Ah, so this is what everybody's been trying to copy for 10 years. Apparently War of the Chosen is the full game, base game is the same campaign with less content. Plays great on Steam Deck.
in another effort to review every video game that has helped distract me from the crushing weight of my own mortality and the unavoidable horrors of the human condition: i'd give this game an 8.4/10 with the footnote: legendary ironman run got softlocked bc a ufo attacked me and i only had like 5 dudes alive. potentially could be in the top 10 games i've ever played, but instead my life sucks and i hate everything
This is still the best of it's kind. I think I still have some kind of PTSD from this game, you get attached to these stupid soldiers then watching them get mutoided to death is so painful. I think actually the most underrated feature of this game is the Bar/Memorial. I don't know who came up with that but they are a genius. I loved leaving heartfelt messages to my best soldiers who died. But also, if a soldier panicked and did something stupid, I really enjoyed insulting their memory with a critical epitaph. Anyway... one day... X Com 3 <3
i have tried many times to like this game as i played the older ones on hard and enjoyed it. But this style of rushing you all the time is not fun but just simply fustrating. no time to just enjoy the game. i have a life i use games to unwine not causing me to have a heart attack. remember before fan boys say anything i did like and played the other games on hard and it was fun. what a reversal of this franchise. even with mods it still does not make the game fun and on easy. The first game where even on easy is not giving you time to understand the game play so maybe you can replay on harder difficulties. really research this game before you buy it. I bought the game and all dlc.s and i will never play it.
Extremely fun engine but the never ending pop ups giving you information, missions, and timers are overwhelming and annoying.
Having played it with and without the War of the Chosen dlc, I can say that on its own, XCOM 2 is on equal terms with XCOM Enemy Unknown when talking about the size and depth of its contents. You have new enemies, somewhat different classes and most importantly new mechanics. Where XCOM 2 goes way beyond its predecessor is with the War of the Chosen dlc. After playing with it I felt the base game lacking depth, it felt like a very surface level strategy game. But with War of the Chosen, there isn't just more content added to the game, but the existing one is built upon and fleshed out. Of course XCOM 2 is still a fun game on its own, but if you do want to enjoy it to the fullest, check out the WOTC expansion.
One of the best games I have ever played. Bought it on sale for seven euros after seeing it in a video. Consumed my life for a week straight. I don't even like strategy games.
