I've seen some people hate on JA3 because it changed a lot from JA2 but after the first hour or so I've really come to appreciate the changes and quality of life improvements. I think this is a great addition to the series and love the references and jokes hidden all over the place. I wonder how many people laughed at Courage the dog? Lots of stuff like that. Everywhere.
The game is really cool and fun to play. Humor is awesome. But from my perspective the game is too big and offers nothing new in the last 20 hours of playing. Also I was frustrated by a move in the middle of the game, when you are forced to capture all important locations that you have visited again. Though, it was really fun to play. I hope the next part will be better.
Just like JA2 but better!
I'm having a ball with this game. Old Jagged Alliance (1) player.
What a great game, great attention to detail, a lot of variety in characters, team composition and arsenal, a ton of content and replayability and what few QoL features it's missing can easily be remedied with simple mods straight from the workshop. The performance is pretty good as well, and if you're struggling, it does support upscaling. My only wish would be for more games to include REAL anti-aliasing (without ghosting, like MSAA). I am not the type to immediately do another play through, but I might just come back for more in the future. I just wish I had known that stumbling (literally, by accident) into one of the key characters had not triggered the game's ending, as I wanted to pursue some of the more important side-content, but 50 hours has tired me, there are too many games in my backlog so I feel I must move on.
I really like tactical RPGs, but this one has too many frustrating quirks. I tried it again recently with co-op, thinking that it would make it more fun, but my partner gave up on it pretty quickly. Healing is confusing and seems almost pointless in battles. The controls are confusing... sometimes it shoots an enemy when I click on them. Other times I have to click on the body part popup. Sometimes I'm clicking and nothing happens. The map view and A.I.M. seem kind of interesting, but I always felt like they just got in the way. I might try this again sometime with mods and easier difficulty, just to see if I can get over that initial hump.
The constant time crunch, compounded by the financial crunch, compounded by the fact that every time a merc gets injured it takes a huge chunk of that time to heal them, ultimately just makes it feel like this game is actively trying to be obnoxious. Your option is to be economically soft-locked or save scum, and that's pretty garbage design.
What a fantastic game once you power through the first few hours and restart the game. It's like ~RPG X-COM with strong stealth and also... economic aspect. It is a strange mix, but MAN! IT WORKS!
Could've been really good, but you can see from the start how bad the RNG is. Your guys with bolt rifles and high accuracy/proficiency in this same weapon seem to have a 1/3 chance to hit enemies whom from the distance you just missed will be able to sprint forward and have a 1/2 chance to hit you with a pistol.
Worthy sequel to JA2. I absolutely love this one.
