Perfect visuals!
The loading screen message "sit back and relax" is very misleading. Even on easy difficulty it can be challenging. I'm recommending it mostly for the art design and visuals, not for the gameplay.
Looks beautiful, yet I was overloaded by enemies. The stressful situations that lead me to quit at level 2 really blew my mind. First message says sit back and relax, but make sure your ready to duck, dodge, swat balls, smash rocks, and shoot all at the same time.... There is a time and place for this, but unless my ammo is unlimited or my view is not completely obstructed at all times. This game isn't for anyone on a casual play. This is considered INTENSE by no low ball means. Cause it's all up in your face. Bought this part of a bundle. It worth the few cents I might have paid. But not at 10$.
One of my favorite VR games! Beautiful and extremely stylish graphics and music. The gameplay is very frantic but addictive!
Honestly, this game is worth it alone for the audiovisual experience. The art style and music are fantastic and suck you into a dystopian future where you fight giant, strange-looking robots and godlike AI figures. It looks and sounds fantastic. But there is also a solid lightgun shooter in here, that not only demands good aim but also some fitness for dodging incoming shots or deflecting them with your hands. It can get quite exhausting at times. And be sure to follow the hint at the beginning: The game is meant to be hard, so if you just want to go for the "experience" instead of being shot into oblivion chose "easy" mode. "Normal" gets kinda bullshitty at the end of the fourth level. I can't even imagine doing the final boss on normal or even hard. But if you are up for the challenge it might add some hours to the short playtime. This game only has five levels and they can be completed in a bit over one hour. Well, you can always hunt for new high scores if that's your thing.
Singularity 5 stands out from the crowd of wave shooters only with it's visuals. Gameplay is ok, but nothing ground breaking. Pros: + Very distinct and memorable design of environments, highly polished and optimized graphics + Frantic "Space Pirate Trainer"-like gameplay Cons: - For some reason, when you hit an enemy's weak spot, word 'FATAL' appears above it. It looks really weird, breaks the immersion and doesn't make much sense overall - It takes about an hour to beat the game on Normal difficulty
Sorry, but no. Not fun at all. Feels unguided and just boring.
30 minutes in and I already gifted another copy to a friend. Is it innovative? Not really. Does it have a lot of content? Nah. Is there a lot to do in this game? Nope. BUT, even then it is a joy to play. Fantastic graphics and art direction make this game a treat to the eyes. The music is great and fitting as well, making the world feel immersive and captivating. The guns feel surprisingly good despite being a bit odd looking. For some reason the throwing mechanics might be the best I've ever used in a VR game. The game is refreshingly hard and a bit chaotic. You might not die easily but you get swarmed in a matter of seconds, making every second a true fight for survival. I love the mechanic of swinging away grenades and crystals blocking your vision, making it difficult to aim and forcing you to make fast decisions. There are negatives too of course. The enemies are very similar and have odd attack animations. I didn't like how your grenade could collide with the ones thrown by the drones, often making it impossible to throw them at all if there were drone grenades on the screen. I also wish there was a movement based option to reload, perhaps through a quick flick of your wrist of something, as the trackpad/touch menu on Vive is not very intuitive to use. The first level had some lighting issues on Vive (foggy light/godrays). While not technically as impressive as for example games like Space pirate trainer, Singularity 5 is just as fun. It lacks content as well as replay value, but honestly I feel like these 30 minutes have already been worth the about 5 euros I spent on it. It really reminded me of the days when you got some change from your parents and tried a game at an arcade and it felt like the best game ever made. This is a wave defense done correctly in almost every aspect, and albeit being a bit costly for its content, its still worth it. I don't often jump the gun on reviewing games and prefer to finish them first, but as there is a discount at the moment I'd like to encourage people who are considering to buy this game to give it a shot. Amongst all the disappointing games that get released for VR weekly, Singularity 5 manages to stand out in a positive way. Well done developers. A solid 7/10 from me.
Great style, great gameplay. Well worth it.
