About
Lost in Fantaland is a Roguelite game with deck-building at its core, deeply integrated with board-game strategy mechanics.

You will choose one of six unique characters and embark on a randomly generated adventure. Use your creativity to build your deck, collect a wide variety of items and artifacts, defeat enemies, and uncover the secrets of this world!
You can combine and play multiple cards at once! Build your unique deck and wipe out enemies in one swift move!
Each character has their own unique deck and artifacts! With over 300 cards and 100+ artifacts, every game offers a fresh and exciting experience!

Randomly generated chapter maps combined with randomly generated battle scenes make every playthrough a new adventure!
After completing the normal difficulty, you can unlock Ascension mode, offering progressively tougher challenges: mutated enemies, special weather conditions, and more powerful new bosses.

Players earn Soul Orbs from each battle and can use them at the start of the game in the Soul Orb Shop to purchase services. These not only help characters grow but also unlock global rules, making the adventure easier.

slay the spire with a final fantasy tactics skin
I have mixed feelings. It took me about 5 hours to beat the game on my first playthrough, and it wasn't very challenging. The first time you play, you are allowed either easy mode or normal mode, and I chose normal mode which was the hardest I had available. It was a kind of cute and amusing game- I wouldn't necessarily say its not a good game for the price, I just feel like I kinda coulda done without it. I don't really feel the need to spend anymore time in this game if its not going to be very challenging, or if the only way to make it challenging is to keep playing with the same loadout so I can try ascension mode, without getting to try the other characters. I've played so many roguelites like this that I kind of have a hard time recommending one I only really enjoyed for 5 hours, even if it was really affordable. I really am kind of on the fence as to whether I regret purchasing this for just under $10.00, as I kind of had fun, but I just know there are other games I could have gotten more meaningful time out of. I'd give a thumbs sideways if it were an option. If you're interested in playing it, maybe just go ahead and give it a try if its cheap enough. The art is nice I guess.
As a FFT:A fan I am extremely disappointed. The gameplay is literally just Slay the Spire. The addition of movement doesn't add anything to the gameplay because you only control a single character. There is no strategizing or team synergies. Just gradual random deck building and deciding what you do with your hand every turn. You discard your hand every turn so you can't think about what your next turn or two turns will be. Each individual battle is quite easy because you are meant to lose by being whittled down over the course of a run, until maybe you hit a boss. If you own Slay the Spire, I don't even see why you would play this. You might think "Hey, maybe there is some narrative going on to make it worth playing. Story. Characters." No. It starts out as a generic isekai for about 5 seconds and then you find out all the characters are basically "shopkeeper" and "tutorial giver" and have no personality and simply tell you game mechanics in a vaguely in-character way. You may like it if you don't like how difficult Slay the Spire is but still wish you could enjoy it.
It's definitely something that requires you to go through many runs to learn/improve on the cards to use and to learn about the the enemy move sets. Things I appreciate or find helpful: - the icons above the enemies and right-clicking gives a detailed description about its moves - clean interface; art and music is great - a good variety of enemies and skillsets, interactive items/effects on board - being tile-based adds in to the layer of strategy with the deckbuilding mechanic I don't know if others may have experienced similar bugs that I did: - when sometimes muting the audio, I'd still get audio playing of some sort (sfx but no music) - when changing the right click to quick deselect, you can't use the spacebar to play cards and instead need to click on the enemy (even if it's the only one left) Some things that I think might improve my experience: - the reset feels contradictory to the purpose of it being roguelike (maybe just my preference) - more variety of special events, most of the time I get enemy encounters - add hotkeys when transitioning in between reward screens/shops etc Fun game for rougelike suckers like me.
For people new to the genre(s?), it's alright. The game has a pretty clear explanation, making a game mixed of 2 complex genres rather more approachable. Not recommended, especially for my fellow rogue-like and tactical games gamers with 300+ hrs in the genre. (Yes, I've won at least a run with each class and each sub-class before writing this review.) ___________________ Gave it an overall thumb down despite wanting to like it because my experience with the game is rather mid. If there is a word to describe this game, it's 'painfully average.' Everything from playable cards, enemies, artifacts, and consumables is at most slightly stronger or slightly weaker than the baseline. The progression is stalely gradual, no power spike, no 'that one card' or 'the artifact' that would alter the whole playthrough and thought process behind a run. So, despite having multiple classes each with their own unique mechanics, all playthroughs roughly feel the same. Beating the game faster is not crucial or more rewarding than stalling the game forever. There is no high or low, neither dread nor hope. And when nothing is at stake, winning doesn't feel that much rewarding. Again, it's not an outright bad game, if there is no better game, I'd play it.
There are so many bad cards in each of the classes that you don't EVER want, that sometimes you cannot build a good deck. When this happens you just have to suffer and waste your time and it becomes not fun. The same thing happens with the artifacts (Items you gain that give you passive special effects to your abilities or game mechanics) that you are forced to take that sometimes do NOTHING for you. Really sucks at the end of the game when you use a large chunk of the Artifact currency to create one that doesn't do anything. I don't mind RNG but to just get a Brick choices after Brick choices in a bad Gotcha Game is not fun.
Don't buy at full price. Just what you think it is. Minimal content
My only complaint is there isn't more for me to binge. More classes to play with, more acts to run through, more game modes to enjoy. I'm not sure if it's a translation error or not, but the ending feels so... indefinite. Like there could be more. If you like tactic based RPG's or deck builders, it's an easy get. I hope this doesn't stop getting updates, but even if it did it was a fun time.
