Tank Operations: European Campaign

playing in Beta I had fun and enjoyed the game. l won the first operation by destroying enemy forces and installations with artillery and bombers it took quite sometime. Then I figured out how to capture enemy bunkers and installations and use it against them. I don't know if the completed game will let you play the Germans that would be fun. I like and will own the full playable game.

Steam initially released Tank Operations in 2013, but it mysteriously disappeared from the platform for unknown reasons. However, in 2024, Tank Operations European Campaigns was released. I am unsure why the developers opted to recreate the entire game, but I possess both versions. Notably, the original Tank Operations is no longer available on Steam, as evident from the images I posted. Interestingly, the 2013 version received overwhelmingly negative reviews, whereas the 2024 release garnered positive reviews. After playing and comparing both versions, I struggled to discern any significant differences. The disparity in reviews between the two versions is perplexing. Nevertheless, this review focuses on Tank Operations European Campaigns. The game offers a unique experience, where players assume the role of the Americans, commencing with Operation Torch, and landing on beaches with an aircraft carrier, a battleship, and four cruisers. The battleship serves as a transport vessel for tanks, troops, and equipment, while the aircraft carrier houses planes that can be purchased and upgraded. The cruisers engage land units, making it essential to eliminate bunkers and gun emplacements to prevent damage to ships. Protecting the battleship, which serves as the recruitment hub for troops, is crucial. The game spans from 1942 to 1945, featuring impressive graphics compared to the original version. The music, while not remarkable, serves its purpose. I typically disable it, but it is available for those who prefer it. The gameplay is challenging, positioning itself as a beer and pretzels type game, rather than a complex, hardcore wargame akin to Panzer General or Panzercorps. As such, it may not appeal to every gamer, particularly hardcore enthusiasts who may find it too basic. However, fans of the Frontline series may appreciate its similarities. Overall, Tank Operations European Campaigns is a solid game that I recommend for casual gamers. Fans of Panzer Corps may also enjoy this title, making it a worthwhile recommendation. By the way it's only $6 on steam. 6.5/10
