- DOOM TDA: Revelations DLC - ***PLEASE READ IN FULL • IN REGARDS TO TODAY'S STEAM REVIEWS* *DISCLAIMER: Industry and Layoff Sentiments* As we all download and experience what very well may be id Software’s magnum opus, as we all celebrate and cherish the amazing art that has come from the studio, I want to encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect here on what is best for *now* and the *future*. As many of you may already be aware, significant layoffs were executed by Microsoft/Xbox across their gaming division, impacting many studios and talented individuals; id Software was especially hit hard. Giving space for that, I know everyone who loves id’s work and cherishes games as an art medium will feel betrayed by this news, and rightfully so, they should be held to account just like Sony for these absolutely insane decisions in the face of greed and mismanagement. Nevertheless, regarding this DLC and what could possibly be id Software’s last work of art for the foreseeable, please, I am asking everyone not to review bomb this game or even refrain from buying it. Do the opposite, give these developers a high note to go out on, bolster and strengthen their personal brands and résumés, help their image as they move on to pursue their dreams further, and give them the recognition they deserve through a well-earned, positive review. Of course, if you have genuine criticisms or the experience of this DLC fell short for you, then write your review accordingly, but focus on supporting this piece of art for the sake of the developers rather than review-bombing to spite MS/Xbox, that is if your main influence is the layoffs from today. Save the review-bombing for future crusades against these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ parent companies and echo these sentiments in other social spaces. Don’t stop the good work. I will be playing this and returning with my impressions and review on the actual experience once I have completed it. I’ll edit this review and format accordingly. To those who took the time to read this and actually heed the message, thank you, the developers deserve better. Rip n’ Tear.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 4: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 58.43/day in the week to Jul 30 → 59.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

A few hours before the release of Revelations and today Microslop laid off around half of iD Software. I raise my glass to one of the most memorable and incredible trilogies of recent times in our hobby!
A slightly better game than I was expecting, but one that falls considerably short for numerous reasons when compared to the 2016 reboot and Eternal. Also the mandatory ray tracing has a notable impact on performance with no substantial visual benefit in return. The first big problem with The Dark Ages is the sheer lack of combat fluidity particularly compared to Eternal. This game focuses more on blocking and defensive parries for counter-attacking. There is also a lack of elevation and most combat encounters are in flat spaces. Level design is also really lacking for the most part. Weapons are also really boring and most lack punch even with upgrades. You don't really need to quick-swap in this game either as everything feels more simplified and defensive-oriented. Even glory kills have largely been omitted and replaced with basic non-cinematic animations. This is another huge step backwards. Other presentational issues stem from the generic, forgettable and largely unnoticeable soundtrack. There is no Mick Gordon music in this game and what is in place feels like some Temu copycat audio that is extremely bland and fails to elevate what is already mediocre battles. The atmosphere is mostly flat. In a bizarre twist, for some reason the developers have tried to make this game more narrative-heavy with a story and long(er) cut-scenes. Sadly this is another aspect of the game that falls extremely short in quality across the board and is a completely needless inclusion. Despite some major woes, there is still some fun to be had here if you are a fan of the series. Expectations must be kept pretty low though. This is definitely not worth the absolutely ridiculous £70 price point and I would not consider it unless there is a significant deep sale in the £12-15 ballpark.
First of all - be damned microsoft. They fired half of id software - one of best developers in gaming industry. Imo - microsoft should burn in Hell for that right where Doomguy is butchering demons. id Tech is a magnificent engine—not just "one of many," but truly the greatest. It powers the entire *Doom* series, the new *Wolfenstein* dilogy, and the fantastic *Indiana Jones and The Great Circle*. It gives exceptional performance even on old hardware. These fires were likely because of future attempt to force-switch to UE which is easier for generic hamsters. Careful. If you're gamer enough - phrase "DOOM on UE engine" might cause a stroke. As for the game - Dark Ages might be slightly weaker than Eternal (which is not a big deal because its extremeley difficult to get that high). It might be not perfect, or best one in new trilogy, but it's admirable that id actually tried to re-imagine gameplay once more, providing still one of the best arcade FPS in industry with gameplay different in each game. I sincerely hope (yet have highest doubts) that id and industry will be able to recover after that. But for now - i'd like to press F and express immense grattitude to everyone who participated in creating such magnificent trilogy. Goodnight, Sweet Prince
