About
The Demon Rush: Legends Corrupt is an action RPG with fast-paced combat requiring use of strong offensive and defensive mechanics across multiple modes (Story Mode, Endless Dungeon, Onslaught, Conquest, Heist, Boulderball, Naval Conquest, Side Stories, RopeRange, Prison Break, Summoner's Onslaught, Counterintelligence). Fight your enemies up close, use buffs/debuffs/status ailments to gain an advantage, call German Shepherds onto the battlefield, or place effects like tornadoes, fire, water, death forests, black holes and more onto the battlefield.
The Mittu star system enjoyed a long period of prosperity, and was watched over by three powerful beings who shared their unique skillsets and technologies across three worlds for millenia. From out of nowhere, a Demon Army of immense power appeared suddenly and began invading these planets, slaughtering countless innocents and causing fear and paranoia in the godlike rulers of each world. On the planet of Altair, the first spacecraft in Mittu's history has been constructed, with the hopes that its crew can find something in the Mittu star system to end the war against the Demon Army.
The Demon Rush: Legends Corrupt has 12 different gameplay modes:
Story Mode - A story with an ensemble cast dealing with a demon invasion, as well as war and tensions across worlds
Endless Dungeon - Choose a team of 3 and navigate through procedurally generated dungeons
Onslaught - Solo fight enemies in an arena, with the high difficulty adding high-speed cars as hazards
Conquest - Conquer a procedurally generated world map -- recruit monsters, capture and guard territory
Heist - Split into 3 teams (Ground, Recon and Getaway) to secure an Artifact and escape to the Goal
Boulderball - Fight to the death to score the most goals with a giant Boulder
Naval Conquest - Explore the ocean and build up a fleet to prepare for the enemy's arrival
Side Stories - Short stories as protagonists, antagonists and side characters
RopeRange - Acrobatic shooting range that takes place entirely in the air
Prison Break - A party of 3 needs to break out of a high security prison in a week or face execution
Summoner's Onslaught - A version of Onslaught where the player fights alongside their character-specific summon monster
Counterintelligence - Take charge of a nation and utilize military, economy, espionage and alliances against 7 other nations to conquer the most territory within 10 years

I really want to like this game. The strange art style, overwrought writing, and action RPG combat definitely appeal. I liked the fighting well enough, the RPG systems seemed interesting, and I laughed when an enemy effortlessly misted another with his palm. It has the hallmarks of a funny-odd indie JRPG. But it is way too disorienting. It's using orthographic projection with a free-roaming camera that constantly collides with objects, and the environments have no shadow maps, so shifting your view is always an ordeal. Interactables aren't clearly designated and their interaction area is finicky, particularly for doors. Combat is far too fast and the default hotkeys are awkward. Messaging for combat abilities is a minor visual effect on the character and a timer with icon in the bottom right. Music is a single track midi song on loop. And I really hated the blonde guy you start with, whose smug self-obsessed South Park-ian attitude immediately drags down the start of the game, especially since the main character generally agrees with him. Basically, it's lacking all of the considerations necessary to make a game like not awkward to play. I think with some work on smoothing out the mechanical frustrations, it might become a cult hit. As is, I cannot recommend it, and am getting a refund. My suggestions to the developer: 1. Either change the orthographic camera to be at a fixed angle, or make it perspective. If it's a free camera, allow it to phase through solid objects to maintain camera distances. 2. Slow down the combat and improve messaging around ability use, so that it's more readable. 3. Highlight interactables and make using them less finicky (finding the "hotspot") 4. This is more for future games, but hire a musician or use a slightly more complex royalty-free loop. 5. Also for future games, don't make a smarmy annoying guy a main character from the start of the game. We need time to get invested in the world before we can be cynical about it. --- Addressing the developer response: Yes, I only played 0.7 hours. That's more time than 99% of people who have heard of this game are willing to give it; most don't last a few seconds. I think it's fair to form an early opinion on a game to determine if it's worth my time investment to continue. I found that the early game experience here was abysmal, thanks to: awkward camera with disorienting projection and constant collision with props, excessively fast combat with insufficient messaging to the player, poorly-placed DEFAULT hotkeys, an annoying Reddit atheist character the moment the game starts, and repetitive music that sucks. You may consider these "lies" or "false" or "you can edit it" if you want to ignore reality. That's your prerogative. But to get pissy because I didn't play more of a game lacking even the most basic quality of life just to see how - what now seems to be, anyway - the author self-insert is cool actually? To write a long-winded counter-review basically telling me I'm stupid for not playing more of this awful game? I wanted to, and I did, give this a chance. The developer's poor attitude in response to genuine criticism makes me regret that. Very glad I got a refund.
I haven't played a lot of it yet but so far I am enjoying it and plan on playing through the whole story. I think its pretty impressive this was made by one guy and it looks like they have put a lot of effort into it since they have planned expansions for it. So far my favorite alternate game mode is boulderball because it just feels like pure chaos. The combat reminds me of quest 64 which is a huge plus for me. I think the story is fairly interesting and keeps me going with the funny dialogue. I'm pretty excited for the future expansions, to see what naval combat looks like. The fact that there are so many extra modes just makes this a bigger game than it actually is.
Let me say!! I did enjoy my time playing this game. It is, however, a difficult game to recommend. From hard to grasp combat to a somewhat nonsensical autosave feature, this game has a litany of issues. That does not mean, however, that there isn't stuff in the game that's interesting and/or fun. Keep in mind, the following list applies only to the Story mode. I cannot speak for other game modes. Pros: - Game has that classic rpg fun element to it. - Formulaic RPG story (this is a good thing IMO) - Easy to use skill tree. - Fun small comedic moments. - Art and animation style is charming. Gives off the vibes of a 2006 adult swim 3d animated show. Cons: - Combat issues a targetting mechanic ONLY for the NPC's in your party but not for the character you control. - Enemies zip around the battlefield in combat, making actually dealing with them difficult. - Enemy encounters are mostly unavoidable. - There is no clear indication of what is interactable. The page states that "interactable doors are light and non-interactable doors are dark". This rings not true in a good few maps. - Despite having an autosave feature, this does not apply to your progress. It is unclear as to why the autosave exists for story mode. - The story is told through constant exposition given in dialogue heavy cutscenes. Characters are almost CONSTANTLY giving exposition, making the story somewhat difficult to follow. Aside from that, characters will make seemingly nonsensical logical leaps . Overall, while I had fun, I did find a good portion of the gaming experience in story mode to be frustrating. I am, however, excited to see how the developer improves moving forward.
for a low quality game, it has alot, I reccomend it, a attempt was made, and as weird and chatic and confusing as it is, I cannot deny a huge amount of effort went into it, and that is all I can sk out of a indie game like this
