Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism is a (hi)story-driven turn-based strategy set in the WW2 period. It offers refined wargame mechanics, story-rich gameplay, and modern 3D graphics. Lead the USSR Armed forces staging the world Communist revolution.
The game has many historical operations and events but also features a number of alternate history moments. It is created with great care and attention to historical details by a team which is passionate about WW2 history. Watching cinematics before and after every operation you can almost feel that you are indeed a participant of the unfolding epochal events. Moreover, numerous primary and secondary objectives allow you to explore every battle in detail. The gameplay is plot-driven and features many historical personalities such as Joseph Stalin, Georgy Zhukov, Vyacheslav Molotov, Kliment Voroshilov, Lavrentiy Beria, Aleksandr Vasilevsky, Konstantin Rokossovsky and others.
Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism is the third installment in the Strategic Mind line of games. The first one - “Strategic Mind: The Pacific” - was about naval warfare during the Pacific War, while the second one - “Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg” - was telling the story of the European theater from the German perspective. It is high time “Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism” tells the USSR story in WW2, a story filled with valiant hearts and vile betrayals. As a part of the Strategic Mind franchise, it will retain many features of the series along with adding new content and features to the existing variety.

Что будет , если украинцам дадут возможность написать историю советского союза ? Будет Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism . Коммунистический star wars old gruzin .
Another Stupid anti-communist propaganda. The story they portrayed in the game isn't far worse than the official history text book from even the US schools. It feels like they are written by Nazi sympathiser. I get it, you don't like communist. But I paid my money to enjoy a game, not to listen to your nagging of your political opinion. So stop your Subliminal Messaging. The game play itself also has a lot of problem. All units wear the same colour as the terrain, it was very hard to pick them out at the first glance and there were no high-lights or symbol on each of the units. If you play this for too long, trying to find each units can make your eyes hurts so much, especially when the in-game time turns into the night. You will have a hard time finding anything. The mini-map lacks polish. Everything in your team will be green and everything enemy own will be red; and it doesn't matter if those are units or city or airport. So you can't differentiate them in your mini-map. When moving a unit, there is a random chance that the camera will drag you into a closer look to see the fight or move. This angle change will increase your chance of losing track on your unit after the animation ends. Combine this with what I said earlier about the lack of high-lights and label, it will make your eyes hurt even more, and further increase your frustration during play. Further more, there is not indicator to show which units had already moved for its turn. You have to go through the entire unit list to check on at a time. It is such a chore to go through every turn. There are other design oversight that are game breaking. For example, the 4th mission of the campaign, we have to evacuate all core units to the button right corner of the map. But the thing is that one of my core unit ran out of fuel and therefore can't move. And there is no way to refuel it. But you must withdraw all your core unit with limited time to pass the mission. And you are not giving an option to disband the unit. There are more design oversight. For example, if your air units run out of fuel, they will drop off the sky and are destroyed. But some times, with over 100 units to go through, it is hard to remember if you have looked after your air units. There are no reminder for unmoved unit when you click "next turn". Also, there is no way to adjust combat animation speed. It eventually became a chore to watch. Of course, you can skip it by pressing the left mouse key. But that will skip everything entirely and you won't know what happened when it was enemy's turn.
Strategic Garbage, i have tried so so hard to enjoy this game, i was past the 21 yr old american voice acting of Stalin and the other USSR generals. My difficulty setting was set at enemy strength at 80% initially then down to 60%, i didn't want to go any lower to the point i was steam rolling the enemy. But i have had enough at the point of the battle of moscow, the impossible secondary missions which are thrown at you relentlessly with a very very limited amount of time to complete them, it is impossible to rush to a location because your vehicles are constantly tripped up by the enemy stopping them in their tracks. so rushing is not possible. The game somehow expects you to complete another secondary mission to kill fritz christian within 7 turns when he is at the far side of the map, surrounded by german vehicles, when half of my units are just breaking out of moscow, Then the generals have a grand idea of parachuting in para troopers to confuse the enemy defence, i did not see how this was gonna work but okay, i had 4 turns to do it, i persisted in passing the Anti air fire dropped them off and within two turns they was all dead, AI just sent all nearby tanks and killed them hmmm, good idea. it did nothing to "confuse" the defence. Hot Garbage, awful secondary missions which are impossible. I had to capture a German train in a matter of turns, i thought it was possible, all i had to do was break through the airfield and village with my KV 2 tanks and infantry, but when i got there the night time which makes it impossible to kill enemy units btw was in effect, i pummelled them with artillery, no kills but lowered the entrenchment stat, sent in the infantry, no kills, used my tanks nothing. absolute joke. The best was the death of the last unit in moscow which was the primary mission, picture this its daytime turn btw, the AI had 4 life\strength left, i used two artillery shots (The most powerful arty available to me) lowered the entrenchment and killed 1 infantry life, i used 1 of my infantry 1 got kill, i then pummelled them with my T-34's, nothing, no kills, i had two more infantry and luckily they finished them off. so it taken 6 attacks, to get them to surrender. Joke. The friendly AI is garbage, when you have to escort the generals in a retreat in mission 4 they somehow have a horrible habit of wasting their movement turns by driving round in circles, even though i have done my best to clear the field, i am not going to be able to destroy unit after unit of enemy tanks in one turn so they can get past, so this makes this secondary mission impossible. Also my final gripe is the lack of deployment zones, the moscow one IMO was the worst, your set right back at the far side of the city with not enough drop zones and a 4 turn limit to rescue zhukovs family which are on the outskirts of the city, with would you believe it protected by cannon bunkers and with the city flooded with germans, yeah good luck with that as i have said you cannot simply drive by and rush. I don't recommend this game versus the other turn based war games. just because of the unattainable secondary missions which you are expected to rush which you cannot, because you cannot simply drive past the enemy and it is made even harder when they are scattered everywhere. Also its difficult to distinguish units and placement on the night time turn, it is very difficult to see. The good? The cut scenes if you can put up with the bad voice acting.
