Only giving it a thumbs down until they fix the horrendous performance problems. Game seemed alright for the 3 hours I played. I got to the apartments and was shocked by the frame rate. I started using lossless scaling, which helped, but eventually realized it still wasn't sufficient enough to satisfy me and I uninstalled. Resident Evil 9 ran absolutely fine on my rig. Explain that one.

This was my first time playing a game in the Silent Hill franchise. Before playing this, my only exposure to Silent Hill was watching a bunch of cutscenes from Shattered Memories of a terrible psychiatrist who definitely should have their license taken away. I've heard a lot of people say they really love the story of Silent Hill 2, but for the 10 hours I played it, there wasn't much story because it was basically 2 minutes of cutscenes for every 2 hours I spent walking around getting lost. Also, every single character is unlikeable. I stopped playing partway through the hospital because I got sick of being lost and dealing with the annoying characters. (The little kid is especially bad.) One of the puzzles was nearly unsolvable and I had to use a guide, because you were supposed to find numbers written on walls, but the walls were ABSOLUTELY FILLED with scribbles and it would have taken me ages to find the numbers among them. The game also made me nauseous. I had to change a bunch of settings in order to not feel terrible. To say something positive about the game: The map is somewhat useful and I like how James marks it up to put helpful notations on it. I still got lost though.