Long time Doom and id fan since the very first game. This was the first video game which I purchased at release in at least 15 years. It was an amazing play through. It had everything I wanted from a Doom game and it recaptured that feeling from my very first FPS experience: Fast, Fluid, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Soundtrack, LOTS of gibs and fun new weapons and mechanics. I know there are a lot of folks that like Eternal better, but this is my favorite of the franchise now. Oh, and it plays great on Linux.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is an absolute disappointment. I remember watching the trailer for this game and being extremely excited to play it. Now that I have played it, I am incredibly disappointed. DOOM: The Dark Ages takes a different approach to the DOOM series, which by itself isn't a bad thing, but it removes everything that made DOOM Eternal and DOOM 2016 so good. It completely strips the high-octane, fast paced, strategic movement shooter aspects and replaces it with.... super clunky movement, a parry that's just there and doesn't actually do anything and tedious non-strategic gameplay. I mean seriously, the guns in this game serve no purpose like in the first 2 games. The only useful gun is the Plasma Gun which you need to get past shields, and that's it. There are no weak spots, no demon mechanics guns are used for like the Mancubus Guns or Cacodemon grenade in mouth move, or anything like that! None of that exists here. You could beat the game with just a shotgun and maybe not even the Plasma Gun if you really tried. There is no incentive to actually swap weapons and swapping is even discouraged, because it takes ages. They also strip the ammo management aspect of this game. I don't think I've ever run out of ammo in this game, when in Eternal you had to actually manage it by swapping weapons and using the chainsaw effectively. Now the new addition... The Shield. It looks cool, but it's also your only defensive option. There are no dashes, no double jumps, nothing to help you defend yourself aside from the shield. The parry is just there. It's a cool mechanic, that is in this game for the sole reason that "parries are cool" and as someone who 100%'d Sekiro, this parry is awful. It slows time, but doesn't let you do anything with that new window and it only really empowers one gun, if you have a specific upgrade and that's it. It's so disappointing. It doesn't stagger demons, it doesn't refill your ammo, it just does nothing. Take the Baron for example, he's got like 5 parryable attacks in a row, and once that string ends you get your opening, whether you parried perfectly or not. The parry itself isn't giving you that opening, it's just there to stop you taking damage while you wait the string out. So you're stuck doing 5 parries in a row just to survive until the game decides to give you an opening anyway. THAT IS NOT FUN NOR ENGAGING. Also you can't rev the shield. The chainsaw upgrade is just cosmetic. Furthermore, the melee has ammo??? And the other melees aside from the Flail are complete trash with no reason to use them. Let's move on to the demons. GLORYKILLS ARE PRACTICALLY GONE. THE THING THAT DEFINED THE FIRST 2 GAMES. In Eternal and 2016 they actually had weight to them, you could even build around them with runes, faster kills, more health back, whatever you wanted. Here they're barely there anymore and there's nothing to upgrade them with. The slayer has basic "finishers" that are just a punch, kick or similar and don't even connect properly and don't feel good. The game made me not want to use the finisher, it was that bad. Now, the demons themselves are.. well, super boring and soulless? They look like copies ran through an AI filter and behave how you'd expect. There are no special mechanics to any of them. No weak spots. No certain patterns. They're just completely forgettable. Introducing armor or shields doesn't help here, but the devs did it anyway. Even early on, the demons are extreme bullet sponges and just not fun to fight, which kinda breaks the game since that's the core thing you'll be doing. Now movement. Super floaty and you feel like a tank, but not in a good way. It's like the doomslayer weighs a ton and is trying his best to run. And the sprint in this game is only in this game for the huge level sections, where it's needed. You can't really use it in combat and can only use it when going forwards. Just awful. The music is more of the same. None of it is memorable, unique or enhances any of the encounters. If I had to describe it, I'd describe it as "generic doom music" and that's sad. Especially, compared to the absolutely beautiful OSTs of the first 2 games. The price tag for this game is way too high for the amount of content it has. Doing everything took me around 15 hours, and if you just rush the main objective you could probably do it in 7-10. And the side content is.... pretty awful. The game essentially forces you to explore the levels thoroughly to get any sort of meaningful upgrades, so rushing it the way I just described leaves you underpowered for the rest of the game. A game should reward exploration, not force it. This just feels like a huge chore. Especially, since the puzzles are "look around, flip a switch and done" or are locked behind keys or keycards, that you can find very close by and have a huge LED marking like it's cyberpunk. Just awful. Performance in this game is also awful. I can run Doom Eternal on max settings without issues, but this game refuses to run smoothly on even the lowest of settings and changing settings barely has an impact on performance. And it's not just me either, this is a complaint I've seen everywhere, even from people running way stronger rigs than mine. It's so sad to see a game, which I was so excited for turn out to be so unenjoyable and so backwards to what the series was going for. I got all the achievements in the base game, but will I get the new DLC? Probably only to get the rest of the achievements, otherwise I probably wouldn't after this awful base game experience.
My first Doom and I had a great time. A hell of fun demon-slaying experience/10
Oh I understand now - Microsoft saw this DLC being developed and thought it was just TOO DAMN GOOD, so they had to gut id Software to make it fair on everyone else making shooters. Got it. Idiots.
What a game! Much darker atmosphere than the last Doom games, (it is the DARK Ages, after all) and can't wait for the DLC!
