Overyped, buggy trash. Braindeads behind this title forgot that games, most of all, are supposed to be fun and this thing is just torture. If I wanted that kind of experience, I would just go to work. Complete waste of money.
Savescumming is the only viable option to play this dumpsterfire. Why is there so many random encounters with extremely hard enemies that will just one shot you and you cannot do anything about it? "But just run away or don't go there", you can't "flee" like in Baldur's gate 3. Your only option is to save before EVERY SINGLE ENCOUNTER. It's very sad and bad design. If you forget to save in a big area after clearing it, you can encounter a "hidden counter" by walking around. Well guess what happens now? You either fight this encounter and lose, or you can go to your last save, oh but what's that? The autosave saved right before the fight begun and now you have to reload you last manual save from before you cleared an area for 30 minutes. Exploring the world in a lore-driven CRPG is their biggest selling point. And Pathfinder Kingmaker punishes you for exploring.
Game is sooooooooooooooooo BORING. It's like reading x3 novels at once. EVERY single icon has AT LEAST x3 large paragraphs of text. I just wanna play the game, but when I do that, combat is super JANKY. If i click on the closest enemy with x3 characters, my hero (tank) walks up to the enemy and does nothing. Yes, that's right, NOTHING! --> The enemy is RED & pause the game & click on my hero to attack it & I literally just durdle. I was somehow able to kill enemies this way when I was alone, but I can't attack anymore now that i'm partied-up. :/ Then, the game told me to cast spells. OK, so if i can't figure out how to melee attack, htf am I going to cast skills??? The tutorial, has x3 long paragraphs for every simple command. In this game, you can't just point and click. Everything is so confusing. To add to the confusion, character movement is ultra-SLOW--even during non-combat scenarios. Like, the devs REALLY want you to suffer and walk 2-minutes to an exit. Furthermore, mouse click movements often don't work and you have to double-click on areas instead of single-clicking. I played 50-minutes and quit on the 4th enemy. If you can't tell how slow this game is, yet, then leave this trash for the DnD players who don't think utter lethargy is boring.
theres smth wrong with the die in this game
once the kingdom management clicked this game was a blast throughout.
Game is impossible to win or even come close.
This is a terrible game with a terrible start that just didn't make me want to stick around. For starters, the controller support is atrocious: I get jjoystick drift on this game exclusively. At the OS level there isn't any drift. Steam Input doesn't pick up any drift. Any other game on my steam library doesn't pick up drift. This game somehow manages to hallucinate joystick drift. UI in most CRPGs is a sin and their lack of clarity is tradition, but in this game the UI is particularly is unintuitive. Options hidden away, stat windows and tabs that take over most of the screen yet manage to not condense information in a clear and concise way. This certainly isn't the type of game you can just sit back and look at from affar, it demands the nerd hunch back from you as it lacks UI scaling settings. Lastly: difficulty. I have played my fair share of classic and recent CPRGs. As usual, I take the classic approach of "perhaps I'm dumb, I'm probably missing out something". Some games demand that from you. In this game, I've reloaded my save file numerous times, explored the map in a different order, etc. All to no avail, I just couldn't progress any further than half of level 2. Most if not all of the encounters I'd find would either be composed entirely of level 3 characters or singular level 5 boss monsters. Progression is painfully slow, the RNG system deserves it's own special brand of dice jail as you'll be missing dice rolls more often than not given the ridiculously overtuned stats of early game NPCs. (20+ AC on early game characters? okay) And it's not like theres a great variety of encounters in the early game that'll let you find an alternative way around this game's difficulty. In the same run, my party managed to one shot a manticore but would later die to a swarm of cave spiders due to successive bad rolls. I hate the save scumming tradition in this genre and I avoid it like the plague when I can, but it's ridiculous that this game demands save scumming from you THIS early into the game. Which is a shame because the game at first seemed rather charming. The characters I've met so far were charming, the story had the same pace and story beats as Fallout 1, which I found cute. The map exploration with a map and a wooden piece is cute. It made me feel like I was just playing a virtual PnP campaign. This game feels especially bad in a post Baldur's Gate 3 world. The game is like the digital embodiment of a DM that wants to promise their players an excruciatingly hard campaign, only to find a painfully unfun set of encounters composed of characters with inflated stats. Sure it's hard, but it ain't fun. There's no depth, no sauce. I'm gonna try to install some mods to see if the experience is any better, but as it is, this game is hard to recommend.
riddled with bugs but still a great game from an amazing studio
