Another broken pile of crap that is sure to disappoint. From top to bottom this game is completely broken. Not a terrible idea but feels like this was slapped together way too quickly.
Save your money - go buy Panzer Corps.

I will play pretty much any WW2 game on the market. This...is not one of the better ones. There are a lot of reviewers saying that the game is unbalanced, and a couple saying "oh, you're just using the wrong units!" Having spent two hours and plenty of experimentation on the first mission thus far, I can tell you - it's not the units, it's the balance. My biggest issue with the game is actually the extreme lethality - you're annihilating the enemy's units every turn, but they're also annihilating yours, and it's mostly a matter of who can spawn more fresh units onto the field faster. So it gets very grindy, very quickly, as you build a mess of new stacks, hurl them at the enemy's airbase (which is apparently located in a bunker, as opposed to the nice neat (and more accurate) mechanic of Panzer Corps where you roll a tank in and capture it), do a little damage, wipe out the enemy nearby, get wiped out by their counter-attack, lather, rinse, repeat. Because of this, you have no real incentive to preserve your own units - knowing that the next force to come over the hill is likely to blow them away anyway - so you just sort of fling them around mindlessly. Manage supply lines? No need, no one's lasting that long anyway! Which sort of defeats the purpose of a strategy game. Maybe if it were getting more polish, or if there weren't so many better options on the market. But it's sitting in a genre that's already saturated with good titles. No reason to pick this one up.
A Blast from the Past, with a Few Misfires If you've ever looked at a hex-grid and thought, “Yes, this is where I conquer Europe,” then Tank Operations: European Campaign might just be your jam. Designed for strategy enthusiasts who miss the golden days of turn-based warfare, this game dusts off the old-school rulebook and slaps on a digital coat of paint—just maybe not the most modern one. 🎖️ The Good: Tactical Nostalgia at Its Finest Fans of classic war games like Panzer General or Battle Isle will find plenty to enjoy here. The game is unapologetically retro in design, and that’s part of its charm. Each turn feels like a mini-chess match with artillery, where positioning, supply lines, and timing matter more than twitch reflexes. Positive Steam reviews highlight the satisfaction of commanding a diverse army—from tanks and infantry to air support and supply trucks. There’s genuine depth in unit interactions, and planning an encirclement or cutting off an enemy’s supplies is as rewarding as it is strategic. There’s also something endearing about the game's no-frills approach. The tutorial gets you into the action quickly, and once you’re past the basics, the scenarios ramp up in complexity in a way that rewards patience and clever planning. Players who thrive on methodical, brain-burning campaigns will feel right at home. 🛠️ The Bad: Bugs, Bloopers, and Flat Presentation That said, Tank Operations definitely doesn’t roll onto the battlefield without its share of dings and dents. Let’s start with the bugs. Some players on Steam report odd issues—like unresponsive clicks, units refusing to move, or missions failing to register progress correctly. These bugs aren’t constant, but when they hit, they can make your conquest of Europe feel more like an IT support ticket. The graphics and animations are, to put it kindly, utilitarian. Units shuffle around like they're on rails, and battles lack the visceral punch of more modern strategy games. Explosions are less “Michael Bay” and more “PowerPoint transition.” The interface can also feel a little clunky, especially when managing stacked units or navigating terrain. And while the scenarios are historically inspired, the lack of branching missions or dynamic storytelling means you’re mostly going from one rigid objective to another, without much narrative payoff. 💻 Steam-Specific Experience On the plus side, the game runs well even on older machines, making it a low-spec friendly option. It’s a solid pick for Steam Deck owners looking to scratch a strategy itch on the go, and the turn-based format works well without requiring lightning-fast input. Workshop support and modding? Sadly, not present. So once you’ve marched through the campaign, that’s about all there is unless you're replaying for a better score. 🎯 Final Verdict: 6.5/10 Tank Operations: European Campaign is like a museum tank that still runs—slow, clunky in places, but solidly built for what it is. Fans of old-school strategy will likely appreciate the deliberate pacing and battlefield tactics, while others may bounce off the dated visuals, bugs, and rigid mission structure. If you're a strategy history buff who doesn't mind a few quirks in exchange for deep, turn-based gameplay, then this one might be worth rolling out for. Just keep a maintenance crew handy. 6.5/10 – Slightly rusty, but still rolls. This is a strategy wargame similar to older games like Panzer General. Move your military units over a hex map in predesigned scenarios and defeat your WW2 enemies. Unfortunately the game was rushed out by the devs in a quick and dirty cash grab and contains a lot of flaws and game breaking bugs that they never fixed because they stopped maintaining the game after launch. Resolution is fixed, save games get corrupted, and the game crashes a lot. Curiously while the devs don't maintain the game they seem able to jump on Steam and adjust the price every now and then, keeping it at a ludicrously high $28.95 for a buggy, unfinished mess. Don't buy this one. Gamers wanting a proper turned based strategy wargame should check out the old Paradox catalogue instead.
----------------------------- Tank Operations: European Campaign is a tactical game with almost no explanation, but once you understand it you see that the game is very simple, so simple that it is one of the most tedious strategy games I have ever tried, in addition I saw the game crash twice when changing turns, luckily it's not for sale, because I really think that any civilization is better than this game in the sense of tactical battle (and unlike this game, it's not even the focus of civilization).
After a few hours and playing to the 3rd sinrio it was all fun and chalanging until the saved file consistantly crashes every time you try to fire it up. You have to save at the end of every turn because it crashes a LOT when ending your turn! Half way through the 3rd level when you reload the game after saving and ending the turn It crashes. The game loads fine again. You can make moves but as soon as you end your turn it crashes every time. It's a fun game when it desides to work but these are game killing bugs. I can't recomend it. i5 gtx980 32Gb
