Elon Musk saves humanity simulator where your idiot crew members skipped out on every OSHA training ever. It's good enough to recommend giving it a try when it goes on sale. For fans of city builders like Anno you'll probably enjoy it as a unique twist on a resource management city builder game. For fans of city survival games like Frostpunk you will enjoy the first few acts of the game but it will leave you wanting in the end. For the rest of this review please know that I am a loser Frostpunk fan-boy and I am definitely biased in that way with how it regards to what I think this game could have done better. So, what holds this game back? -The narrative starts of interesting with some very good voice acting and cinematics but it falls off at the end. It's like they had a really cool idea but didn't have the development time or budget to tie everything together for the finale. -The "accidents" system is the main source of strife for the player but it is almost entirely random and once you understand it managing it just kinda of feels like an annoying chore. You'll get a notification every few minutes about "An accident has occurred on the Tiqqun" and most of the time you won't even care to look at what is going on. It would have been much better if the occurrence of accidents was tied to player choices and/or more dynamic map conditions rather than just randomly every so often depending on the few mitigating factors the game has for you play with. -The game's hull and battery mechanics are underwhelming since they, for the most part, interact with you moving the Tiqqun to different planets or points of interest within a system but you rarely ever need to do this beyond when it is necessary for completing a mission objective. Again, more dynamic "space weather events", as the game calls them, would have made this much better. -The policies mechanic is useful but it's not very interesting. I think the idea was that the legislative options the game gives you are meant to be like double edged swords. However, where one police would hurt you there was another that would balance it out. It didn't seem like I was making much of a choice when I used the same four polices for each of the districts of my space ship. -Similar to how you have to continuously feed the generator coal in Frostpunk, the hole in the post apocalyptic life raft for this game is maintaining the constantly degrading hull of the Tiqqun. That said there is no depth to this at all. There are no options given to the player on how to deal with this threat, unlike in Frostpunk where you manage heat levels and use the generator's overdrive to offset coal usage etc... In Ixion you just have to keep feeding the Tiqqun steal or else you lose. It would have been interesting if there was a mechanic designed around keeping the Tiqqun pressurized and managing the ship's atmosphere in order to mitigate the potential effects of oxygen deprivation on the crew but there is no such mechanic in this game. It's a cool game. You should definitely try it. Just wait for it to go on sale first that way you can get the most out of you money and buy more Doordash or something.

Amazing atmosphere, absolutely elite music, constant stress. No real sandbox though, so you play its way
