Its a pretty fun game, although the multiplayer is dead. Unfortunately for me the game decided I just can't play it anymore and I can't seem to fix it... well it was fun while it lasted. I don't recommend since it seems like a decently common issue. EA, please fix your ♥♥♥♥
Please do not buy this game. No, not on sale either. Some of the most unpleasant mission design I believe I've encountered across several decades, scores of games, and numerous generea's. This isn't a bad space flight sim, this is a badly made game. At least from the single player, storyline, viewpoint. I can't speak to multiplayer yet as I hoped to gain some familiarity before inflicting my piloting on others. Random chance is acceptable in games, but I'm pretty sure that I've pulled slot machines with more intent toward fair play, or even consideration toward balance than this. Maybe it's just me, but this was genuinely not fun.
This game is absolutely amazing. Hands down, especially in VR, this is the most immersive star-wars flight sim that has ever existed. Ship accurate, full of details. The experience is great. This is not meant to be Battlefront. This is a sim, it's more involved than that. But compared to real-world flight sims, it's actually very light. Has it been abandoned? Yes. Is it hard to find folks on multiplayer? Absolutely. It's a damn shame. But even the single player experience is a complete tour-de-force in space sim glory. There has never been another game like this. It is an absolute blast to play.
傻逼游戏买来就没成功打开过几次,从20系到50系,从因特尔到amd,从win10到11,总有各种奇奇怪怪的问题。死妈EA,只做垃圾
If Jedi: Fallen Order is about the soul of a Jedi, Star Wars™: Squadrons is about the soul of a machine. It is a tight, tactical, and deeply immersive flight simulator that successfully resurrects the spirit of the classic X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter games from the 90s.
Recent reviews saying it doesnt launch almost put me off but I bought it anyway. Launched perfectly for me, no EA launcher or signin required. Looks and plays beautifully in VR using SteamVR on Quest 3s. Definitely worth it, especially on sale for $5.
disclaimer: i do not give even one h*ck or a sh*t about pvp, and vr is dead. i'm just here for the campaign Star Wars Quadrons is in a lot of ways really great. even just on its own, the way the cockpit design is so dynamic and integral to the gameplay makes this an incredible entry in the space shooter genre. everything's so chunky and worn, the audio design is impeccable, you can really feel connected with the ships you get to fly. definitely absolutely play the "instruments only" mode, it's a subtle but effective change that makes your relationship with the cockpit mechanic more active and compelling. i would love to see this game's presentation adapted to a full-on open world single player or co-op space game with star systems and free traversal, especially if you also got to fly neutral starships rather than being stuck on the empire/rebel sides. star wars outlaws had some of this, but it was underbaked because they also had to make a whole other game. star wars freelancer, please the story is pretty alright, a relatively small conflict that is very important to the two main characters, which imo is a great balance for a story in star wars world. not everything has to be fate-of-the-universe stuff. you play both a person fighting a fascist government, and a fascist government lackey committing war crimes. sometimes they save you from committing war crimes by putting them in a cutscene, but sometimes the war crimes are actual in-game objectives that are technically optional, but incentivized by trophies. in the tradition of space shooters, your character is a no-name hyper-competent pilot who in this case is a tool for one of the two *actual* main characters, the two heads of the opposing factions. they are extremely "unfinished business" at each other, and make your character's life hell in pursuit of helping one character get one over on the other. flight games like ace combat often make sure every character always talks at you about how good you are at flying, and that's certainly the case here. you even get assigned to take over the imperial squadron from noshir dalal's character, and he's just like "dude you're so great at flying space ships" i like most of your fellow Quadron characters: you appropriately want to punch most of the fascist ones (respectfully. we can't make the empire *too* evil because this is a big corporate franchise with nothing to say) and chill with most of the rebel ones. this game avoids a trap a lot of recent scifi falls into (including new star wars & new star trek) where everybody talks in the way executives think is "modern" but is in fact "immediately dated.". you know, stumbling joke-y irreverent dialogue. "wow... that's a thing!" dialogue. the last jedi had poe make an answering machine joke, which felt really weird. in avoiding this, Quadrons feels