For the price ($2.99)), this is a competent little strategy and tactics, isometric, unit-based, WW2, battle simulator, somewhat like Panzer Corps, etc. I actually like some of the features (the supply truck, etc.) better than PC. You select the difficult (I think there were 3 or 4 levels). There are a couple bugs, one occurs occasionally, when you dig in a tank or armored car unit, it stays stuck dug in and you can't move it any more. And another has to do with supply, but it is cosmetic. You unlock maps as you proceed. The battles are most of the large amphibious Allied landings, e.g., Sicily, Normandy, etc. There are 5 Allied maps (they call them "campaigns", but they are just one scenario, one battle map), and you also unlock a corresponding "Sand box" battle at the same time as you progress. The hardest thing to figure out is how to resupply your units from the supply truck(s). First you can move the truck several times closer to units that need supply. Then click on the supply truck, and any units that have not moved and that need rebuilding or supply (there are two options) will have green numbers over them, click on that unit to rebuild or re-supply it, which ends its turn. You can move the supply trucks some times two or three times and keep doing this. The first 4 of 5 maps have two trucks so it is easy to keep all your units rebuilt and in supply, however the last, large map, only has one supply truck and you cannot purchase one during the battle, so you have to keep the roads clear in your rear so the supply truck can move back and forth behind your line. Like all these games, prep with artillery and air strikes first (enemy AA blocks air strikes), before attacking with infantry. Most armor units can shoot two hexes, so if not otherwise occupied you can use them to also prep an attack. Any unit can clear mines and rarely take damage, just a turn or two to clear the hex of mines. All in all, it is a fun little game, which can keep you occupied over a weekend, not bad for $3.
One of my favourit Developers is FRONTLINE GAMES SERIES. This Dev brings back good old Memories with his PANZER GENERAL and BATTLE ISLE like Series. He made 4 great Games about World War 2 in different Places of this War and also with different Factions. I already played and reviewed 3 of the 4 Frontline Games, so don`t wonder, i used Parts of my other Reviews. Welcome to FRONTLINE: WESTERN FRONT This Time in FRONTLINE GAMES it is the Battle for Europe. 5 Campaigns + 1 Bonus Campaign and 2 Sandbox Cards want to be played by you. Lead your Troops to Victory and free Europe. Like in the other FRONTLINE Games a fine tactical Challenge is waiting for you. Old School Round by Round Maps in Hexagon like in good old Times. Once again, the Graphics are nice done and every unit very detailed shown, so that you have again never Problems to differ them, no matter how many you are commanding. And also here is not every Unit from the about 100 different ones avaible from the Beginning. You need to know, like in the Real War, some came later. But for all one thing is important. Lead them wisely through the Maps and raise them to get more and better Abilities. Know your Units and let them work together to get the maximum Effect on your Way. Make good use of Special Units like Battleships as long as you have them. They will spare you casualities. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2366936941 Fight Historical Battles and use the Tools you have on your Way to Victory wisely. Plan your Strategy and use your Units carefully. With Experience they will raise and are able to get new abilties that will make this Way much easier. Always have an Eye on your Moving Headquarter thgat supplies and heals Units. Loose it and you loose. Protect it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2366936941 The Gameplay feels again like a wonderfull Mix of PANZER GENERAL and BATTLE ISLE, two Games of the Past i really, really like. You move your units Round by Round and have always an eye on the sphere of influence of your Units and of course the Enemy Units. Don`t stumble with a weaker Unit into Artillery Fire. Please not. Also have an eye on your Mission Targets. The Music is again very atmospheric and as someone who really likes Game Soundtracks, i like this one. Well done again. A big thanks to the Dev, who did as a one Man Team again and again an amazing Job. I´m looking really forward for your next Games. Thanks so much. And thank YOU for Reading.