I really feel like i got honeypotted by the CIA with this game. It's a love at first sight turned spitefull hatered over years of marriage, type story, and i invite you to listen.

Honey
Scrolling throught the steam winter sale i came upon this game. Instantly it reminded me of the panzer general style games, and i was pleasantly surprised to see the multiple complexities of the original games carried over to here. As a Pancer Corps 2 player I always lacked a well thought out and working supply mechanics, customisation of the units, and greater storytelling with you playing as a real person rather than a made up general. After reasearching this game a bit, i found it had those, and was really intrigued what it can offer, and so the money from my account went. As i booted up the first mission and looked onto the scenery i thought of how good it looks, and how different it is from what i known. Listenint to this games remix of Polyushko Polye and experimenting with my units to see how the unfamiliar systems worked, in a fresh Mongolian enviorement with pre-war tanks trully enamoured me. Skip forward to the second battle of Kiev, and i am having a mental breakdown over the game, and get PTSD reaction even thinking about opening it.
Vinegar
So how did this happen? Here ill compile the list of my complaints and the little (and big) things that drove me insane:
Gameplay
- AI is retarded beyond measure. its permanently on full berserk mode, where it tries attacking you at all times disregarding its own casualities. Also it tends to dogpile on a single unit, and this combined with the cancerous numbers of the enemies, which often are 5-1 against you, add up to serious losses, even if you play well. Keep this in mind, as this combos with random presitge costs and restarts required per mission. - Ability design was made by an actuall WW1 general. Yeah! i love having enemy infantry become unbreakable redouts of steel and fury, just because they automatically get level 3 and take the Terrain specialists, and Trench veterans, traits. Its so fun! going one/two tiles per turn during urban combat :) But it also applies to many other abilities. some are so busted that putting them next to "+1 movement point per turn" is just mindnumbing. "First strike" turns your tanks into unstoppable killing machines that can oneshot anything as long as they have ammo, but the enemy also has this, so imagine how fun it is to fight German ace with first strike :) -Night phase is cool and all, it is somewhat interesting and the intent is to slow down the game and ensure that you have breathing room and are able to reorganise defence/prepare offensive. But it does its job a little too well. You bascially feel as if you do no progress that turn, and considering how bloated the missions get later on, a turn that does nothing, but still takes an hour to micro, is so unfathomably stupid that i wonder how it got through playtests. - Retreat is NOT an option here. In Pancercorps when your units were badly damaged during an attack they would retreat and if not possible, surrender. This made the battles fluid, frontline feel like an actuall frontline, and kept the casualities managable, as your exposed unit you forgot about would not die, but retreat to cover behind friendlies, at a cost of two turns worth of movement. This is personally what angered me the most with how big the battles are, and how easy it is to forget one unit, that will just get gutted alive with no chance of survival. And the thing is, retreat and surrender mechanics do exist here, but unlike in Pancercorps, they essentially dont matter and are here just for fluff. If Strenght goes to 0, unit is basically dead unless it was attacked by artillery, and it wont retreat/surrender unless its already at 0. the situations where this happens are not that rare, but its so inconsecuential and random. -There is no class collaboration. Your tanks do not support your anti-tanks. Your artillery does not support your infantry. Your planes and anti-air dont work together. There is no cool combos or strategies you can do here, your units will either commit genocide on the entire family of their adversaries, or will get gutted alive, and no synergies between their classes exist. Also Anti-air and Artillery are insanely OP and infantry is nearly useless, especially once your tanks gain "First strike" and start oneshotting enemies inside cities. -Turns take ungodly ammount of time.
