Twisted Tower

AAA studios are remaking their games. Smaller studios are being contracted to remake and remaster games. And small dev teams are make retro games. Everybody wants to go back, I guess. So we have the 10,000th entry in the retro shooter category. Not fair to call it a boomer shooter, because it's more in line with an Xbox / 360 game than something like Doom or Quake. It's fairly straightforward, simple gameplay, basic mechanics, intuitive and fun guns. The combat encounters are less organic than a boomer shooter, instead it's largely getting trapped in an area while enemies spawn in waves. It works well enough. There's a story here, though I can't imagine anyone getting excited over it. A final boss that's kind of lame. Low enemy variety and some movement tech that often feels unnecessary. It's missing something, some kind of secret sauce, some final touch, something that would really elevate it to a higher level. But despite that, despite the repetitive combat encounter, despite the uninspired level design, it manages to be fun. It's very short, and it offers some replayability, but I would probably still list this in the C tier of retro shooters. But, you gotta pass the time somehow.

i love the game..good game to play on the side if you are playing a really long rpg that you spend 80 percent of the time grinding i will say the plot was easy to predict

Pretty fun shooter. At some points enemies would spawn in unfair spots and those moments were annoying, but overall I enjoyed it. Worth the price I'd say.

I think the main thing that stood out to me about Twisted Tower is getting to have 10 guns - one for each number key (plus grenades!). A lot of multiplatform releases gave up on that trend because of console D-pads having only 4 slots. But I always liked resource managing between many ammo types to best deal with enemies near, far, and around corners. There's a good variety of enemy types, and I felt an appropriate level of challenge on Hard difficulty. You might run into arenas where you feel worn down without many health items, but often you can clear rooms with little damage if you know what's coming and can prep with some heavy ordnance. The story was at first pretty interesting, I wouldn't say it stands out well upon finishing it. Supposedly, the game does develop some NG+ / rerouting features on a second go, but don't expect a Nier Automata second-run twist. It's also a bit limited in playtime, but I enjoyed my time with it; didn't even realize I'd finished it so quickly.
