I rarely post reviews. I thought this one deserves it; At least for those who, like myself, are hesitating to step-in because of some negativ comments, mostly saying that the game 'repeats itself'. The concept is a loop and even from the videos (bad choice of narrativ if you ask me) one would think that you get to repeat yourself over and over again and thus, the gameplay would be boring. Let me make this clear: This is absolutely NOT the case. The 'loop', the storyline and the gameplay throughout this design and story choice is (again) 100% mastered by the amazing people from Arkane. I'm saying 'again' because the game is in the true line of the other games from this studio. Particularly, 'Dishonored' and more particularly 'Dishonored Death of the Outsider'. In terms of gameplay, I would say Deathloop is a boosted-with-guns version of the later. The fact that there are (only) 4 maps doesn't (didn't for me) make the gameplay repeating or boring; not at all. In fact, since each map has various objectives and different set-ups during the four times of day (morning, noon, afternoon and evening) makes it so that you will rarely (or in fact never) repeat the exact same 'loop'. The only way you would do that is likely because you messed it up and completely lack the creativity to explore one of the many different aspects of approach, strategy and tactics open to you to complete your objective. Similar to a multiplayer TDM or co-op game, getting to know the map better is in fact just this edge you need to become better than the opposition and perform the 'perfect run'. And making the perfect run, by building up your arsenal, acquiring new powers and unveiling the storyline to make you closer to 'ending the entire sh*t loop;) is very rewarding and enjoyable. Whether you choose to go full stealth and for your objective only or want to clear the entire map, there's always enough choices and challenges for you to master and overcome to make your run a special (and at times 'tense') moment in your journey. The game requires more than just running and gunning. With limited health, power and ammo, you'd better of having a tactic and ensuring a tactical retreat if you don't want to return to the loop 'empty handed'. While the AI is rather dumb and you can easily win a skirmish, if you start being overwhelmed by a dozen of'em and have only one 'life' remaining, you're gonna start to sweat and can only hope you will be able to make it back to your 'safehouse' before you die like an idiot and will have to start it over again in the next loop. So, yeah, same as Dishonored, it's an 'open play-smart' Stealth+FPS gameplay. The maps layout and enemies behavior are clearly made for this. And as I said, 100% mastered. A true masterpiece in this aspect. Same as for the immersion, the story-telling and unveiling, the characters and the storyline/dystopic environment: 100% original, 100% fun, 100% consistent, 100% interesting. You can really feel the 'Arkane' touch and know-how in it. Probably the best from all they did so far. The lore is also similar to 'Dishonored'. There's enough without being overwhelming. The game remains an action game. Same as 'Dishonored' again, the lore also comes with audio recordings. These recordings are really fun to listen to. The voices, the content and overall the villain characters are amazing. You're gonna love to hate these guys and want to kill them. They aren't just the common evil character. You would eventually even feel for them. Stuck on this rock for dozens of years, repeating the same thing in a loop over and over again, no wonder they turned mad. Overall, killing this bunch of fly-high, f*cked-up junkies that are boozing and partying all day when they don't try to find new ways of committing suicide to spend their day until the next loop, is really enjoyable:) I never had so much fun in finding different ways to end the life of a 'pixelled character'. Knowing that there's no real bloodshed, they will live again on the next loop and they don't care about their own life, so why would you:) I still have one small frustration about the design choice with regards to the (very) limited number of powers, perks and weapons you can equip. It's hard (at least for me) to ignore the ones that are best matching my playstyle and equip different ones. For the sake of a more diverse and richer gameplay, I would have liked to have (or gain) the ability of equipping one more of each, so to be able to experiment more (safely;) Else, technically, the game is very clean. I only encountered one bug a few times with the UI not showing properly after a run. Forcing me to quit the game and relaunch before accessing my arsenal and move to the next time of day. Luckely at this moment, the game was already saved so not much of a frustration and not a huge issue. Nothing else, really. In conclusion, I had a great time playing Deathloop (twice in a row). The game will remain in my library and I will likely play it again in some time (like I did with Dishonored, multiple times:) In short, a great game from this studio (once again) and I'm eager to see what they will offer next. Just keep-up the good work guys and thx for this amazing gaming experience!
It's a cold war dishonored, it's great.
Meccanica e storia originale, a tratti ripetitivo ma merita di essere giocato
El juego te lleva de la mano en todo momento, no hay lugar a la imaginacion. si buscas algo similar juega Hitman
I started Deathloop a while ago and had some fun with it, but never played all the way through. I'm glad I picked it back up on the Steamdeck. Some of the dialogue was a little juvenile and some characters were a little one-dimensional, but the gameplay is very fun and the slow discovery of key information and changes to each location at different times of day keeps you engaged.
mmmmm yummy
Finally finishing this game I will say I enjoyed it very much but dying did get frustrating at points just to lost gear I wanted. The setting, the design, the art and narrative are great and follow up from dishonored well. Similar gameplay and mechanics make it an easy pick it up but this will certainly require being thorough and patient. The looping system is interesting and there are loads of optional puzzles to flesh out more story. Gunplay is solid, ai could be better but the overall game is an 7.5-8 / 10. Writing was a little odd or childish at time, pvp is not really the best but I did leave it on for the full play through. Overall issues were just the connection experience and not really knowing if they aren't dying because of internet or perks or cheats. Wait for a sale for sure though not a 60$ game at 5 years old
Comme une boisson fermentée : on regrette le lendemain mais on reconsomme jusqu'au soir.