relatively timeless: the characters speak in a way where they could possibly have come from scifi made any time in the past 50 years. my biggest problem with this campaign is that they stopped short of making everything seamless, and replaced what could have been fun/chill traversal gameplay with FMV. for me, the ideal linear spaceship fantasy would be these missions being one continuous gameplay sequence from launch to dock. even if docking wasnt a complex minigame of maneuvering like it is in more hardcore sims like elite dangerous, getting to sit in the cockpit as it happens would have really hit home the illusion. as it stands, any time they want to transition to a new area, it's a blurry FMV of the ships flying by, which really breaks the whole thing up in a way that takes me out of the experience. they can do jumps to/from hyperspace in-engine, which is real cool when it happens, but it's not often. they truncate a lot of the actual traversal, like they're afraid of you not having ships to shoot at for more than 30 seconds at a time. an extremely important part of the spaceship fantasy is the act of flying it even outside of combat! some of my favorite parts of Quadrons were the early bits where you toured the fleet, and the long approach to the asteroid base in the first mission. i would have loved a lot more of that. slight tangent: this also gets at my distaste for FMV cutscenes (and cinematic trailers) in general. even if they're made using in-game assets, or are of high video quality, pre-rendered videos-as-storytelling always feel just so clearly disconnected from the actual game world that it becomes much harder to feel invested. i love me some fully in-engine cutscenes, and as SSDs have become the norm they are much more common. nowadays FMVs are often only used when devs *really* need it, like a cutscene taking place in a lot of places at once or a big event happening. it's better, but ideally all cutscenes should be in-engine for a good sense of cohesion. for example, it's really hard to go back to games like Shadow of Mordor/War now because the game and the cutscenes feel so completely cut off from each other, due to the video-ness and even the presentation (next time you play either mordor game, pay attention to how in-game "cutscenes" and dialogue are all just zoomed in cameras locked to track one character model, even with non-orcs, and how FMVs have actual composed shots and pacing. once you see it, the illusion falls apart very fast). (there is a cuss word in this paragraph, and i'm sorry about that) Quadrons can be quite difficult, even on normal difficulty, when you are piloting one of the many imperial ships that just don't come with shields, or sometimes even the self-repair module. it's not what i would consider "good" difficulty, either: with the amount of laser fire and enemies that will lock onto you at once, the difficulty at many points could even easily be described as (here is the cuss word, look away now) "bull crap." the game tells you to maneuver and weave to avoid enemy fire, but idk man, that works for capital ships and turrets on approach, but it's a different story when 5+ different enemies lock on to you at once from all directions. even if you divert power to engines and try to maneuver, which the tutorial implies is the play in these situations, they've still blasted you to smithereens before you can power up your boost to get away. there's one engine type that passively charges boost which i think is absolutely mandatory in a shieldless ship. your only options for taking hull damage are to use the self-repair module, which is often unavailable to you depending on the mission (and by the way has some incredible chunky spark effects in the cockpit, i love using them), or hold the Y button to try and coax one of your squadmates to magically patch your hull up. both have long cooldowns, in a game where you take at least chip damage All The Time. at the very least, the self-repair module should have been standard universal equipment on every ship, instead of taking up one of your two auxiliary slots. i would have liked it more if the self-repair cooldown was also rather short, but in return had a limited amount of them that your squadmate can replenish with the longer-cooldown resupply requests. you know, like a slightly less restrictive estus flask/bd-1 bacta stim mechanic. in a shieldless ship, you can get mega-targeted and put at critical health with little to no warning, and if neither of your cooldowns are up, you're done. anyway, this game is not "dead," you can still very much play it at any time, and the way you do so means you don't have to be continuously ganked by people who take the game way too seriously! it is called the "story," or "campaign mode." i do wish they'd have continued adding story packs to this game, or even a full expansion, i'd keep coming back for those. just aimless shooting does nothing for me, i need context and story.
