This is a tepid thumbs up. Dead Space 3 is wildly different from the first two entries - this one is much more action focused and feels like a generic shooter rather than an atmospheric horror game. The new weapon crafting system is overly complicated and easily broken. There's too many humanoid enemies rather than necromorphs. The audio logs don't auto play while you walk around. If you're a fan of the series I'd say buy on sale for less than the price of a fast food meal. There are achievements and I had no issue playing with an Xbox controller. EDIT: Changing this review to a thumbs down. The game crashed on me and corrupted the save file forcing me to start over from the beginning. Not doing that - do not purchase this.
it might be the weakest in the trilogy, but it's still a dead space game. hardcore fans will appreciate it.
After playing Dead Space 2 and being completely blown away by it, my expectations for Dead Space 3 were sky high. It didn’t take long for me to realize this felt like the direct-to-video sequel of the trilogy. Even though it’s running on the same engine, everything feels a little cheaper. The ragdoll physics seem more chaotic, the atmosphere isn’t nearly as strong, and the weapon crafting system just didn’t work for me. One of the things I loved about the first two games was strategically dismembering enemies. Here, it often feels more effective to simply stack damage and shoot everything until it falls over. You can still cut limbs off, but it no longer feels like the core of the combat. I originally played Dead Space 3 when it launched and figured maybe I was being too harsh. After giving it another shot all these years later, my opinion really hasn’t changed. The co-op focus is another annoyance. If you’ve got a friend to play with, great. If you’re playing solo like me, you’ll constantly run into doors and areas that require a co-op partner to access. None of it is essential, but it’s still frustrating knowing content is locked behind having real friends. The one thing I can’t criticize is performance. Dead Space 3 runs beautifully on Steam Deck. High settings, 60+ FPS, and no issues whatsoever. It’s every bit as smooth as Dead Space 2. If you’ve never played Dead Space 3, I’d honestly say keep it that way. Play Dead Space 1 and 2 instead. Trust me. Or don’t. I’m just a stranger on the internet.
This game is genuinely ass. I see why people hated this ♥♥♥♥. Story is abysmal, somehow visually looks worse than the previous 2 entries, the character assassination of isaac and ellie is super unfortunate. Was clearly designed for coop with single player as an afterthought, or maybe they want me to buy one of the 25 DLCs/micro transactions to perform better? Late game on hardest difficulty is like pulling teeth, enemies become so bullet spongey and spawns are some of the worst i've seen in a game EVER. Most encounters are in a room the size of a coffin with 4 spawners on each corner of the room, im getting my ass beat over here... but yknow skill issue i guess
This is more of a neutral recommendation. It's not as bad as its reputation suggested, but I wouldn't call it a good game either. If you like DS1/DS2/DSR and this is on sale, give it a shot. If you already hate it before the 2h refund window, you'll probably hate the rest of the game too. The weapon crafting system is decent, but they really like to stack a ♥♥♥♥ ton of monsters in every room and it gets super repetitive and boring after about mid-way through the game. The story is terrible, especially if you play solo where Carver is really out of place.
There is no end to horrors...
boot up game, afk two hours, uninstall, go to points shop
Weakest game in the trilogy. The weapon customization mechanic is cool, but it clashes with any attempt at making this a suspenseful game when I can build a mini-gun very early on that applies Stasis with every shot. Very unbalanced. The weapons are either ridiculously overpowered or pathetically weak, which, combined with the enemies being way too fast, gives me even less reason not to use the overpowered ones. You either die trying to engage with the dismemberment system or just aim in their general direction and shred them. The romance plot was garbage. Ellie's character was butchered and doesn't even feel like the same person, and her boyfriend is written just to be hated, no depth whatsoever. The second protagonist shouldn't even exist. He's just there, with some weak backstory that I forgot as soon as I heard it. Every other character exists only to die. They do nothing, have no wants or motivations of their own, and are just background noise. This game has some good ideas, but a lot of bad working against them. But honestly, the main reason I decided to leave this review is that, even if it's a bad Dead Space game, it's still fun if you ignore everything else and treat it as a third-person shooter with monsters. But, to my surprise, when I decided to play it, I was suddenly demanded to show my ID or do a face scan just to keep playing a game I had already bought and played for hours. If you don't want your most personal information collected and used for who knows what, don't buy anything that demanded this kind of verification. Don't trust any company that demands it and locks you out of a product you already paid for. I hate even having to leave a review like this, don't buy this game it's not worth it.
First time I played it, its not that bad. Its definetly not studio closing bad. Yes, some of the writing is dumb, there are some shootout sections against humans but those are pretty short, there are some generic zombie-like necromorphs but i dont think its overused, and these can be really fast too. The most infuriating thing about this game for me the ending is in a DLC, but thats probably EA's fault. The story is padded a bit too much for my liking. Also huge plus the campaing is available solo, and you dont have to babysit a bot like in RE5. If you want more Dead Space action, go for it, if you want an actual horror game then you should avoid the Dead Space franchise anyway.
