A silly little physics-based game about moving on... or is it? Be neat, be careful, or be a chaos goblin. The choice is yours. But be warned, not all is as it seems in this quiet little house.

Average game about moving your house
I WISH I could recommend this game, but I got to the night part and reset the breakers and the game went from creepy to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating about not knowing where to go. It went from from "I'm worried about what's going to jump out at me" to "I wish this game had an automap feature and that spell in skyrim that would tell me where the hell to go" I mean the confusion around what I saw early on was good: 'Wait, am I a killer? Does the house hate me? Did I murder a family?'
Under the cozy, silly atmosphere lies all the horror you encounter during moving. Trying to fit things into boxes, getting them out the door, picking up, putting down, oh no did I break that one? The gameplay is very satisfying, especially popping out a new box and catching it mid-air. Glad you can just chuck things and they don't break. I am glad I could pack up my totally normal things in this normal house and left never to come back. The House of Leaves comparisions are very apt, if you are even a slightest bit intrigued by that, play this game.
I say positive review this because its fun and cute but bite sized. NOT SCARY more of a comedy poking fun at House of Leaves I did get one really good scare though
save system literally doesnt work post it notes required for learning a door code are blank with no text or numbers -- literally a bug that blocks all progress. really sucks to give this a negative review :(
Played for an hour before a bug involving the torch in the nursery broke my save (ie. I saved and reloaded and the torch disappeared which meant that I couldn't progress) and I refunded as the only option was to reload back ups saves and all of those had glitches or bugs that meant I just had to restart. So I can't recommend. Gameplay wise the mechanics are mildly interesting for 10 minutes but get old pretty quickly, as the packing and moving parts is incredibly rudimentary and the actual creepy bits don't kick in til you've almost packed the the entire house into the back of the van. Shame, as the premise and vibes really piqued my interest.
I did enjoy this game enough, but the content is not worth the price. Only purchase if this game is on a sale. The mechanics are fine (but I had multiple needed items clip out into walls due to NORMAL walking and had to reset my task). The horror is okay, but not great. I feel like this game missed out on a more slow build of horror and instead just went to confusing the audience. It's trying to be subtle about the story but it's just... not enough to be engaging? Kind of a let down, I'll be frank. If you want a good game to play or get inspiration from, play the Open House on itchio. It's a good example of the more unusual horror in going through a house and unsettles the player very well. Of course, I'm not asking this game to be that 2.0, but it really should've taken inspiration from that. Maybe it could have had us pack some suspicious items or bags, or maybe when we turned our back the house began to move furniture in front of the doors? It's not effective horror to sometimes have an item fall off the shelf in front of me when I walk close to it- Wait until I leave the room and then make something fall that wasn't interactable. maybe make people start to watch us from the street, over the hedge, things like that. The maze in the basement got boring, the cemetery just wasn't scary, and the attempt to intrigue fell flat. But this game has SO much potential! Just improve the mechanics a bit, and step back to focus on the story more. Maybe we pack up articles or family albums we can flip through? Focus more on the baby stuff, like maybe we can pack up a pair of baby shoes "never to be used" and like, imply sad stuff you know? You guys have so much potential for a sequel game where you just up the horror to 100%, you can do it! It's just not there yet.
This game ain't it. Scariest thing about it was how disorganised the person moving is.
Not your average moving sim. This story made my heart simultaneously ache and palpitate. HIGHLY recommend.
I feel like Moving Houses would be a better game if it was 1) Less buggy (clues you NEED to advance sometimes don't render properly, objects clip through walls and fall out of the world etc) 2) Could better time its scares - early on its all objects falling over unexpectedly, furniture ending up on the ceiling, real basic stuff. I was really hoping this would lead to more serious scares later like Spooky's House of Jumpscares but it just... didn't. The scariest thing it seemed to think of was showing videos from stock image websites, including one they used the photoshop deform tool to make a lady's eyebrows go all evil looking. Spooky. 3) Had actually satisfying packing mechanics. It doesn't, they're just tedious, and I say this as a weirdo who plays job simulator games involving cleaning. So uh. It'd kind of be better if it was a different game entirely. Its an interesting concept, but between buggy gameplay requiring me to use the "restart task" button frequently (and look up the solution to a code puzzle online because the note with the code on it rendered blank) and the spooks taking way too long between each other, destroying any tension, and generally being lame when they happen, I can't recommend it.