Storytelling
Aight, lets assume you had a look here before, and seen some comments about the "Anti-communism" of this game, and how its less than historical? So in the simplest terms: The game is at the same time doing alt-history, and trying its best to convince you all of the Soviets were insanely callous and duplicious, arrogant people, not even sparing the protagonist- Zhukov. This dual aproach is confusing- If i took over entirety of Finland, then what happened to the Continuation war? or the siege of leningrad? How would lack of both of them affect the war? And malicious- By mixxing historical facts and your own alt-history, and you trying to feed a falsified picture of events to the audience. Of course you can never be unbiased, its just simply called "having an opinion" but you can at least make the game distinctly alt-history, so people dont actually use your crap writing as historical sources. As for the characters: [olist] [*]Stalin behaves like he has multipolar personality disorder, constnatly switching modes, from a mentally challanged cartoonishly evil person, to actuall gigachad, and then a very pragmatic and kinda evil person. [*]Beria is kind of normal???????? Like bro what??????????? He was a literall child rapist IRL, and you chose to make him only SLIGHTLY evil??????? [*]Voroschilov has no character traits other than being incompetent, and yet Stalin does not kill him even thought he is portrayed to be this ultra-evil triggerhappy purge guy, and butting heads with him many times. [*] Zhukov also has Stalin type schizofrenia [*] Vasilevsky is kinda cool, i like him. [*] Rokosovsky is portrayed as some kind of dissident who hates Stalin? and this is his only character trait btw. [/olist] Besides this, they are all voiced over with some type of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2012 esque Ivona AI read-aloud. The game misunderstands the Lend-Lease, and how it worked in the USSR. USA and UK sent USSR millions of pairs of shoes, warm clothes, hundreds of tousnads of trucks, food, and many civilian grade and logistics commodities they simply lacked. Meanwhile those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ portray it as BILLIONS of planes, and tanks. In 1941 and 42 btw. which accounted for only 16% of ALL allied shipments to the USSR throught the war. And it makes sure you understand how much it was epic and wholsome, with everyone glaizng it with no second throught. Even when the IRL lend-lease and the one in-game couldnt be more different (Economic and logiscics aid, vs billions of warmachines from the very get-go) And finally, the game doesent even try to be subtle about its anti-soviet message. And hey Im not against it, USSR wasn't paradise and im not a communist, but having the faction you are playing as be smeared OVER and OVER again, really discourages you to go forward, does it not? and NO this is not a story about tragedy, you literally take over London at the end because the writers took so much drugs they belive it could happen, so it HAS a happy ending and doesen't fit the "Are we the baddies?" trope.
In conclusion:
I really wanted to love this game, but its just so miserable and shoddily made. it has some innovative features, but they are buried under a mound of ♥♥♥♥. 2/10 if you search for entertaining Pancer general style game or a great story 10/10 if you want to spend 40 minutes per turn to reset it because of one unit.
Note: My reviews for the "Strategic Mind" games will all appear similar. This is because this series of games are all exactly the same engine, with some minor reskins and different levels. Because the games are all functionally identical, my reviews will be, too. There's only so many ways to warn gamers about the same defects, and we must question the value it has for gamers when developers copy + paste the same games over and over again onto Steam. "Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism" is a somewhat poorly made turn based tactical game set (loosely) in some version of WW2. The game has you moving units like bombers, infantry, tanks etc around a hex based map to achieve various objectives while your enemy tries to stop you. Okay. It's been done before, a lot, and a lot better than this. While there's one glaring technical issue, the key problem here is just the game design. The missions and factions aren't respresented properly. The game is badly balanced and the scenarios don't make sense and don't play well. The visuals are very deceptive here and the rest of the game doesn't match. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While the graphics look okay, the developer weirdly decided to lock the number of resolution options you can get... now, if you have a modern GPU, you'll probably get a bunch of superresolution options (to render the game at a higher resolution than your monitor... brute forcing AA if you like), and these are the only options that appear, because the developer decided there's no need for you to scroll through the resolutions available to you. The upshot? You can't set the game to your monitor native resolution. Now, if you're gaming on a CRT, that's fine... but come on, everyone uses a fixed resolution LCD or OLED monitor nowadays. That kind of screwup from the developer isn't acceptable. There's also no UI scaling, so if you are forced into a superresolution, you can't scale the text back up. Not cool. This game features a number of suspicious, likely fake positive reviews. The reviews all appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and all have very similar wording and writing style, in Russian and English. Immediately after this huge peak of reviews, reviews (and player counts) for the game dropped incredibly sharply. This is highly unusual given the very low quality of the game and poor player counts. The "Positive" review score on this game should be taken with a large grain of salt. This might have been done to deceive/mislead gamers into paying for a bad product. The "Positive" review score on this game should be taken with a large grain of salt. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Strategic Mind: Spectre of Communism" has the utterly unrealistic price of $40 (that's right, AAA priced, THIRTY DOLLARS), for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $30 asking price for this game could get you games like "Euro Truck Simulator 2", "Assetto Corsa" or "Mass Effect 2"... or pretty much any AAA game if you're willing to wait for a sale. That's just insulting pricing. Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Anti-communist garbage - Refunded
Strategic Mind: Spectre of Zionism
I have been trying to like the game, as you can see by the hours played. Overall, it turned out to be a kind of Company of Heroes on a strategic hex map - which makes it a bad mix. It simply makes the maps too huge, and gives you too many units based on mechanics that are really meant to be for much fewer units. Add to that that you are confused with many sidequests that are basically unachievable in their majority, while your main missions are a challenge even on easy mode. And I do have quite a bit of experience in both strategic and tactical war games, so this wasn't just me...
