Long, long ago, there was an ancient kingdom called Ys which prospered under the auspices of two heavenly Goddesses. Over time, the kingdom came to be known as Esteria, and its divine history was largely forgotten by all but the descendants of those who once preached the Goddesses’ will.

A nice classic JRPG game
Good piece of gaming history. If you consider this game is from 1988 and most of the time only the graphics were updated and not much of the gameplay, then it is a true classic. The western audience only got the chance to play it with the TurboGrafx Version in 1992 and only on CD. Considering only 500.000 units of the CD-Hardware were sold worldwide and most of that in japan you can guess how rare this game was in english at it's time. So we had to wait till 2008 for an english Version. I played the 2013 Steam Version and i liked it very much. 120FPS and very good 2D artstyle. I thought to myself: why is the music this good? Then I found out: Yuzo Kushiro did ít! Man I love the music this guy created. So is it a masterpiece by todays standards? No. Is it fun? yes! Downside: You have to consider it is quite hard without a guide. If you don't use one you will get lost in mazes and don't know were to continue sometimes. But it's still fun even if you use a guide.
I was honestly expecting basically the exact same game as the first ys but with different dungeons and characters, so I was surprised to play a game that improved upon its predecessor in virtually every way. The leveling is wayyyyyyyy more balanced, the bosses are (mostly) pretty good, and the addition of magic really gives the combat that extra dimension that it needed. Some of the archaic design elements found in the first game are still present, but toned down for the most part. Also you can actually leave the final dungeon in this one, and there's no god awful dark fact fight. So yeah its pretty good.
:)

Like i said in YS I: I LOVE IT
really good action rpg
Enjoyed the story and magic system was fine overall. Except for the bosses! Ys1 the most memorable parts were the boss fights. They were pretty meh in this game with most bosses only able to be damaged via magic An autosave feature would be highly appreciated
