Gran continuación del Zestiria.
Tales of Berseria is a game that will keep you entertained for dozens of hours. If you like JRPGs.
The main advantage is the storyline, which is interesting and quite dark for a JRPG. The theme of revenge, which runs through most of the game, and the characters are the main theme and the biggest plus, although not the only one. The music is quite good, there are some really nice tracks, and it builds the atmosphere. The graphics are just okay. The game was created on the Unreal Engine 3 and released on older generation consoles, which results in fairly simple open locations, but the cities and towns are pleasant. Of course, it's an anime game, so it looks much better thanks to the style. The game has a lot of side quests and a few additional mini-games, which further extends the playing time and your stay in the world. The world itself is large and interesting, it is not monotonous, there are many different landscapes, from ordinary green areas, through snowy regions, to swamps and others. The combat system is Action JRPG where the difficulty level matters and you have to focus on the more difficult levels, there is no turn-based option here, but the combat is really fun and engaging. Berseria is a game where you can spend many hours getting to know a very cool story and interesting characters.
Good game, good story. I found the combat a bit complex to understand, but you get used to it over time. The best part is the characters, especially Magilou, who is a 10/10 :)
one of the best tales games made highly recommend!
what a fun time I had
This has so much potential to be at the upper echelon of JRPGs. The story, characters and skits are really great and worth your time. I usually am apathetic towards child characters in JRPGs, but Berseria did a great job with the main kid character in this game. I like his arc and seeing his growth throughout the story can inspire some confidence. I found myself caring for all characters in the main party and I was eager to learn how each of them were going to tackle their respective issues. So what’s the big stinker? The dungeons. These dungeons are really bland. It is incredibly easy for any given dungeon to become a blur as it looks the same throughout its entire duration. Enemy encounters can become a blur as well as it really is a matter of spamming against the enemies’ weak points (especially if you decide to main Velvet, but applies to all characters). Sometimes, it was easy to settle to just spam one arte only, even if was sub-optimal – just to save some time. The souls system to limit the spam is interesting at first…until you find a way to constantly regenerate souls, hence enabling the mindless spam. The strategy is just as valid in higher difficulty levels – I played on Intense. Also, for some reason, Namco just loves Sakuraba. His music is more bland than the dungeons themselves. How has he been allowed to just phone it in for decades? Can the dungeon music PLEASE introduce even a modicum of tension or urgency? The bland dungeons need some help and the audio isn’t helping!!! Therefore, your mileage may vary. If you value interactivity over anything else in games, then this is probably a pass. If you have some tolerance level for mind-numbing gameplay, then it could be worth a shot. If you’re already a Tales fan…well, we’ve already gotten used to how mindless these games can be, right? I’ve spammed Indignation in Phantasia and Tidal Wave in Vesperia, myself. However, what makes Berseria stand out a bit more is the sting of missed potential. The new artes system in Berseria promotes the idea of chaining any given arte into another. However, coming up with the optimal combo route didn’t feel particularly engaging. How do you make a system that’s so CONCEPTUALLY flexible but leads to spamming in practice?! As I finished the game, I felt that this was an overall net positive experience. The emotional catharsis of the ending left me reflecting on all the characters and their respective struggles. When I reflect on this game in the future, I’ll look back on it with fondness, especially if any conversations about the characters come up. However, because of the gameplay, I don’t think I’ll have a strong desire to replay it.
[h5]TL;DR: Recommended only for the story and lore. Play at the easiest difficulty and auto all battles with the tbfix mod. Or just watch it on YouTube. The battle system only feels good when playing against bosses.[/h5] The main story is ok. The side stories connected to it are very interesting. But I don’t like the ending, and some of the side characters’ conclusions are meh. I kinda like the short VN skits. I like the world lore concept. If you really want to play fast, I suggest installing the tbfix mod. You will get an overall speed-up when you change FPS from 60 to 30. Make sure to turn it back to 60 FPS before quitting. It only works if your game starts at 60 FPS settings. I experienced 3 crashes so far after boss fights, probably because of tbfix. The default move speed and battle speed feel too slow for me. Each equipment piece has mastery EXP skills that you gain through battles. The more mastery you gain, the easier the game becomes. Good thing it is not linked to equipment enhancement. Equipment enhancement is really annoying, especially the random abilities gacha. There are exclusive abilities for each equipment piece that are also unlocked at random enhancement levels. Dismantling results are also based on each equipment’s random abilities.W T F. Materials being capped at 99 is a problem. The buying, selling, and dismantling process/menu is very bad in this game. After several equipment masteries, battles become easy and you can turn on auto-battle. For mob fights, I auto-battled for 3/4 of the game at the highest difficulties possible (Hard -> Intense -> Chaos) while speeding up the game. There are a few tough bosses that make you suffer on Chaos difficulty. All the auto-battling made me feel like the battle system is unpolished; they should’ve just added a skip button lol. Mini-games exist just for costumes/cosmetics. There is variety, but not all are fun. Some cosmetics are indeed charming. The EX Dungeon post-game allows you to farm mats and new equipment, plus extra costumes and events. You're a masochist if you play this dungeon on Chaos difficulty. I don’t like that there is a Dire Foe Boar you can defeat at the start that changes your whole mats/equipment gain for the entire playthrough. I had no idea it existed until near halfway through the game, when I triggered the first Dire Foe. So cringe. There are a lot of flashbangs after battles, warps, traps, and cutscenes.
