This is the worst FRPG I've ever played. Chapters 1 and 2 weren't too shabby, but a bit awkward at times. But the wheels came off in chapter 3, Season of the Bloom. It's just very poorly developed. The storyboard logic is TERRIBLE and the programming is amateur. Too many logic flaws and storytelling errors to mention. I spent more time trying to figure out what ORDER the creators wanted things done in and how to find the extremely well-hidden details that had never come up during play to advance the quest line that I spent more time outside the game troubleshooting it than I spent gaming. This is NOT what RPGs are supposed to be about. It's very fortunate that I bought this game for 85% off of list price during a special, because it isn't even worth the few bucks it cost me. I can't wave you off of this game emphatically enough. It's CRAP. Total waste of my time. Games created and published via kickstarter/crowd sourced should not be sold as mainstream computer games without a clear warning that you are buying an AMATEUR product from AMATEURS. Owlbear is a joke. I'll be seeking a refund from Steam for the other Pathfinder products I purchased and have not even downloaded yet. This game was so chock full of stuff to hate that it overwhelmed the stuff they did pretty well. In fact, I'm not even going to try to be "fair and balanced" by listing a few of things I think they did right. I really wanted to like this game. I stuck with it all the way to the sadistic end of chapter 3. I've put in 95 hours of game play time. I don't want to debug and reprogram a product I bought as a finished product (false pretenses if you ask me). I don't want to go back and redo 3 sub-quests because I chose to do them in a different order. Completed them all just fine, but in an order other than what the very mediocre intellect who was responsible for the storyboard logic tree of this game wanted me to complete them in. So the quest failed. BS! That's not RPG. It's not quality programming. Finally, I got to a place where I already had an NPCs room key in my inventory and had already searched her room when the dialog option came up to ask her for the key (I had looted it days before). This sorry game bricked my computer! Froze up solid right there. Had to do a hard reboot to shake it loose. Like I said: these are not serious game designers at Owlbear. It's highly insulting that they are allowed to peddle this trash on Steam alongside actual videogames like Call of Duty and Baldur's Gate. That actually reflects poorly on Steam, because it damaged my trust in the platform's brand.
it's exhausting. crisis after crisis, problem after problem, and everything has a time limit, or else you fail, no mater how good you did. no breather, no possibility to proceed in your own pace. the game is good and i would like to finish it, but after a day of real life crises i just can't force myself to boot this game and stress out about a mirriad of fictional ones. and don't get me wrong: in general, ingame problems are the crucial component of escapism - to briefly forget about the real world problems and to solve some otherwordly stuff. it's even empowering in some way, lets your soul to rest and promts your mind to think, to reflect, helps you change focus and get to know yourself. but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, fellas, give me a break - why'd you need to constantly push me for time?! is your target audience a complete and total carefree no-lifers with nothing to stress about? jeez!.. i dread coming back. i want to, because the story is interesting and i very much would like to see it through, but i don't know if i have the strength for it...
On it's own it might not be as bad but playing Wrath of the Righteous first then Kingmaker really highlights how much better they got at writing, level design, kingdom management, not letting fans add terrible quests and NPC's, and... well..... everything. Final Act was one of the most annoying grinds I have ever not given up on.
Altamente recomendado
While an old game, this game is still one of the better cRPG game you'll play. Gameplay will remind you of the old Baldur's Gate games, and the story is a bit fun. You feel the history you are helping create as you move through the story.
Schon lange kein solch schönes und mit Liebe & Hingabe gemachtes Rollenspiel gesehen!!!
It's a fun game based on the Pathfinder system, with all the highs and lows that that entails.
Long story short, if you are experienced with "Pathfinder" it's characters, rules, etc. you may like this game. "Everyone else" i.e. anyone who is looking for a video game that doesn't expect you to read half the internet to figure out how to play, where to go, how exactly to build each class (so you can even hit an opponent much less survive a battle) and retry / save endlessly (to reach level 4!) should try basically any other cRPG (like say the D&D ones). TLDR: For fanboys only.
