If you enjoy expressway racing then this game is definetely great, especially if it's on sale. Decent selection of cars and visual customisation, however there's sadly no first person view inside the cockpit, so the bonnet cam will have to do. The names of the rivals and gangs are also really silly, i think the devs just took random english words in hopes to make them sound cool. Other than that it's overall a very fun game.
Don't get me wrong, this game is awesome gameplay-wise; however, it has NO DUALSENSE EDGE SUPPORT! It will recognise it as an external controller. I do have a normal Dualsense controller, which works perfectly fine with the game; however, the game does not support edge, which is infuriating, as my normal controller has stick drift issues. For a game that is released on the PS5, it is extremely unacceptable that it still has no support for Dualsense Edge (which some have already complained about before full release!) Please fix this soon, or you are cutting out some players from enjoying the game!
an absolute amazing racing game especially for those who are huge fans of jdm cars and customization, not only that the racing in this game is so much fun and the way the c1 shutoko was recreated is genuinely amazing. this game feels so much alive it's pretty much like an rpg
MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR SAVES. I wanted to give this game a good review and really wanted to sing it's praises. But the way it handles it's save functions just killed my whole mood. after 50+ hours in the game and so far along in the story my save file randomly corrupted. Just logged in the next day and it was all over... No way to retrieve it through steam's remote storage thanks to the fact this game has only one save slot. I don't know if I want to go through all this again. Idk maybe some time in the future, but this just soured my experience.
After spending about 30hrs in FH6 this past week, racing around Tokyo and tuning all my favorite JDM models, I was really excited to try out TXR. And I am glad I did as this game is very fun to play. The lighting system is especially great. It succesfully captures the mood when riding in a car late at night, looking out the passenger window and seeing the road lights speckling the ground yellow. The game can be difficult at times, but this only heightens the satisfaction you feel when you eventually win a race. The gameplay loop is engaging, progressing at an even pace as you unlock more and better parts to put in your cars. tldr; Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a great arcade racer. It has a solid gameplay loop and looks great graphically. It's a no brainer for fans of the JDM.
I really enjoyed this game! Pure 2000s 'tuner' racing game vibes, with a really unique battle mechanic. Though it's not without its faults. Pros: The basics are covered really well - the game controls brilliantly (I played with an Xbox controller), the car models, handling, engine sounds, etc. are spot on. The atmosphere is excellent, and the Shuto expressway is modelled really well. There is a reasonable amount of variety to the AI driver behaviour which throws up unique challenges. Also, although there is only a single 'track', there is decent variety: long straight sections that let you build up immense speed, as well as a really complicated tight inner loop that challenges your skills and handling. Lots of tuning options, and managing things like tire wear and engine temp add an extra dimension to the battles. The perks system is quite strategic and can make or break battles, particularly at the higher levels. Icing on the cake: the game performed great on my system with no latency even on max settings. Cons: The game loop is ultimately pretty basic, you fight a load of roaming drivers around the Shuto expressway, earn credits to upgrade your car, work your way up to beat all the teams and the bosses of a given tier and then rinse/repeat several times while a "legendary" story plays out. It's quite repetitive and you'll probably end up beating at least 500 rivals over a career, and it's all on the same circuit. Also, the music gets very repetitive as the selection of tracks is quite small. It's good, but after a while you'll want to turn the BGM to zero and play your own music in the background. Other: If you're a completionist, there are several challenges you can only beat if you meet certain very specific criteria (set your licence place to a certain city, have beaten x drivers in a row, etc.) - you can really sink your teeth into this if you "gotta catch 'em all". But otherwise, after you've beaten the core game and you have the fastest car, I'm not sure there's much reason to come back to the game.
