this game is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun the ai is pretty ♥♥♥♥ though and has cheating physics
Don't expect this to be Need for Speed Underground 3, that we are all waiting for. It's more like a modernized japanese interpretation of NfSU 1. Get it for 30 bucks and you got yourself a nice game. Don't buy it for more tho. p.s.: automatic shifters have small....
First off, I love this game. Initially I was unsure of how fun it'd be to simply race around a city highway system but there's enough variation in roads along with the unpredictability of traffic that it's quite challenging at times. (Which is good) I grew up playing Gran Turismo, NFSU 1+2 and Midnight Club. But in more recent years I play a lot of rally simulation games like WRC and Assetto Corsa Rally. With that said I really enjoy the way cars feel to drive. They are predictable, fun, and a perfect mix of arcade and simulation. Each car so far feels distinct and full of personality. After about 5 hours of gameplay I was feeling a bit disappointed because the game was way too easy. So I unmodified my car to make it challenging (and fun) again. Just after I had resolved that perhaps I'll have to play this without doing any performance upgrades I faced a few bosses that were quite tough. This and facing two cars simultaneously was a welcome surprise. Then I began stage 2 of the game and found it to have a much better level of difficulty (I actually lose sometimes) and found upgrades to be more necessary. I enjoy facing some rivals and being unable to beat them immediately and having to figure out new strategies. I also really like how slow the game is and that it doesn't allow me to get the fastest cars immediately like Forza. This slower pace nurtures a feeling of connection with my cars like I felt back in the NFSU days. The customization is really good too. Things I hope Genki improves... - Shifting is awkward. In order to shift it must be done backwards compared to driving a real car. This game requires the shifting input either from myu shifter or paddles, then the clutch. If I do it the other way around like real life or every other racing game, it won't register the shift. (clutch then shifting). This is pretty frustrating to me. - I would like to see more realistic performance from rival's cars such that when a Skyline or RX7 appears to challenge me in a civic, that I feel a sense of fear. But all in all I'm very happy with this game. Also works seamlessly with my Moza R5 & sequential shifter setup. Definitely recommend!

top top top
It's a classic, plays like the original
I love this game but starting off this review by saying be careful with your BP. You can thank me later. This is hands down my favorite modern racing game. It has a story that's not super cringe, which is rare for this genre. Tuning your car is the most important thing that you do (especially the gear ratios), and i love that. It also doesn't just throw stupid amounts of cars at you from the outset *cough* horizon *cough*. You actually need to earn your car collection and other progression. My only complaints are that I wish there was a better way to make early game cars more viable late game, and one boss in particular that is downright unfair without (or even with) the meta car for that stage in the midgame. I have restarted this game multiple times (BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR BP), and yet I'm still not bored with it. This is one of those games I know I will come back to replay every year or two. Fingers crossed for DLC or future entries in the series. Just a note that i didn't have a playstation as a kid so i never played the earlier games, so all of my love for this game isn't nostalgia. Also do yourself a favor if you aren't a mechanical guru and look up a tuning guide. there are some excellent ones on steam from user "grey".
Best wangan racer we got on steam rn. however, major stability issues. for example, attempting to add a vinyl to a wing causes it to crash my entire pc.
Very enjoyable & relaxing. Great job developers!
