for controllers
A huge plus for controller players; this is a mechanic that the first instalment was missing and it made playing in higher difficulties much more challenging as aiming with the controller was just atrocious. I remember the dozens of arrows that were needed to hit just a fleeting goose. Now jays, crows, pigeons come down easily even when you are just a bit off target. I get it; for the hardcore gamer it feels a bit like "cheating" -- the game holding your hand as it auto-corrects your handicapped aiming via the frail controller joystick. For me, the trade off is fair. A small aim assist that facilitates a more enjoyable gameplay of a single player game (for competitive multiplayer games my opinion differs) is very welcome.
Enhanced map
A huge problem with the map in the previous Horizon game was that if you visited a tallneck too early, before you had explored most of the surrounding area, which is the normal thing to do anyway, you wouldn't be able to know which exactly places had been manually explored and which portion was revealed due to the tallneck intel. The fog of war just lifted for the affected map area, but the places of interest would not show up until you manually explored them on foot. A hell of a visual glitch that troubled me greatly. Now the issue is solved as the game introduces two layers of fog. The first completely unknown area is covered in clouds as in the previous game, the area revealed by the tallneck appears as explored but with a thin translucent veil on top of it showing that it's not yet manually explored by the player. Lastly, you have the manually explored area which shows completely clear on the map.
Enhanced inventory
A true blessing for all the hoarders like me out there. Hoard to your heart's content now, as the excess of items is now stored automatically in your private stash. This is a separate inventory that conveniently follows you in the form of a elaborate chest in every major settlement where you can go and just restock everything that is missing with just a simple button.
Small pet peeves
Things that I don't like so much but are just a small nuisance and nothing major are: - The need to hold the action button for most actions to take effect; for some actions I get it, it is an elaborate way to kind of delay the action trying to indicate the more elaborate or time consuming task that it initiates, e.g. creating potions, traps, etc. In other places however such as in-game menus, such delayed actions are plainly annoying without any major significance as in the intensity or complexity of the task. When we are in an in-game menu the game time is paused anyway so it makes absolutely no sense to tax the player with such delays. - Most dialogues have a nice "skip" effect, as in the previous game, by pressing the A button on the controller (or Space on keyboard). The A button skips only the currently spoken line, not the whole thing, acting as a timelapse enhancer of sorts which is totally controlled by the player. However in other dialogues, especially in quest initiators or ending cutscenes, you only have an option of X skip which skips the whole thing. Why not implement the same mechanic skipping only the current line?

Amazing! Super strategic gameplay, amazing natural scenery, and great characters. I wish the inventory system were better designed so we can see what we are swapping out for what in the weapon wheel. Overall the workflow for equipping things is cumbersome.
aloy is so cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Horizon Forbidden West has been an incredible experience so far. I’m nearing the end of the main story, but I’ve been taking my time exploring every location and completing as much side content as possible, so my playtime is definitely longer (and will be even more than when I post this) than a straight story run - and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. The world is absolutely breathtaking. The environments are some of the most beautifully crafted I’ve seen in any game. Everything feels carefully curated, from the landscapes to the machines to the character designs. The environment team did a phenomenal job bringing this world to life, and it makes exploring every corner genuinely rewarding. I’ve found myself enjoying even the smallest details the game has to offer - and definitely snapped too many screenshots so far! My only disappointment is outside the game itself: it’s a shame Sony won't bring their titles to PC anymore. If there’s a sequel, I’d love to continue the journey - but right now, it feels like I might not get that chance.
