15/100
I genuinely recommend to players to collect as many of the songs as they can for the Jukebox and spend time running around the open zones blasting out the Sonic music, the vibes are immaculate! Just a well-made set of open worlds. Got a bit of a poor reception lately, but the core game is still pretty fun. Could do with some performance upgrades though. Also: I heavily recommend messing with the movement settings. Set Deceleration rate to maximum (makes Sonic stop on a dime), and set air deceleration to off (makes Sonic fly through the air at speed). Tweak the controls just right and you're flying across the map.
People that say this game is as bad as forces and that "06 is a forgotten masterpiece" are just larping the series. This game is great.
very mediocre and has so many flaws After completing this game 100% here's my final review: Fun movement but annoying sections that force ur camera into a certain position, including some enemies that can also force ur camera into a certain position. Snoozefest gameplay & story where it's basically hit roblox game "Sonic speed simulator" and u unlock different maps and do the same ♥♥♥♥ all over again. Horrible & unmemorable level design which I will not miss. The boss fights are very cool tho it makes me feel epic. Also blasting sonic music in game saved the exploration for me. In short : Only buy it if its under 10 euro, remaster sonic unleashed already :)
Constantly locked camera angles, animation locks with constantly restrictive movement, and terrible draw distance keep this game from being great. Its not bad, but its just not worth your time, also the end of the DLC which is the true ending has a MAJOR difficulty spike and forces you to do terribly implemented perfect parry's, was a mostly ok experience until it became a frustrating slog.
Sonic Frontiers

20-26+ hours to complete, Sonic Frontiers is an open world adventure game built around exploration, obstacle courses, platforming and gathering collectables. Sonic and friends discover and crash land on the Starfall Islands, five regions that used to be home to an ancient civilization older than anything they’ve ever known, now just ruins and host to an evil being who trapped Sonic’s friends in a Digital Dimension. While Sonic once again goes on an adventure to free his allies, uncover what was the catastrophic event that abruptly ended the civilization here and try to make nice with Sage, Starfall Islands weirdly hostile sentient AI who’s goals are, apparently, drastically different than your own… probably! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3726074748 As a deeply casual player who’s never finished a Sonic game before, the only other game I’ve played being Sonic Adventure, which storyline abruptly came to a tragic end after I discovered the Chao Garden, I had a great time. Much of Frontiers gameplay is optional, and it simultaneously accommodates both speedrunners and people who’ve never encountered a time trial in their lifetime as there are multiple ways to gain the items needed to progress the storyline, from speedrunning, casual exploration, to fishing them up. The bosses were really fun to fight, the storyline about the first civilization and it’s destruction were pretty interesting and I particularly loved all the music that you could swap out and change anytime. While overall Sonic Frontiers was really good, I do have a couple tips! First, a controller is highly suggested, as while there are very few button mashing events, you can instead rotate the left joystick in a circle if you’re not too keen on carpal tunnel. Second is that this Sonic has various status you can upgrade, and I recommend not maxing them out early unless you want to beat all bosses within twenty seconds, before the music has a chance to play. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3727151771
If you liked this review and want to read about similar games or just support me on my journey of playing my entire Steam backlog, you can join my curator group, Rune's Reviews! Have a nice day! I really wanted to enjoy Sonic Frontiers, but honestly... this game just didn't click with me. The biggest issue is that I found it really boring. There were moments where I was genuinely struggling to stay engaged, and it almost put me to sleep. The open-zone concept sounded interesting on paper, but in practice it felt repetitive and not nearly as exciting as I expected. Another thing that bothered me was the enemy design. Most of the enemies look so bland and generic that they don't even feel like they belong in a Sonic game. Instead of memorable robots or unique enemies, a lot of them look like random creatures you'd find in any other game. They just don't have much personality. The movement can be fun at times, and I can see that the game has some interesting ideas. But for me, those ideas weren't enough to make the overall experience enjoyable. I kept waiting for the game to finally click, and it never really happened. That said, I might still try to finish it at some point. Maybe there's something later in the game that will change my opinion. But based on what I've played so far, I just haven't had much fun with it. Maybe it'll work better for other people, especially longtime Sonic fans, but for me, Sonic Frontiers ended up being one of those games that I wanted to like much more than I actually did.
i dont think there will ever be a game i like as much as sonic frontiers. it was the first game i had followed from reveal to release and i always thought the game looked good even in the ign trailer. i could play this game constantly and not get bored. the music is also absolutely peak every song on the soundtrack is a banger. played mostly on switch where i have about 200 hours and multiple completed playthroughs. i love this game and it is definitely my absolute favorite game of all time.
