About
The Outer Worlds 2 is the eagerly-awaited sequel to the award-winning first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment (just look at the exciting number of dashes in this sentence!). Time to clear your calendar – get ready for an action-packed adventure with a new crew, new weapons, and new enemies in a new colony! So much newness!
As a daring and most likely good-looking Earth Directorate agent, you must uncover the source of devastating rifts threatening to destroy all of humanity. Your investigation leads to Arcadia, home of skip drive technology, where the fate of the colony, and ultimately the entire galaxy, rests on your decisions—your strengths, your flaws, your crew, and the factions you choose to trust.
The Arcadia colony is engulfed in a factional war, as the Protectorate’s so-called benevolent rule is challenged by the rebellion of their religious order and a corporate invasion. As destructive rifts spread across the colony, each faction fights to control or close them for their own ends. Navigate diverse zones, uncover hidden lore, and shape the fate of a system on the brink!
Build your character with the abilities and choices that reflect your playstyle. The colony reacts to your every move, crafting a narrative that’s yours to own—whether you’re a disciple of diplomacy, an astute strategist, a crusader for chaos, or something different altogether. And yes, you can dumb!
Recruit companions with unique traits, backgrounds and goals. Whether you choose to help them achieve their ambitions or steer them toward your own objectives, your influence shapes their growth (or death), making them an integral part of the immersive story you create together.
Fallout New Vegas.
I think the beauty of this game is how much fun it is when you actively seek out every location and find every quest. Otherwise it's a bit boring. Would recommend for explorers and completionists.
This is a recommended on sale game, at least 50% off. It isn't a bad game but it tries to take itself more seriously and loses the entertaining campy, satire extreme the first game had. There is still some of it but the charm is gone and replaced with stale, simple dialogue choices even among the crew. The crew itself is pretty meh. I ended up sticking with 2 of them 90% of the time and only swapping them for story line specific missions. Combat is easy even with stealth being pretty weak as an option. You get some special items then almost never use them. I actually forgot several times that I even had 3 of them and never used the time slow ability except to get by 2 hazards. I didn't have many bugs like other people have reported so that helped a lot.
Gameplay, graphics, satire, RPG FPS style still holds up from the previous game in the franchise. Story is less immersible but definitely a worthy investment for character development. Little to no bugs, frame generation is phenomenal. HOWEVER, the auto save/ manual save bug is abysmal. Not being able to save your game sucks in RPGs, lost about 2 hours of my life in a full rounded character playthrough due to this. Recurring issue. RECAP: Great game, optimize your settings, and save often/check for the option to do so.
It's a good follow up to the first game. Gunplay and character building feels good. Story is decent, but you have to give into the campyness of the game. A lot of people say the story and dialogue are cringe, but in reality it's just campy, and it has a certain charm to it. Reminded me a lot of old Batman cartoons personally. If you like the first game it's definitely worth playing, but the story isn't a direct continuation of the first game so you can play it even if you haven't played the first. Took me roughly 30 hours to finish my first playthrough. One big critique is that the early game is genuinely a slog at times, since you're pathetically weak and enemies are extremely strong, but that might just be because I played on the hardest available difficulty. The middle game is great with challenging but fair combat, but once you hit late game combat becomes all but trivial. While gunplay feels great and weaponry is varied and fun, the balance and scale of combat isn't great in the early and late game. Outside of that, the game is pretty good. It really doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
Guns are animated really well with fantastic sound design. However some of the really interesting and cool weapons you don't obtain until nearly 3/4ths of the game unless you rush the main quests to get access to new weapons on new planets. The companions are also a good bit inferior to the first games in both banter and also questlines. And the performance is a bit touch and go without FSR or otherwise. Other than that it's a decent game but not worth it unless on sale especially with no word of when DLCs are coming out
Stayed away from this game because I heard it wasn't good, but I've had a blast. One of my favourite RPGs now!
In brief, it's just not worth the full price. The gameplay is much smoother than the first, and the mechanics are pretty interesting, but the story is just... rough. The companion side stories are (mostly) fine, but the main quest is just not that great. I think the biggest problem is that where the first game really leaned well into the satirical aspect, this one struggles to decide whether it's attempting to be a satirical or serious political commentary. Several side quests in particular will involve some pretty heavy topics, only for the ending to be a massive wet fart because the writers didn't want to commit fully to the bit out of fear of making some kind of scathing political critique. It doesn't need to be Disco Elysium, but you can add a little bit of edge, y'know? For all of the narrative annoyances, I did get 60 hours of decent gameplay out of it, with some extremely funny weapons that made combat quite enjoyable. Most of the companions were entertaining, and I do appreciate that at least in some circumstances you could get some funny side dialogue by bringing certain companions on certain side quests. Bringing Tristan along on Niles' quests allows for the opportunity to produce some lines that genuinely made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Grab it on sale for half off and you'll probably get your money's worth. At full price, though, definitely not.
This game is nowhere near worth 70 dollars, I can't believe they tried to charge 80 dollars for it. It has a lot of improvements over the last game, but it is not enough. There's nothing in this game that is bad, but it just lacks the Obsidian special sauce. The story is a lot weaker than a game like Pillars of Eternity, and the action gameplay is not nearly enough to make up for that.
