This review contains Endgame Mentions and Spoilers. 📜
Additionally, I have all the game's achievements and cleared on Very Hard mode. 5/10 - It is utterly disappointing what Bandai is doing to the SAO IP. Two SAO games released in a row and both are flops (the other being Fractured Daydream). It's becoming clear that because the IP is so large, Bandai thinks they can put less effort. Basically pulling a Ubisoft and their AC IP; has great games at first, but now the quality is just horrid.
Pros ✅
Environment - Despite the limited areas you can traverse at any given moment, the quest areas are generally gigantic enough to where it isn't immersion breaking. Outside of dungeons being copy pasted, the open world of floors 1 and 2 surprisingly had their own distinct feeling to each zone in them. I was expecting to see the zones copied at the beginning to a later zone on the same floor, but there were none like that. For example, Floor 1 (forest) had zones in it that have different land shapes and sizes, as well as having a sub theme like swamp, mountains, and farmlands. Combat - This game is loosely put together with the coding, but it unironically makes the combat have interesting strategies and mechanics if you try to experiment with it. At first glance the combat is basic, but learning what you can animation cancel helps immensely. I turned the slow-hitting 2 handed axe into a slapping machine where it absolutely melts all enemies by attacking faster than most weapon types in the game with the use of animation canceling. I tried the other weapons and they also have some forms of animation canceling. To start with the basics of ani canceling in this game, I recommend trying to see what you can weave your jump and guard buttons into when you're doing your damage rotation. This is just scratching the surface, but I can see the speedrunning side of this game to have cool techniques simply due to how much they overlooked the interaction of skills, items, and controls. Enemy Variety - I heard a lot of negatives about the enemy variety and how they're reskinned, but I believe that it's fine because lots of them have different attack patterns that you have to respect in Very Hard. The variety and amount of different enemy ai code in this game is no different than other RPGs like Tales of Arise, Diablo, or even Terraria, but you don't see people complaining about that as much in those games. Music - The music ties in well with the environments and boss fights you encounter, especially the fights in the Sanctuaries. Cosmetic Gear - After finishing a side quest, you unlock the ability to equip armor as cosmetics. While the dye options are limited without third-party mods, I appreciate that it's free to dye armor to test what looks nice in the open world.
Cons 🛑
Story Building - Too generic. It's your typical school students that have been given a burden of saving everyone/the world and the task is too much to where they're stressing out and doubting if they are ready. They couldn't even make the last dungeon of the main story quest to be different to send your audience off with. Now, the final moments of the game you'll remember are copy pasted dungeons and Iori glazing you at the end by simply nodding your head in silence throughout the whole journey.. Endgame - There is practically no endgame. After you beat the main story, there's a postgame, but it's extremely shallow. The game wants you to farm copy pasted dungeons for endgame equipment stones before you fight the super boss. However, if you're good enough you can just go to the boss almost immediately like I did and kill it to see the true ending. Afterwards, there's nothing to do beside doing the copy pasted dungeons and farming achievements. They give you zero reason to run around the floors after you complete the one-time quests for them. FPS Drops - Of course this issue can vary amongst people, but unfortunately I had the short end of the stick here. While my specs were over the recommended, I was coming across issues where certain weapons and partners cause severe memory leak issues, which leads to low FPS. For some reason, the issue only happens during exploration, but not in town or boss fights. There's also FPS drops if you take the powerup orbs too fast when you're doing the postgame dungeons. Towns - Has usual NPCs, but that's it. Overall, it feels empty and incomplete as nobody in the Towns actually talk. They couldn't even give speech bubbles at minimum for the wandering NPCs here. The game is single player with an MMO theme, but it doesn't have the MMO theme at all. No Co-op - Currently this game has no co-op. Added with the weak story telling and towns issue, it feels lonely going through the game at times. They said they may add co-op later, but for now this is what you get. Character Creator - One of the most barebones and visually misleading creators I had to experience. It's so easy to be mislead by the lighting in the creator that your character ends up looking like some creature in the actual world. On top of that, you have to play through the story that takes anywhere between 90 minutes to 8 hours to get to the character creator and you can't go back to change your character without the use of third-party mods. On day 1, I decided to restart my whole game save because I couldn't stop laughing at how bad she looked during cutscenes. Walking Simulator - Despite what I mentioned about the Environments being visually appealing, they don't give you a fast way of traversing around. This forces you to build Sprint Speed on anything you can to compensate, but at times it can still feel like you're exploring at a snail's pace. This is worse when you get further into the late game where the zones become more complex with different elevations and paths that force you to backtrack a lot for 100% completion. Repetitive Quests - They had zero creativity for quests. For almost all 80+ quests it is a go through the zones/dungeon enemies, then fight a boss at the end. The only quests I can think of that didn't follow this were the 3 short quests from Silica and the Illfang floor 1 raid where you play the role as the background character. Also, the boss fights are too predictable. It's a boss with or without elites at the start. While the bosses themselves have different patterns, almost all of them casts a shout at specific HP intervals that prevents you from casting more skills and spawns elites. Bad Gear Descriptions - Besides the endgame gear stones, the regular gear is so confusing and gives a headache for players that want to optimize their loadouts. All gear comes with a unique effect, but the game doesn't provide specific values it provides, making it hard to determine if the gear you're looking at would be effective at all. You are forced to test every gear to see the percentage values it contains. When reading the already useless descriptions, it also auto scrolls the text box if it's too long. You have no way of scrolling the text box, which makes it frustrating to read. Weapon Selling - In this game, you can optimize your weapons to make it powerful. However, the game punishes you for doing this. Once you have too many weapons, you have to click each one in your inventory one a time to sell them. Furthermore, you can only sell up to 20 weapons at a time, which adds to the time it takes to get rid of all your useless weapons. Having to sell thousands of weapons with this system is an awful experience that encompasses about 1-2% of my total playtime.
Final Remarks
I hope a better developing team takes over the SAO IP for games in the future. This is not what this IP and it's fans deserve. Get this game on a discount.

Play the demo, and wait for the game to go on sale. Don't expect a masterpiece. The full game is exactly the same as the demo. If you want to do what you did in the demo for 25+ hours to see the story through, it's worth it. The story is fine, but doesn't feel complete in the base game. Hopefully the DLCs flesh that out. I will return to the game with each DLC to see how they continue the story.
