Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition

Good thing BioWare only made 3 Dragon Age games, and there was never a fourth instance! Anyway, I don't think there is a point reviewing the gameplay and mechanics of a game from 2010, but I can tell you, it's still worth it these days. A very solid RPG with memorable characters and plot. First one in the trilogy, since there was never a fourth game, sadly. What I will review is how to revisit this old gem in the modern era of gaming. First of, you need to be aware that playing this on a modern computer is a pain. Apparently, any GPU that was released after 2014 has issues, because BioWare probably thought that no new GPUs will ever be released after 2011, and never bothered to patch DA: Origins, despite releasing DA 2 and Inquisition later on. No fourth game, sadly. Never happened. Said issue causes certain points in the game to crash unless you set your settings to minimum, pass that part, and set them back to what you had again. Other than that, you may encounter stuttering or minor graphical glitches here and here. Overall, playing this game as vanilla is not recommended. I suggest taking your time and looking for recent fixes and quality of life mods. Mind you, they may not fix the GPU crash issue. I still had it happening at least in one location in the game even with the fixes enabled, so be aware, this game is old and runs mostly on community support. Regarding that, said community support is amazing, and the game still gets up-to-date fixes and modernization plugins. If you are a fan of playing the game as close to the vanilla experience as possible, like me, I suggest getting at least a few global fixing mods to ensure a clean and stable experience. I would be careful with mods that improve graphics, as they can crash the game and corrupt your saves. Read the instructions of anything you download. So, to finish the review, yes, the game is very playable these days with the right fixes and improvements. Don't be lazy, take some time to browse through different compatible fixes, and you should have a smooth and pleasant gaming experience.

amazing game, i love the different character origins. the companions are some of my favorites in any media, and the game is funny, emotional, and makes your decisions feel meaningful. the combat is kinda mid and tedious but i still think it's worth the slog.

For the sake of your own sanity , play the game on the lowest quality and maybe lower difficulty , unless you want the game to crash every 5 mins and to lose progress constantly , for a game in the current age it was fine , overall I loved every recruitable character , the banter is the strong part in the game , as for side quests , most of them just give gold as reward and feel average at best , there are some cool quests though and some cool puzzles , main quest feels a bit dragged , overall high 7/10 if you dont mind installing bunch of patches and mods to fix the game to be "playable" then if you do not want to do that i'd probably not reccomend this game. Nevertheless , if you enjoy cool unique characters and a lot of funny dialog and overall good RPG , game is fine.

Is one of the greatest RPGs ever made. The rich story, memorable characters, and meaningful choices make every playthrough feel unique. It’s a game that truly rewards exploration and keeps you invested from beginning to end.

Well so far the game has been decent, and I can see that its a deep roleplaying game, the lack of controller support is horrid. Genuinely frustrating to try and find work arounds since the steam controller settings setup constantly glitches. I can't understand how the devs can release this game on PC and not simply include controller support, its baffling, thank god I bought this on sale or I would have been pissed off and refunded.
