Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

Medieval II is the best Total War has ever been. The little details are everything- visual armor upgrades, infantry & artillery reloading animations, general personalities, and more like it give the game such a strong identity. 10/10 Game.
after 15 years of gameplay i figure ill leave a review. good game.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 7: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I got this game for "free in 2026", why should I or anyone else bother with a review for this 20 years old game now? Well that's what I'm about to tell you because this isn't really a review but just telling you the state of things about this game in the mid year of 2026 because the game has got another big "life expansion support". Firstly I own the game physical DVD disc from 2006 which is the original release, but I never registered it on steam, not back then and also not during the (mid) 2010s , and oh I also never owned the actual Kingdoms expansion, so in the 2010s when the modding has generally moved into Kingdoms to be required for most of the mods I used the unofficial version of it. Why am I telling you this? Well because after those era the steam version of the game and it's expansion got merged inti one as the definitive edition, but I didn't pay any attention to it also partly due to my lost of interest in the franchise, but then to my surprise earlier this year I just randomly decided to I entered my disc keynto steam and voila they gave me the definitive edition despite only owning the original game. Then comes the bigger surprise when I found out that for both Rome total war and Medieval 2 total war, there's this big community made game engine overhaul mods called REX and M2EX respectively that have done wonders to both games, now the game can actually run at hundreds of frame rates in modern gaming PC and then they add many modern features from more recent total war games baked into the engine like modern camera style, you can now rotate the campaign map in RTW/M2TW like with modern TW games, that ranged units can have their actual fire range indicator visible during the battles, they also supposedly fix some of the old AI and animations issues etc... But the biggest thing about it is 2 things : 1. You can run already existing mods on top of REX and M2EX, so yeahnyou can run LOTR mod on top of M2EX mod with absolutely no need to update the old mods (at least the biggest and most well known ones). 2. The claimed to have broken many of the old engine hardcoded limitations for the mods like the maximum factions count, maximum provinces count, maximum different units count, maximum religions number count etc... so now theoretically nodders cannmake something like medieval 2 total war with a map covering the entire old worlds (from Japan to Portugal for example) with all their factions and units. . In theory, because nobody has actually done it properly yet. So there's a renaissance for this game and Rome, and this is amazing especially with the growing negativity that has risen with the recent M3TW development news where somehow Creative Assembly just keep snatching defeats just like with all their recent historical TW games. So at least we can have this M2EX and their upcoming even more expanded mods than ever before. Intold you this isn't a review of the game, LoL.

10/10 Your honor, I cannot explain why I have over 1500 hours on this one game. And I cannot explain that I played probably more than that pre-steam days. All in all, I do believe I've played this game for over 3000+ hours. The mods are great. The game is great. I like to Crusade/Jihad my heathen enemies. I like to stack the Papal States with bad Popes and assassinate all of the Timurids before they can invade Kiev. The America's Campaign, God tier. Apache supremacy. The theme of the Teutonic Order plays through my earbuds as it lives in my workout playlist rent free. This game is something else. Truly one of the greatest strategy games ever made and I'm so hype for TW:M3.
So immersive, you create a massive story with the actions you take, very addictive. More games should be made like these coz these are the best.
It's an amazing game which I keep returning to from time to time within decades. Even vanilla and Kingdoms are still very enjoyable however for the better experience some incredible overhaul mods are available.
