About
The Outer Worlds 2 is the eagerly-awaited sequel to the award-winning first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment (just look at the exciting number of dashes in this sentence!). Time to clear your calendar – get ready for an action-packed adventure with a new crew, new weapons, and new enemies in a new colony! So much newness!
As a daring and most likely good-looking Earth Directorate agent, you must uncover the source of devastating rifts threatening to destroy all of humanity. Your investigation leads to Arcadia, home of skip drive technology, where the fate of the colony, and ultimately the entire galaxy, rests on your decisions—your strengths, your flaws, your crew, and the factions you choose to trust.
The Arcadia colony is engulfed in a factional war, as the Protectorate’s so-called benevolent rule is challenged by the rebellion of their religious order and a corporate invasion. As destructive rifts spread across the colony, each faction fights to control or close them for their own ends. Navigate diverse zones, uncover hidden lore, and shape the fate of a system on the brink!
Build your character with the abilities and choices that reflect your playstyle. The colony reacts to your every move, crafting a narrative that’s yours to own—whether you’re a disciple of diplomacy, an astute strategist, a crusader for chaos, or something different altogether. And yes, you can dumb!
Recruit companions with unique traits, backgrounds and goals. Whether you choose to help them achieve their ambitions or steer them toward your own objectives, your influence shapes their growth (or death), making them an integral part of the immersive story you create together.

I love the animations, guns feel awesome and Audio is excellent. Negative 1. The game is currently not loading up for me, it gets stuck on preparing shaders/textures. Something is wrong with the optimization of this game. 2. The game feels dead, and I think its because of the Npcs, I wish they added Ai llms to have natural conversations with npcs. That would save this game.
I'm only 14 hours in, so I can't give a complete review, only my thoughts so far. It's FAAAAR better than a lot of negative reviews here seem to claim, IMO. Far better than the treatment I've seen it get on Reddit and elsewhere. So much so that I honestly wonder how many of those people even played the game beyond just loading it up for 30 minutes on Game Pass and then jumping on the hate bandwagon. People want New Vegas...well, this is the closest thing Obsidian has made to New Vegas since New Vegas. Like in New Vegas, choices matter in OW2, and the choices you make reverberate out in many ways. There's numerous approaches you can take to almost every problem, and the characters and world react organically to whatever solutions you go with...and there even seems to be dialogue to react to in what sequence you do things. This makes the world feel very alive in precisely the same way New Vegas did. Granted, it's not Baldur's Gate 3 in that regard (nothing is), but there's quite a lot of depth to it. Much more so than in Outer Worlds 1, which I grant was too mechanically simple. This improves upon and remedies all of those issues with Outer Worlds 1. Way more weapons, way more armor, unique effects with weapons and armor that can synergize with other skills and perks, etc. This is a true RPG and there's tons of potential for creative and interesting builds. People say the writing is "bad" and/or "cringe". The writing is not bad or "cringe" - it's campy and intentionally so, in a similar way to how Fallout is (but different, much more satirical tone). The "Flaws" system is fantastic. A great idea that I don't think I've seen get enough acclaim. It feel both tighter and deeper than OW1 in terms of it's role-playing mechanics, which I appreciate. Dialogue and action choices have meaninful consequences. There's a lot of different approaches and paths one can take to the various objectives and missions that the game throws at you. Companions were a bit better in the first game, but there's some good ones here. So far it seems to me that the devs want the player to focus on a particular style of gameplay or build and it would be difficult to try to be a jack of all trades. Unlike some of the negative reviews here, I think that's a good thing. It makes it far more interesting and fun to role play than it would be if you could just do everything - pick every lock, charm every NPC, sneak through every location, win every gunfight, etc. I don't understand why anybody would think that would be better design. It wouldn't.
I waited till pricing was a little bit less ridiculous, but I should have read some more reviews. It seems obsidian decided to crank up the body count and remove the humor that made it bearable. I was looking for more Outer Worlds, and I'm just not finding it. In your first post-title planet, there's just one mass casualty event that's avoidable if you've pumped up your hacking skill unreasonably high, or you cheat and use a mod to respec your stats. In the next setting There are THREE DIFFERENT cutscene massacres, including one where students are gunned down in their beds. And without the dark humor from the original game, its a bit too soul crushing for my amusement. The companions are ok, and one is genuinely funny in an accidental way, but you can't upgrade their gear with what you have, and they don't take orders anymore. Its like a game obsidian would make BEFORE Outer Worlds before finding the magic... except it came later. I don't know how far I'll get before I bounce off, but it's not looking good.
8/10 Good writing Good art direction Unfortunately held back by being made by obsidian {Terrible pathfinding, basic sandbox open world shooter gameplay} Dont play outer worlds 1 just play this game its really good
Great game. Reminded me of Prey 2016 and Bioshock. More memorable than Outer Worlds 1. Choices, skills, and perks mattered throughout the game. Dialog was a bit annoying in the beginning with the Marvel movie "everyhing is a joke" but it got better later on. Gunplay was way better than the first. Overall solid choice.
"Just what to do , start the cycle... here's the cue- its fibonacci, a sequence largely summing two preceding numbers..." - absolute fire
Very difficult to get the game to load; too many patched are probably conflicting with each other
I wanted this to be good, for it to carry the fire the first one had. It just doesn't. It's not just the forced DEI lameness, the completely mid story, or them just reskinning all the creatures from the first game, the gameplay just doesn't feel fun. I've played 80 hours and I have zero interest in this game. It just isn't worth buying. The studio could have done so much, but they just phoned in a crap sequel.
As someone who really enjoyed the first game, the sequel feels like a bit of a let-down, people who never played the first or didn't like the first may feel that the changes are improvements. In many ways the game has been heavily simplified and lost some of the better mechanics from the original. For example you can no longer choose what gear your companions have and can no longer give them commands or stances, so you have no control over them whatsoever besides using their special ability. Armour pretty much is just either light, medium or heavy, but the only difference between difference armours of the same weight class is appearance, they all have identical stats. There are other mechanics removed from the game, stealth is largely pointless, you can avoid enemies but usually avoiding them won't help you meet the objective in any way, combat is still decent, dialogue is still decent, the story doesn't feel quite as fresh and original as the first and really it doesn't feel like it has Obsidian's stamp on it any more, it feels kind of generic.
