When i start a game, i finish the game. Except for this piece of trash. the most tedious, boring, annoying game i think i have ever played. i can understand why somebody could enjoy it (its kind of immersive, and is very hardcore) but like, it isn't fun having to drive for 10 minutes but every 2 minutes you HAVE to exit your vehicle, kill like 2 dudes, then repair your car, and drive for another two minutes. This "game's" gameplay loop is quite literally, drive, kill like 3 dudes, repair car, drive, kill like 3 dudes, repair car, drive, kill like 4 dudes this time, repair car, oh wow you've made it to the map marker where you now get to kill 10 dudes and destroy a random object. Now do that about 20 times, and that is LITERALLY 90% of the game. I have 13 hours, and I swear to my mother that I spent 80-90% of my gametime just driving around and repairing my car. You want to switch out your guns? Drive over to the weapon store (and get into like, 3-4 actually pointless gunfights on the way). Same thing with wanting to do convoy missions. Same thing with assassination missions (which are just normal missions but you kill a basic guy in a suit). Enemies are bullet sponges, the guns kinda feel like ♥♥♥♥ to use (outside of the snipers). Like the shotguns are 2-3 hits at close range. That's not right. And oh my god the saving system. What made me finally quit this game is this broken ass system that makes no sense. There are save points literally all over the game. Everywhere is a save point, you are never more than like, 5 minutes away from a savepoint (assuming no boring ass 2 person gun fights that completely make you stop your car and get out to repair. I cannot stress this enough, if there is a person shooting your vehicle, 70% if the time you will have to stop your car and repair. And 2 people make it near 100%. So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tedious). This makes you think, why even have the savepoint system. It only serves to force people to break immersion and enter the save menu. Like just have autosaves. I don't understand the point of the forced save points, because they are so insanely plentiful that they only serve to punish the player. You never think "oh thank god I found a save point" (for example, for all of its flaws, Fallout 4 survival mode makes you feel this way whenever you find a bed. You want to search out beds to get a save, they actually feel like something when you find one), you just think "should i waste the next 20 seconds to save or just move on". But I quit this game because I cleared an entire map portion (found all diamond cases, which I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate that collectible, but I understand what the developers were aiming for), and then fell what couldn't have been more than 10 feet, and instantly died (because the buddy revival system is also dumb as ♥♥♥♥). I cannot name a mechanic that actually makes me enjoy this game. The main missions are boring as ♥♥♥♥ and all practically the same thing. All the characters (outside of the Jackal) are lifeless, boring, and have no character/charisma, or any recognizable feature. During every single missions brief (every one) it is mentioned that "oh this is a secret mission, so both sides will be hostile". Ok, cool, thats fine. DO YOU HAVE TO SAY THAT EVERY SINGLE TIME???? This entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game there are no friendlies outside of mission givers. If you see a person outside of a seizefire zone, they will be hostile. Period. Ok actually thought of one cool part, the ui is super cool. Like theres basically nothing on the screen most of the time which is sick. EXCEPOT FOR THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GRENADE COUNT! Like why in god's name is that ALWAYS on the screen??? Everything else is absent. except for this stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing in the bottom right. Like, make that fade away too, what in god's name were the developers thinking??? Theres also so many ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mountains/rocks in the way of everything, traversing the map (outside of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ass constant attacks) is just a pain. Oh yeah, and outposts respawn. Which would be ok, if again, there weren't 50 some odd of them, and they are all on the most important road junctions on the map. Like why did the devs make this game so frustrating. Gun jamming, ok cool mechanic. Let me like, clean out the gun at safehouses. Oh what, you want me to go to the edges of the map to a gun store to switch out the loadout? Ok i guess so. You have malaria and need to get drugs to deal with it. Neat, very on theme with the game. Oh, it doesn't have any impact outside of completely halting your exploration and making you drive to a random spot to kill 3-4 people and get new drugs, in what only takes like 10 mins (if you're lucky and encounter few enemies on the road). Ok i guess so. You need to do side objectives with your buddies during main missions to get... more gameplay??? There is no reason to do the side objectives, unless you want to. And its not like they're cool objectives or anything, practically every one it go to a location and kill/interogate/grab an item. Jesus ♥♥♥♥ this game is ass. Worse than Far Cry 1, and I didn't know how that was possible. It's so blatantly anti-fun. If you want to play a good, immersive, survival-based game, Metro Exodus is right there. Better in every conceivable way. TLDR; This game is far, far too tedious/not-fun and joins the incredibly short list of games I have not finished and quit playing
Likely the most underrated Farcry game, provided you have the patience for the malaria and gun jams. However that's sort of the point of the game, it's trying to convey things like futility and the lack of control that people really have in the world. It largely tells its story through gameplay, which is something that later Farcry games do through some very hamfisted narratives. Farcry 2's story is more subtle than Farcry 3's, but it's one you experience more directly. The Jackal is probably the best villain in the Farcry series as well. From the very start, he's playing you and everyone else and he's able to make these plays due to the nature of control his arms dealing brings him. It makes for a good twist at the end of the game. The Jackal is made reference to in future Farcry games for a reason after all. tl;dr Farcry 2 is a great Africa-simulator. The checkpoints at every fork-in-the-road is also more realistic to the not!Congo that the game takes place in than you might think as well.
very good game, arguably the best farcry even with malaria
Ubisoft sells this for 10 € but it's no more supported by modern PCs and they don't even patch it. Todo list to manage to use it on modern PC: – Alt+Enter to go full screen – Apply your video settings but you'll need to limit FPS to 60 and turn on V-sync (otherwise you'll have shaking/boucing NPCs) – To stop game crashing after 15-60 min of game, you'll need to apply the 4GB patch from NTCore (https://ntcore.com/4gb-patch/) on the FarCry2.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Far Cry 2\bin\FarCry2.exe) Now you should be able to play it. Thanks community. Shame on you Ubisoft.
I read in the reviews for Far Cry 2 that some people get stuck because the game is bugged. The same thing happened to me. Try starting a new game again. First, save your game at the blue save box. Then go to the medicine cabinet and take the medicine. After that, go to the table with the guns and pick up the pistol first. The menu should appear then. Oh, and one more thing: do it with your keyboard instead of your controller. You can leave the controller connected, but use the keyboard for that part. After that, you can go back to using the controller. That’s exactly what happened to me. I had the same problem, but following that order fixed it.
10/10 Oh HELL yeah. This game is savage. Brutal. Unforgiving. And somehow I love it. I usually don't enjoy games that are this realistic and difficult, but something about this one just worked. I'm glad they toned it down for the later games in the series, but knowing that I was able to get through this game makes even the hardest cult outpost in 5 look like a child's toy. Your guns break, you can misfire, you have Malaria. There were so many moments I accidently set fire to entire swathes of grass that I didn't even have to take a shot to take out everyone. It is a game that forces the player to actually stop and think tactically about how they approach a situation. Should I just rush in? Use the environment? The story wasn't stellar, just a civil war in random African country, but the ending was fascinating and gave us a good glimpse of that nihilism that the later games have when it comes to choices. If they ever remastered this game I would throw my money so fast.
Dienamite or Diemonds?
Still my favorite Far Cry game!

Amazing game for it's time, be sure to play Toto by Africa whilst driving through the mercenary filled tundra
