I was beyond excited when Genki announced the new TXR. I've been playing this franchise of games since the late 90's and this game hits it right where it counts. I do play this on a SteamDeck both handheld & docked to a TV. I've been playing it since pre-release and even the beta was on point. Graphics I give a 9/10, its being on the Deck, there can be some jitters here and there and some AA in the background but nothing that kills performance or the fun. The sounds & music is TXR top tier. I'm glad personally to see a company still tap into its roots. 10/10 The driving is cool, it still has that OG feel from the early 2000's when the games got a big update. Genki could smooth the handling and transitions in the handling just a bit but overall 8/10. Overall for a SteamDeck playable and enjoyable experience, I'd give TXR a 9/10. Its one of the few newer titles thats actually a complete game worth the money.

Great racing game!
Very fun.
TXR 2025 TL:DR It's TXR through and through but unlike 3 doesn't require a Game Shark to finish. Welcome back to the high speed shenanigans of the racing fighting game that is the antithesis of the modern racing game. It's a stand alone, single player, narrative driven, racing game with solid customization, and more! So in order I'm going to go over; My history with the franchise and what 2025 means to me in the context of modern gaming, the graphics, handling, and general moment to moment gameplay, and finally how (as absurd a concept as it is) I think TXR is a game every racing game fan should own. So let's get started, Y2K didn't end life as we know it, the PS2 is on a generational run of clowning the videogame industry and Genki drops TXR Zero in 2001, it's rough but it's not their first entry and fans are delighted by the improvements. It's not the best game they could have made but it breaks through the simulator and arcade racers with one simple shift. It's "Open World" find the racers, flash the high beams at them and the battle begins, and it's HYPE AS HELL! You're never sure when the next racer you flash is going to stomp you because you don't have the power or skill to keep up, the rush when they crash and you pull out a skin of your teeth victory is like defeating a Soul's series boss. Then comes Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 in 2003 and Genki makes sure that no one (except maybe Night Runners) comes close to their concept. Huge variety of cars, tuning options, depth of tuning, visual customization options to make your head spin, and SO. MANY. WANDERERS. You have so many wanderers and they all have unique thresholds to challenge and with a more stylistic art style it STILL holds up. Now I'm late to this party because I've been off the racing side of gaming for a while but 2025 deserves a spot in your library. The number of cars have been trimmed down, the amount of body kit options are small but good choices, and overall I think with the socio-political situations of the time American and other foreign made vehicles were excluded to just avoid any nonsense with licensing or whatnot. This was a pleasant return to the Shutokou Battle series and I want MORE. TXR 2025 is a not insignificant step up in graphics from the previous entry but I think it misses the mark musically, they have some good tracks but the lacking variety and call backs to the ost from 3 make me wish they'd just added all the old OST's and had them as cyclable options. The cars look and feel good to drive stock and the visual modifications make designing the perfect car a lot easier. I do wish there was a way to save livery sets and apply them to another vehicle but I'm not too worried as it gives each vehicle a 'new canvas' feel. The tuning is where this game gets bonkers. It looks like an Arcade Racer, it feels like an Arcade Racer, it SOUNDS like an Arcade Racer, but modifying the settings on your car feels like Gran Turismo. Tighten the shocks, adjust the camber, CHANGING YOUR WHEEL SIZE! Everything effects your car and the game isn't kidding when it says, "Adjust one setting at a time" and makes this process even easier by allowing you to modify most of the settings while at a Parking Area. Fiddle with your settings, jump onto the course and fly around for a bit feeling it out and then hitting another PA to undo the change or make it more intense makes the car feel like it's entirely your creation. Finally the gameplay, TXR 2025 has three major issues as far as gameplay is concerned in my opinion. First, the menus and UI. They're rough, really rough, I see what they were going for but navigating and moving through the menus has been a frustrating point for me when moving around the garage, dealership, perks menus, tuning and livery menus... For the next one someone really NEEDS to work on a more user friendly UI. The moment to moment gameplay is where this title truly shines, once you course in and have your car tuned to your specific needs you go on a tear through the highways of Tokyo and beyond challenging others on the street and in PA's to draw out their team leaders, defeat the team leaders to bring out the boss of the region and beat them to move on in the story. Unlike 3 there are no other courses beyond Tokyo no Nagoya or Osaka but we can hope for update/DLC? Even with the restricted map the various teams and racers make up for it with sometimes over the top customizations (The one fella who modified his vehicle to look like a Hyaku Shiki made me chuckle and getting
the wave drive aura
from winning the race was funny as hell) or just freakishly fast for the model like Devil Road Run (HOW DOES THAT CAPPUCINO GO SO FAST?!!?! AAAAAAAGH!!!) all the way out to 400kmh and beyond vehicles like the S30 Z (no I'm not kidding) the GTR35 is basically a Bugatti and the RX8 clowns the middle game until you get the GTR35 unlocked. If it wasn't already obvious, I'm something of a rose tinted glasses enjoyer, so I may be rather biased with my good vibes from the older games in the series, but I told you at the beginning that this is a title that every racing game enjoyer should own. This game has everything old fans of TXR will find comfy and familiar, new players might find the less flashy Tokyo skyline in TXR to be underwhelming as Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune spoiled us with super vibrant highway sights, but the racing is what you're here for. TXR 2025 delivers tight courses and long straights to plan around, raw power isn't always going to save you. NG+ is part of the game but I do wish they would update the game to allow multiple save files without having to dive into windows to fiddle around with things. OH YEAH!!! I forgot about autopilot. If you want you can turn on autopilot and just use TXR 2025 as a screen saver. All the while building up money and driven distance (great for overnight nonsense). Seriously, this game is a shot of early 2000's nostalgia with some modern flash that is much appreciated but doesn't lose the semi-indie edge that keeps Genki feeling like an Evergreen developer/publisher. TXR 2047 here we come!
best racing game of 2025
Its safe to say i am addicted to this game. If you like highway roll racing, this is the game for you.
Such an awesome game!
Great game, awful sound design. The cars sound very generic and unalive. The shift beeping and menu beeps are unsatisfying. I like the game and will continue to play it but I think the menus and the sound design need a complete overhaul.
