I think this is one of the greatest games ever made. The story is a complete disaster. Even after you played the whole game, done all the DLCs, watched all the OVAs and the Movie, I still feel I didn't understand the whole plot. But the world they created, the gameplay, the battle system, the level of immersion, the music, the visuals. When the story kicks in it's such a visual and audio masterpiece. The continuous way I kept wanting to explore every part of the world they created. The whole world felt like it head heart and a soul to it, a labour of passion. I've never seen in a game the level of immersion you have with the 4 buddies. Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Iggy felt like they were real characters. For me this was a 5 year journey that it took me to finish this game, because I never wanted to see it done. Today I have finished it and happy to call it one of the purest form of a video game.
Ignore the low playtime on steam. I have over 1k hours on both the xbox one and ps4 version combined. This is probably one of my top 50 games of all time. Definitely not a good mainline final fantasy game considering it throws away many of the jrpg elements that were already established on prior games, but this is such an amazing game on its own, specially with the Royale edition content. Honestly it should've stayed branded as a spin off game instead of a mainline game. It's obviously not perfect and there's a lot of the dna from the troubled development and very noticeable in the pacing and with some of the fetch questish mission but the overall open world and dungeons are beyond peak. Gameplay wise is bit similar to the ff7 remakes and crisis core with some kingdom hearts too. It's fast paced but not a mindless button smashing combat as you gotta time your dodge and parries, specially on harder boss fights and hunts. Something i personally despise and kinda ruins the pacing for me is how the game sometimes forces the ai to drive the car for you during core storyline events and you have to sit down and watch the game play itself for minutes while you hear some dialogue. Horrible design desission. As i mention, the side quest can be very repetitive and fetch questish but the exploration itself and the combat are really fun and engaging so you're not really gonna hate it. The story is honestly up to debate but i think it was solid, and the Royale edition fills some of the gaps that were present on the original release. On it's current state, it's overall solid 8/10 for me

Played a few hours and could not really get into it. It felt like a road trip of chores rather than an story with momentum. I was mostly driving around and doing small tasks without ever feeling properly pulled into the story. Big early events happen, but I did not feel invested because I did not know the characters or world well enough yet. The main cast also did not stand out enough for me to care about their journey.