Information / Review English
Frontline Western Front falls into the Simulation / Strategy genre developed by Frontline: Games Series. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2338957995
Gameplay / Story
The Western Front was the main theater of war during the First World War. After the outbreak of war in August 1914, the German army opened the Western Front by invading Luxembourg and Belgium and then gaining military control over important industrial regions in France. The German advance was stopped with the Battle of the Marne. After the race for the sea, both sides dug along a meandering line of fortified trenches that stretched from the North Sea to the Swiss border with France and changed little until early 1917 and 1918. To break the deadlock of trench warfare on the Western Front, both sides tried new military technologies, including poison gas, planes, and tanks. The introduction of better tactics and the cumulative weakening of armies in the west led to the return of mobility in 1918. The German spring offensive of 1918 was made possible by the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk, which ended the war of the Central Powers against Russia and Romania on the Eastern Front. With short, intense "hurricane" bombing and infiltration tactics, the German armies moved nearly 100 kilometers west, the deepest advance by either side since 1914, but the result was undecided. When starting the game, it is immediately noticeable that the user interface is kept simple and you immediately know where to click with the mouse, this makes the whole thing institutional. The gameplay is easy to understand, understandable and the game mechanics are easy to understand because they have been implemented very well. The audio and background noise are well coordinated. I think that in this genre the sound of the vehicles or weapons simply has to be right, because that's the best way to develop a feeling in the situation. Units can only be bought from a pre-made selection in each battle, so you cannot make them yourself. But this is not tragic because you still have to proceed strategically, because you only have a certain number available, this also gives that certain something. Advantages such as digging in, ambushing or using guns should be carefully considered in advance, because each is valuable. Each unit has its advantages and disadvantages, so you should consider which one to buy, because resources can also become scarce. There are a total of 5 campaigns to master and also challenges. Each has to be solved differently and needs its own strategy. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2338958044
Pro
+ Story from back then + lets you immerse yourself in the war times of yore + Strategy landscape with brand new card effects and possibilities + symmetrical resources of the armies + good interface + matching graphic style and background music + several different units are available
Contra
- AI could do better
Conclusion
Frontline Western Front offers you real Historical Units, Maps, Countries and Cities that invite you to explore and that show you the war from a new, sad Perspective. PS: First of all, many thanks to the developer who provided us with this key for the group.
Information / Review Deutsch
Frontline Western Front fällt in das Genre Simulation/Strategie, welches von Frontline: Games Series entwickelt wurde. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2338957995
Gameplay / Geschichte
+ Enjoyable. 2 quid. Much cheaper than similar Panzer Corps series or Tank Battle series. Tactics are required - have arty and AT support adjacent units. Arty can fire counter battery to help chums. As tanks can fire 2 hexes, this means more thought needed the other games mentioned above. Clouds give fog of war - you must first take objectives in orders to clear clouds and let you move into those areas.. Main unit is HQ which must be re-positioned carefully. Supply, reinforce or move... Nice graphics - good to see tanks with infantry round them. - Looks like anyone can clear minefields. No instructions that I could find. (I just jabbed at it and picked up most options easily - but did not need to understand upgrades and so on.) Naval actions feel a little tacked on. Minor cosmetics problems. E.g. it is an Allies game with German scenario options so, when playing the Germans, the turn end picture is allies and vice versa. Win Falaise and get a Brest Fortress victory page. All German unit named 35th Sappers. Only one bug so far. The Germans at Caen Sandbox was lost because 3 of the Allied units were "ghosts" - there but not shootable. Hope there is more in the series!
Good game for a ridiculously low price. You get a lot more than you've bargained for. I actually like this game over Panzer Corps, which often has so many units and uses the same strategies and sometimes dumb or just defensive AI. If you like the Panzer Corps feel, I think you will like this game. It's got some depth and has a "one more turn" aspect to it. Really should be a $15 game. I can list many I have bought for the latter price and been disappointed with. Also, don't forget the latest Eastern Front game by the same devs. I'm going to buy that now. ;)

I am lost in this game. There is no explanation of the combat system and you have no idea who will win and why. If you do not understand even basic mechanics, how you can play strategy game? You know Panzer General from 90s? It was better.
This is strategy boiled down to Frontline mechanics., basically. Use money given, "buy" reinforcements, and have them join the army on the map and engage the enemy. There's some cool period atmosphere with the radio broadcasts. Learning what the proper strategy is for each battle, like what is better against what, the stat numbers for each unit, etc, is where the depth is and gives an air of discovery. (There's no tutorial, only pop-up hints during gameplay). Take it for what it is and you won't be disappointed. The collection is $5-7 on the mobile app store, and that said, this port is actually enjoyable, with the developer seeming like a decent enough guy to support so I'll stand by the purchase. As was said elsewhere, more info on the battles/units from a historical perspective would've been great.
