Bastion

Bastion is an enjoyable game, and it’s fascinating to see it as Supergiant Games’ very first title. It's also short (4 hours). You can clearly spot the early foundations of what would later become Hades, especially in the combat flow, upgrade system, and overall presentation. The game is strongly narrative-driven, which I really liked, although it’s sometimes hard to fully take in all the dialogue since you’re often fighting while the narration continues. Combat is fun and flexible. The different weapons all feel distinct, and the recommended setup of one melee and one ranged weapon. Weapons can be upgraded using materials you find during your travels, which adds a satisfying sense of progression. The spirit system (passives) combines nicely with the shrine, allowing you to tweak difficulty and gameplay to your liking. The music is also very nice. The only thing that didn’t fully click for me was the floating worlds setting, but that’s purely personal preference and doesn’t take away from the quality of the game.

Played this years ago and realized I never reviewed it. This is a great game with excellent music that I semi-regularly listen to on Spotify. Bastion is more or less required reading for people who consider themselves enthusiasts of the games industry.

Great game! Really fun mechanics, upgrades and maps Story is unique aswell. I reccomend playing it if youve enjoyed games like Diablo or Cult of the Lamb.

It’s a lot better when it works. (If in full screen it freezes a ton) It’s got some serious charm, better music, a fire theme with the whole fantasy mixed with western, and it’s overall story is pretty good. I just wish there was a bit more to see about the universes past and such. It has the two decisions at the end one I didn’t have to think about but the last one was actually really hard. It’s a rather short game but it still works nonetheless. It’s a fantastic game but I do think that 15 dollars is a bit much for an older and shorter game such as this. I got it on sale for 3 dollars and I would recommend doing the same.

Bastion is a beautiful action RPG with great music, smooth combat, and an amazing narrator. Short, fun, and memorable. Highly recommended.
