i appreciate what this game is trying to do, but this game is awful. first, is the absolutely terrible voice acting and overall presentation. it would actually be a lot better if you just read the briefings. second, the gameplay seems like a deep turn-based strategy, but it is actually more of a puzzle game. you have to do things pretty much as a particular sequence to get it right, especially if you're going for secondary objectives. it involves a lot of trial and error, or just following a guide. not sure if the developers intended this style of gameplay, but it is truly awful. last, there are a number of graphical and technical bugs. ranges from making the game look janky to crashing to desktop. i love historical strategy games, but this one isn't it, chief.
Not for everyone, I'll say that right now. Clunky voice acting, clearly focused on unit models, etc. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT I've literally beat all 5 in the series. IDK what it is but this game series makes me feel akin to playing with army men when I was 5. Just a fascination with this monumental event that's so far beyond you - then taking control with some (REALLY amusing) historical "what ifs?" and it leads to an overall experience that I just love. Playing as Imperial Japan invading the Panama Canal to ensure Japanese dominance in the Pacific? That's hilarous, I love it. Plalying as Finland and managing to gain sufficient force to counterattack against the Soviets all the way to Moscow? Love it. It's absolutely a niche game but again - as someone who is very much in that niche & has basically every WWII strat. game on steam, I keep coming back to this one and it's wacky cousins. I'll leave it there. P.S. If you like this, check out Headquarters WWII. Another really cool turn-based game. And Steel Division II if you want WWII RTS.
Gameplay Mechanics: 7/10 Narrative: 6/10 Graphics: 6/10 Sound and Music: 6/10 Replayability: 6/10 Innovation: 6/10 Strategic Mind: The Pacific is a turn-based WWII strategy game that focuses on the naval warfare between the U.S. and Japan. It’s part of the broader Strategic Mind series, and while it doesn’t break major new ground, it delivers a focused, detailed take on a lesser-explored theater of the war. Gameplay mechanics are solid for fans of turn-based tactical combat. You’ll command fleets of ships, submarines, and aircraft across large maps, planning coordinated assaults and managing supply lines. Naval combat has a good amount of depth, with considerations for line of sight, flanking, and air support. However, some systems can feel a bit clunky or undercooked. Score: 7/10. Narrative is delivered through cutscenes and briefings for both the U.S. and Japanese campaigns. It tries to bring historical weight to your decisions, but the voice acting and writing are hit-or-miss, and the story rarely reaches beyond surface-level engagement. Score: 6/10. Graphics are decent for the genre—functional and clean, but not spectacular. Ship models look fine and battle animations are serviceable, though you won’t find much visual flair or dynamic effects. Score: 6/10. Sound and music are similarly passable. The soundtrack fits the WWII atmosphere, and explosions and gunfire have impact, but the overall audio experience doesn’t stand out. Score: 6/10. Replayability is moderate. You have two full campaigns, and there’s value in trying different unit builds and tactical approaches, but once you’ve completed both sides, there’s not a huge amount of variety left. Score: 6/10. Innovation gets points for focusing entirely on naval strategy—something relatively rare in WWII games. It’s a niche angle that adds some freshness, though the mechanics themselves stay fairly familiar. Score: 6/10. Bottom line: Strategic Mind: The Pacific is a competent and focused WWII tactics game that naval warfare enthusiasts will appreciate. It’s not flashy or deeply cinematic, but it offers enough depth and historical detail to keep strategy fans engaged through two distinct campaigns.
Normally I love Strategic mind games, But the Japanese gameplay is terrible. Very first mission, Absolute victory is impossible due to ghost enemy units existing after the mission is completed, my ships went around the entire island and all my planes out of fuel, and used the scouting plane every single turn, and nothing. on my last turn before Victory point penalty, and it says not all enemies are defeated. so unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game.
