This game has a lot of potential but the end product feels like a bad asset flip. Clunky and ugly environments, bad controls, but deep down a good game is hiding somewhere. It just won't come out. If they had a few more months to work on the game it would probably have been great.
I received the game for free around release but never really played it... It stayed almost unplayed in my library because there was no mouse and keyboard support at launch... After few months they finally added mouse/kb support but now the game start in chinese so prepare to go trial and error in menus to set it up in English. Same kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for the keybindings setup, it's an absolute mess, almost gave me an headache for 15 minutes... Well after managing to play for few minutes i can say that all this tinkering was a waste of time because the game is garbage. The controls are unresponsive, graphics are terrible and the game is full of bugs. The camera glitches out control almost all the time, making it almost unplayable. It also runs poorly, lot of framedrops for no reasons. Avoid, do not buy until it get patched, if ever but i highly doubt it'll get improved... If it looks interesting to you and your the tolerant type of person i'd say maybe give it a shot if the price goes -60%/70%. Touhou Mechanical Scrollery looked interesting and had potential, too bad it ended up being a turd.
Rating 2.5/10.

I will edit or delete this review if things get patched.
Here's how you play this game. 1- pick Marisa. 2- equip any book that has as its spell card "Love Sign - Master Spark" 3- Use focus mode (Y on xbox controller) to fire a laser that charges your spell card. 4- when spell card gauge is full, try to get a little bit of shot guage and then activate spell card. 5- go back into focus mode. Your laser is now BIG LASER. This game is good, but rough around the edges. The core loop of the combat is that close-range dodging attacks builds your shot guage , often much faster than melee attacks. The shot guage is consumed to shoot back at enemies, charging your spell cards. Your spell cards then clear the screen of bullets and do some funny stuff, sometimes lots of damage - I haven't figured out all their mechanics yet. Once you settle into the rythm, you start to view enemy bullets less as a danger and more as a resource so you can use style on enemies harder - a great feeling. I've mostly played the game on Hard mode, even for first clears of stages. After clearing a stage you get parts, which can upgrade weapons. If you've played monster hunter this is familiar to you. There's unlockable stages, some of which have little bits of story. Live2d models are a bit off sometimes (Marisa's elbow...), but it's not like doujin games haven't had worse. The bad. The inventory screen to sell things to the shop is hell to navigate on a controller, which is the correct way to play the game. Sometimes the game doesn't detect a controller, which can usually be fixed by disconnecting and reconnecting the controller while the game is on, open, and the foreground window. Running into terrain can be troublesome. No major performance issues I've run into, though. Reimu and Marisa have some differences aside from their weapon/spell card selections. Reimu's unfocused shots home while Marisa's don't. Reimu can cancel a dash by pulling back on the control stick while Marisa has to do the full toggle. It's fun. There's a great core. I'd love to see this kind of idea expanded on and polished up; the feeling of "you're shooting at *me*?" as you i-frame through a wall of danmaku and then fire off a master spark at a giant bird is great.
With the recent update with key binding, this is worth getting. there's a few bugs here and there and I can't really go into menu when clocking (esc) key so I guess we're stuck in there OwO PLAY THE GAME IN BORDER MODE IF YOU WANT TO EXIT (Autosave enabled) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Those afraid of the requirements of the game, I'm currently on Ryzen 7 with a strix 1080ti doing just fine with 60.1fps and very quick loading screens. CON: Only con is this game doesn't have super ultrawide support (32:9 ratio) for ultrawide thicc bois like me. fullscreen just overscales the entire game. so far I'm loving this game the tag on (full controller support) means you'll most likely need to bind the hell out of it, just stick to keyboard and mouse tbh PRO TIP: the game starts in Japanese so if you want to have english then use the up, down arrow keys and click the (second box) which is (settings) then click your (enter) key for it to toggle (english language)
Weak game, very repetitive, weak gameplay
Bland, difficult to control, and generally not very good. An admirable fan effort but not a finished game.
