Tales of Berseria™

I’m not a Jrpg aficionado or even a fan of Anime, but this game won me over. The story is good, not great. It’s a revenge tale with some twists and pretty good intrigue. It’s kind of interesting how you play as what some see as the bad guys. The characters can be cringe, some annoying, and some cliche but if you stick with it those same characters start to grow on you. It helps that some of them go through real character growth as story goes. The gameplay is easy on normal. Kind of button mashy. I know there is complexity there but it’s almost entirely optional, just figure out the enemies weakness and mash. Overall it’s a easy, sit back and enjoy the grind and story type of game. So yes i do recommend. P.s It plays great on the Steam Deck

Hace muchos años atras queria jugar este titulo, en el pasado jugue los demas Tales of y ver tanta referencia junta (Ademas de descubrir varios detalles de la historia) puedo decir que me lo pase bien, no es para todos este tipo de juego a veces te llegas a cansar, en su traduccion al español hay un error cuando se habla con los Katz en su mazmorra opcional (Las estepas), su forma de "arreglarlo" es cambiando el idioma del juego al ingles, pero de ahi en mas no tiene otra especie de bug o error.

I've had this in my library for a few years after picking it up on a steep sale, and decided to finally play through it after the announcement of the remaster. For starters, I wouldn't recommend getting this version over the upcoming remaster considering it's more expensive and doesn't include DLC. After finishing it today, I don't think it really needs a remaster, but I guess it's nice for people who don't already own it. Tales of Berseria is overall a good JRPG that particularly excels in its characters and storytelling, but unfortunately falls flat in many other aspects for me, including unmemorable music (90% of it anyway), mostly monotonous combat, poor dungeon design, and slow, tedious exploration/backtracking. Thankfully, the character development and story is so good that it makes the game's shortcomings more bearable and worth pushing through. Velvet is a complex protagonist that isn't always likeable, which in my opinion, makes her feel more relatable, and it makes the moments where she shows her softer side more impactful. The rest of the cast isn't quite as layered as Velvet, but they're all great in their own ways, and it's nice seeing them become friends throughout the course of the main story. Even though you'll find some low quality textures throughout the game, the presentation is still quite good thanks to the game's art style, especially at high resolutions. It also runs flawlessly on Steam Deck and looks gorgeous on Steam Deck OLED. I can definitely recommend Tales of Berseria to JRPG fans who are willing to put up with some mundanity to experience a great story, and people who value story and characters above anything else in the games they play. I'll leave this review with a positive recommendation, but if the game seems interesting to you and you don't already own this version, it's probably worth waiting a month for the remaster. also the opening by FLOW is always hype
