I played New Order and Old Blood on 100% Steam Achievements. I dont mind grind or challenges. There is hard and fair and there is unbalanced, unfair and lazy game design. The latter counts for this Wolfenstein. Oh boy... Story What starts as a frightening alternate 1961 where N's nearly conquered the world, results in a slapstick circus and reminded me of movies like Iron Sky. The worldbuilding around the N's (Kanzler meeting, Roswell visit) is so intense, atmospheric and fitting. The narration for the main plot and main characters is full of loopholes, illogicals and dont conclude! The ending is simply cut short. Things mentioned dont play a role anymore. And for a game which shouldn't confirm stereotypical cliches, there are more than enough. If you are interested in further details and dont mind (minor) spoilers, leave a comment. Gameplay There are no boss battles, no side antagonists. Challenge comes from enemy waves almost like in serious sam. I guess it must be that way because AI is plain stupid: Approach and shoot. Enemies are the same the whole campaign and nothing surprising awaits you. Weapon balancing is horrible. If you got a fully charged "Lasergewehr" it will do everything for you. I carried these as long as possible through the levels. The game suggests you (with contraptions which enhances your movement) that you have the freedom of choice how you approach certain situations, like in immersive sims (Prey, Deus Ex, Dishonored, etc.). That is an illusion. The contraptions are mandatory to pass certain areas of the level and it doesnt matter which one you have. Which makes the choice obsolete. The three different "paths" are often next to each other. Which means, that you wouldnt need those contraptions at all if the level design would be different. Last but not least: You cant use these contraptions in a creative way, mostly only at yellow painted areas. Side quests: Repeatable grind maps recycled from the main story. But I quite enjoyed the DLCs because they were solid in narration, style and presentation. But you might put the price tag in consideration. There is a saying: Picking low hanging fruits. This game feels like that. But these low hanging fruits are mostly rotten. So much implemented and none executed well.
