I've tried this game during Steam Next Fest before its release and was quite disappointed then. Now, I am pleasantly surprised! All the annoying issues were fixed and game IMHO feels great. I'd call it a breath of fresh air in Civ-like genre - it does a number of things differently, biggest one being the alternative ages followed by tile improvements and production chains they can create. Picking variant age (or being forced into catastrophic age) is fun and significantly improves replayability. Other systems are quite simple like diplomacy (though I like you have to send an envoy) or trade but they do what they should. Worst system is definitely combat - while basis is good (you move around armies that increase in size with new techs, unit selection and stats are good), player has no control beyond composition and place of battle (and thus bonuses). I like the strategy more than tactics so it wasn't a deal-breaker, but to some, it might be. Given the obvious love devs have for their game, it's quite possible it could be reworked in future tho. It's quite obviously AA game and small budget is felt throughout the game so just don't expect perfect polish or revolutionary graphics, though it's all serviceable and I am not turned off by it. Another outcome is basically non-existent nation variability - you only have single and relatively small starting bonus, color and names. No animated leader, no unique units nor mechanics. These are instead provided by National Spirits and selectable government systems. In the end, it doesn't really matter but it's certainly a miss. Really liked music though. Oh and whole game loop is heavily built on "mana" (points you get through events, improvements or buildings, store them and then spent on various actions). I quite like it but some people really hate such systems because they feel "gamey". And to a point, it can lead to some nasty surprises - if opponent has stored bunch of Warfare XP, they can use them to force march (more movement, less stats), heal armies or even spawn units if they pick certain spirits. The game also has undo feature for most actions, which is nice QoL. I was little worried it'd ruin my game by me abusing it, but it was fine - mostly forgot it was there except when I mis-clicked and then I was really glad :D I'd rate this 8/10 - certainly worthy of playing, especially if you are tired of other 4X games. And if you get it in sale for 20$, it's a great value. EDIT: Bought the game with its DLCs after the free weekend ended - didn't want to stop playing.. Every age has some new interesting mechanics.. There is even age inspired by Bioshock with deep water cities :D

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

My favorite thing about this game is the way to build an army, it always felt like in CIV 5 or 6 if you are playing single player and a difficult mode you have no chance of getting certain monuments or or other objectives. The research in this game provides the feeling of getting closer to the end goal by giving rewards past passive bonuses. The only part I found difficult at first was the settler system having to integrate a city.
This game might have rivalled the Civ franchise. If it wasn't so unskillfully made.
I was on the fence for a while. Picked it up on the free weekend and 40 HOURS LATER I think it's safe to say I'm hooked. If you have yet to try this game, stop depriving yourself and get it. It's worth it.
Millennia has a lot of great ideas, but feels a little rough around the edges. I personally like things like the Age system and the National Spirit system, but the supply chain mechanic took a while to get used to (it isn't complex, just not really explained.) The combat is rough, too, which is exacerbated by how aggressive the AI is. I've really enjoyed the free weekend, and I keep coming back to Millennia and I'll probably buy it on discount, but there are minor things here and there that make you wish Millennia wasn't quite so micro-focused. The Age mechanic is a real highlight, whether that's taking the timeline down a darker path or reaching higher than humanity ever did. Great concepts, mixed execution, but worth a shot. edit: With about twenty hours in on it, I've finally managed to understand what's going on, and I'm really liking it. It feels like it has a really big learning curve, which is a bit annoying, but overall I think I prefer this to Civ 5 and 6.
Man I can't believe all of the good reviews for this game. I played for 14 hours and tried to get my money back because this thing is just boring as all get out. I am a giant Civilization fanatic, but this game doesn't even come close. I tried Humankind and didn't like it a lot, but thought that this one could scratch the Civ itch....it doesn't. If you want a game that will help put you to sleep at night then this is the game for you.
Uniq timelines are fun to explore and every game will not be the same.
I love that you can shape you civilization at each age according to how you want to play or face your current challenge, and that each age can have some variation with actual different technologies available!
