While an old game, this game is still one of the better cRPG game you'll play. Gameplay will remind you of the old Baldur's Gate games, and the story is a bit fun. You feel the history you are helping create as you move through the story.
it's exhausting. crisis after crisis, problem after problem, and everything has a time limit, or else you fail, no mater how good you did. no breather, no possibility to proceed in your own pace. the game is good and i would like to finish it, but after a day of real life crises i just can't force myself to boot this game and stress out about a mirriad of fictional ones. and don't get me wrong: in general, ingame problems are the crucial component of escapism - to briefly forget about the real world problems and to solve some otherwordly stuff. it's even empowering in some way, lets your soul to rest and promts your mind to think, to reflect, helps you change focus and get to know yourself. but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, fellas, give me a break - why'd you need to constantly push me for time?! is your target audience a complete and total carefree no-lifers with nothing to stress about? jeez!.. i dread coming back. i want to, because the story is interesting and i very much would like to see it through, but i don't know if i have the strength for it...
Ran into a gamebreaking crash bug several hours in. Area save data was corrupted so I couldn't escape the Sycamore caves. Frustrating.
Long story short, if you are experienced with "Pathfinder" it's characters, rules, etc. you may like this game. "Everyone else" i.e. anyone who is looking for a video game that doesn't expect you to read half the internet to figure out how to play, where to go, how exactly to build each class (so you can even hit an opponent much less survive a battle) and retry / save endlessly (to reach level 4!) should try basically any other cRPG (like say the D&D ones). TLDR: For fanboys only.
Writing is so bad in this game. It's written by people who don't understand people, and who don't understand how the world works. It stompkicks you out of immersion pretty quick. I did keep trying to play it. I did enjoy making my character which took 2 hours itself, otherwise I would've refunded it. I did try to keep playing it despite the writing, but the combat really never felt satisfying enough for me to keep wanting to play this game. Enemies die quick where you feel like increasing the difficulty. But at the same time you can experience missing 10 times in a row and one of your characters is 2 shot without having a turn. Increasing difficulty then doesn't seem like a good idea. You end up with this weird feeling of the game being both too hard and too easy at the same time. Maybe these things balance out later in the game. Loot is just a pain. I have no interest carrying 20 different trash items you can sell for 1 gold each. I don't get why people like that. Let me find 1 ring worth 20 gold and call it a day. I don't want all that clutter where I have to read every item in case it's important. I don't need to have trash loot thrown at me every 2 minutes. Some of the art in this game is pretty good. Some of the characters look ridiculous. It's cool you get to have a centipede companion. The inquisitor hat looks dum That about sums up my thoughts on this game
Absurdly long game and there was a point where they split my party up and made me fight enemis/bosses stronger than anything I had ever faced and could never get past it.
Was it painful? Yes. Was it also one of the best games I've ever played? Definitely.
