A silly little physics-based game about moving on... or is it? Be neat, be careful, or be a chaos goblin. The choice is yours. But be warned, not all is as it seems in this quiet little house.

This game is actually really clever, really fun, and has some (if limited) replayability. It mixes the satisfaction of packing up the house for a move with the creepiness of strange sh*t happening (why is the furniture on the ceiling?!) and advances the story it tries to tell well. I found the basement stage unnecessary and frustrating - the hand drawn map was useless and navigating the labyrinth without a map was a nightmare. It was unclear at times what you were supposed to be doing, too. The narration as you move on to packing up another room was very clever, witty and reminded me of The Stanley Parable. Make sure you stick around for the credits too, there’s lots of secrets in the super catchy song and cut scene. Really enjoyed my three playthroughs and appreciated the different modes to add replayability otherwise this would have been a bit too short of an experience. Highly recommend if you enjoy cosy games with a creepy edge. Pros - Some, if limited, replayability - Witty narration - Advances the story well - Cosy, satisfying gameplay - Creepy horror vibes - Super catchy song Cons[\B] - Moving Houses 2 when? - Story is a little unclear - Basement level was frustrating and very hard to navigate with the hand drawn map. Instructions on how to proceed were unclear at times Overall Rating: 9/10
I would pay $6.99 for this max. Not much to the game, only 1 puzzle. The horror elements are very light and mediocre. The story leaves a lot unanswered- but it an an alright playthrough. It seemingly had a lot of potential but it almost feels like the dev just gave up and wanted it finished. I would give a thumbs up if it was cheaper.
Moving Houses starts like a cozy physics-based moving simulator: you’re packing up a house room by room, boxing furniture, knickknacks, plants, and more, and loading them into a truck in first-person. The mechanics are simple and satisfying at first — pick up objects, rotate them, and place them neatly — or just throw them around if you want to be a 'chaos goblin'. But as I played, Moving Houses reveals that it’s not just about lifting boxes and clearing rooms. What starts as mundane packing gradually becomes eerie and surreal. Objects sometimes move on their own, rooms subtly shift, and familiar spaces start feeling off in unexplainable ways. The shift from comfy simulation to unsettling mystery is slow and effective — you don’t notice the creepiness at first, but once it starts, it doesn’t let up. The game leans into psychological horror without relying on loud jump scares; instead, it uses atmosphere, timing, and the unexpected behavior of the environment to make you feel uneasy in a place that should feel ordinary. What makes Moving Houses stand out is how it blends whimsical physics gameplay with this creeping dread. The physics interactions — from shooting a basketball to throwing a TV into the truck — are playful and often humorous early on, but as the environment starts to warp and flashbacks or unsettling moments intrude, the same mechanics begin to feel uncanny. It’s a clever use of juxtaposition that slowly pulls you into a deeper narrative about memory and attachment. While the core loop is about packing and moving, the game ultimately becomes an exploration of what it means to leave pieces of your life behind — and whether you’re really ready to let go. — The Ember Archives https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45601239/
Quite good. I played it on the Steam Deck and it ran perfectly. If you like House of Leaves, you might like this game :)
Have you read House of Leaves? Did you enjoy it? If so, play this! I loved every bit of it.
Overall a not recommend but there is some strong promise. It wants to be both silly physics game/packing simulator and psychological horror ala House Of Leaves but fails a bit on both counts, main complaints below. It's a shame because both the packing component and the underlying story could be incredibly powerful on their own or with a few changes. Physics game: - The distance between truck and house mean a lot of walking/throwing/kicking, really breaking flow/enjoyment - the physics + SFX means getting stuff from drawers/cupboards causes a repetitive cacophony Horror game: - The story concept is good but undercut by the otherwise cutesy/silly aesthetic - You'd often miss the early spooky moments if you are carrying something - Low opacity stock video overlays feel unnecessary, forced, and mostly annoying. - The major story segment is undercut by a few annoying jumpscares
IM MOVING HOUSES
Average game about moving your house
I WISH I could recommend this game, but I got to the night part and reset the breakers and the game went from creepy to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating about not knowing where to go. It went from from "I'm worried about what's going to jump out at me" to "I wish this game had an automap feature and that spell in skyrim that would tell me where the hell to go" I mean the confusion around what I saw early on was good: 'Wait, am I a killer? Does the house hate me? Did I murder a family?'
